Metal Injection Molding Analysis of WGV Head in a Turbo Charger of Gasoline Automobile (가솔린 자동차 터보차져용 WGV Head의 금속 분말 사출성형 해석)

  • The waste gate valve (WGV) for gasoline vehicles operate in a harsh high-temperature environment. Hence, WGVs are typically made of Inconel 713C, which is a type of Ni-based superalloy. Recently, the metal injection molding (MIM) process has attracted considerable attention for parts used under high-temperature conditions. In this study, an MIM analysis for the head and other parts of the WGV is conducted using a commercial CAE program Moldflow. Further, optimal manufacturing conditions are determined by analyzing flow characteristics at various injection times and locations. Moreover, to improve the accuracy of the analysis results, we compare the actual temperature of the mold during injection processing with that observed through the analysis. As the results, metal injection patterns of analysis are well in accord with these of short shot test. And the temperature variations of analysis is also very similar with those of feedstock when metal injection molding.

  • Studies on the turbocharger itself or various aspects generated from turbocharged engine have been made on the performance for the natural aspirated engine equipped with the turbocharger and the intercooler. In this study, the performance prediction program based on turbocharger theory is developed for simulation which may reduced the cost and the trial -and-error time. The program is verified with the experimental results for 11, 000 cc diesel engine with the turbocharger and the intercooler . Also, various factors which are invisible in experiment are predicted using this program.

A Study on the Exhaust Gas After Treatment for Small Ship (소형선박용 배기가스 후처리장치에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, to cope with the exhaust being reviewed to establish legal regulations for domestic small vessels, a basic experiment on an exhaust emissions post-treatment system was conducted to construct the design data required for securing a localized technology. The data was secured based on the arithmetic mean calculated through setting the engine load to 25%, 50%, and 75% and conducting five. A 2800-cc turbo charger diesel-type engine was used in the experiment, and an engine dynamometer was used in the conducted tests. As a result, NOx was reduced by approximately 20% and PM was reduced by approximately 97%. Although the results indicated no significant changes to CO in test mode-1, it was greatly reduced as it transitioned into the next phase.

  • This study shows the correlation between $NO_x$ emission in the exhaust gas and various operation factors of dual fuel engine for Co-generation system. General tendency was shown that the thermal efficiency was lowered by the change of operation factors. However these were not confirmed on this experiment. Increasing T4 temperature (exhaust gas temperature at turbo-charger inlet) reduces $NO_x$ emission rate. The higher T4 temperature requires lower excess air as the excess air ratio is controlled by T4 temperature on gas mode operation. Another tendency was that $NO_x$ emission rate is reduced in case of increasing boost air temperature, quantity of pilot oil or bypassing flue gas through the exhaust gas boiler. The diameter of the fuel injection nozzle was changed smaller than design value and the injection timing was readjusted. Thus $NO_x$ emission rate could be reduced as retarding injection timing and changing hole diameter of fuel injection nozzle, however maxium engine out-put was decreased by changing fuel nozzle on the diesel mode operation.

  • New design of catalytic converter is proposed by optimization of DFSS (Design For Six Sigma) and DOE (Design Of Experiment) method which is based on taguchi matrix. As a result of the optimization of design of catalytic converter, this paper classifies Exhaust-downpipe shapes with 3 parameters to increase flow velocity uniformity of front catalytic substrate face from CFD results. after finishing with L9 Taguchi test matrix, it can be found the main effect of each design parameter of concept model, and optimal design level. in conclusion, it can be increase flow uniformity from 0.60 upto 0.80 with optimal diffuser shape for Turbo-charger.

  • Mixing of ceramic-binder system was investigated experimentally and theoretically for application to Ceramic Injection Molding. Polypropylene, stearic acid, and paraffin wax were selected as the binder system, and silicon nitride fine powders were selected as the ceramic material. Single screw ectruder was employed as the mixing equipment. Theoretical analysis was performed to investigate the mixedness of mixture quantitatively. The analysis predicted average residence time average total strain, and average shear stress as a function of screw speed for mixtures of different volume fraction. Qualitative mixedness of mixture and characteristics of mixing were investigated by using SEM and EPMA. In addition, rheological properties of the mixture were investigated by using a capillary rheometer to examine possibility of injection molding.

  • (Brazing)에 의한 금속의 접합기술은 이미 BC 3000년경 고대 바빌로니아(Babylonia)에서 귀금 속의 장식품을 만드는데 에 이용되어져 왔다. 근대에 와서는 1950년 후반 N.Redns등의 탄소강의 Ag브레이징을 개발한 이후부터 브레이징에 관한 연구가 활발하게 되었다. 즉, 삽입금속 및 플 락스의 개발, 삽입금속과 모재의 젖음성, 브레이징의 강열법과 분위기 조절, 접합이음부의 설계 등에 대해서 계통적인 연구가 시도되었다. 그 결과, 최근에 이르러서는 스테인레스 파이프의 금브레이징에 의한 로켓트부스타(Rocket Booster)의 제작, LSI의 프린터배선, 파인 세라믹스와 금속을 브레이징하여 소형 자동차의 Turbo Charger Rotar의 제작등에 이용되고 있고, 첨단기 술에 없어서는 안될 중요한 접합기술로 주목을 받고 있다. 선진국에서는 많은 연구 개발의 성 과로 고부가가치 제품의 생산에 활용되고 있지만, 현재 국내에서는 1950년대의 기술수준에 있고, 연구 개발에 대한 업계 및 학계의 관심의 부족하기 때문에 기술축적은 전혀 되어 있지 않다. 특히, Brazing에 관련된 자료나 기초지식을 습득하기 위한 교재도 출판된 것이 없고, 번역된 전문 서적도 구하기가 힘들기 때문에 브레이징 기술에 대한 인식도 낮고, 적재적소에 활용도 되지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이와 같은 배경 하에서 저자들은 브레이징에 대해서 관심을 가지는 회원 들에게 조금이나마 도움을 주고자 외국에서 출판된 서적 및 논문 등을 참고로 하여 정리하여 브레이징의 기초와 실제라는 제목으로 4회에 걸쳐서 게재하고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of water injection on combustion characteristics of gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine with turbo-charger under low-load operating condition. The test engine used in this study has four-cylinder and 10.2 of compression ratio. In order to study the effect of water injection ratio on combustion characteristics, the water was injected into the intake port from 10% to 50%, based on fuel injection quantity. From the experiment, it revealed that the water injection induced the improvement of fuel economy because of the advance of spark-timing by the reduction of in-cylinder temperature. In addition, the water injection caused the prolong of extension of the ignition delay and slight increase of burn duration.

  • Aluminium titanate (Al$_2$TiO$_{5}$) as structural ceramics is known as a low thermal exansion, a low thermal conductivity, a low Young's modulus, and excellent thermal shock resistant material. These properities allow for the testing as an insulating material in engines for portliner, piston bottom an turbo charger. However, those composites has low mechanical strength due to the presence of microcracks developed by the large difference in thermal expansion coefficients along crystallographic directions exceed the internal strength of material and its tendency to decompose into $Al_2$O$_3$ and TiO$_2$ at temperature below 130$0^{\circ}C$ limit however the application of aluminium titanate.e.

  • Ageing behavior of the Al-Mg-Si alloy was modeled for the use of optimization of Al forging product. Typical precipitates of Al-Mg-Si alloy are a wide variety of metastable phases (e.g. GP zones, $\beta',\beta'$). These rod shaped particles take a role to hinder the dislocation movement. The precipitation sequence in Al-Mg-Si alloys is quite complex and the strength of precipitate particles differs with the ageing condition. In the present study, the ageing behavior of Al-Mg-Si alloy was investigated by using an industrial grade Al 6061 alloy forged product, which was a perform for an Al impeller for turbo charger. The precipitate hardening models by Esmaeili's approach were used for the analysis of ageing behavior.
