  • 75톤급 터보펌프용 속도복식 터빈을 개발하였다. 축과 로터의 연결에는 커빅커플링을 적용하였다. 커빅커플링은 시편을 통한 고온비틀림 시험과 시제품의 스핀시험을 통해 적용 적합성을 검증하였다. 고압 공기를 이용한 성능시험을 통해 개량형 속도복식 터빈의 비출력은 기본형 단단 터빈에 비해 설계점에서 20.5%가량 향상된 것으로 나타났다.

  • The leakage characteristic is an important factor in power plant. However, most of power plant have efficiency problem which is occurred leaking between high pressure steam turbine axle and stator. The labyrinth seal which is used between the main turbine axle and stator in the power plant. Because it is able to be non-contact seal and it is minimize clearance to decrease the leakage. But its actual system is too huge to experiment. Therefore, most steam turbine seal performance tests were conducted by air similarity test. This paper described a test facility and program for air similarity test of high pressure steam turbine seal. A test facility has been designed and built to evaluate leakage verification of labyrinth seal. The test facility consist of air compressor, anti-swirl labyrinth seal for 1/3 air similarity model, pressure transducer, air flow measure system, instrumentation and auxiliary system. For evaluation of steam turbine seal performance, the air similarity test of labyrinth seal leakage verification was conducted and we compared experiment data and analysis result.

  • This study aims at evaluation of component performance of a commercial micro gas turbine by detailed measurements of various system parameters. A test facility to measure performance of a micro gas turbine was set up. Performance parameters such as turbine exit temperature, exhaust gas temperature, engine inlet temperature, compressor discharge pressure and fuel flow rate were measured. Variations in measured data and estimated performance parameters were analyzed. In addition to overall engine performance, component characteristic parameters including the turbine inlet temperature, the compressor efficiency, the turbine efficiency, the recuperator effectiveness were estimated. Behaviors of the estimated characteristic parameters with operating condition change were examined.

  • A numerical simulation was performed to investigate the internal flow characteristics in gas turbine nozzle by the variation of flow area of the nozzle. In general the area of turbine nozzle is chosen by the most substantial factor on performance improvement of turbine at the first stage. In the performances test through CFD analysis for three types of nozzle with conventional, enlarged and reduced area, reduced one with effective flow area (EFA) was the most efficient. That is the minimum effective value within EFA limit defined by the manual of technical order had a good performance. It is useful to avoid the low power problem in the test of performance after maintenance and overhaul of turbine engine.

  • In the present paper, the scale effects of two-dimensional airfoil and three-dimensional wind turbine were investigated by using FLUENT software. For two dimensional analysis, flow around S809 airfoil with various Reynolds No. and Mach No. conditions were simulated. For three dimensional analysis, scaled NREL Phase VI wind turbine models from 6% to 1,600% were simulated under the same tip speed ratio condition. Finally, aerodynamic comparisons between two-dimensional flow and three dimensional wind turbine flow are made for the feasibility study of scale effect corrections. Currently, KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) is preparing for the wind tunnel test of 12% NREL Phase VI wind turbine and the performance analysis of the scaled NREL wind turbine model will be validated by the wind tunnel test.

가스터빈 엔진용 공기터빈 시동기 성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Research on the Performance of Air Turbine Starter for Gas Turbine Engines)

  • Gas turbines for an aircraft have the start and restart capabilities within their flight envelop. It is an important item for engine qualification and substantiated with the test. Experimental investigations were carried out to find the relation between the corrected torque and the corrected rotating speed of an air turbine starter in this study. A dedicated air supply system for the air turbine starter and a special device to measure the torque and the rotating speed of the air turbine starter were developed and installed at the altitude engine test facility in Korea Aerospace Research Institute. Experimental results show that the relations between the corrected torque and the corrected rotating speed of the air turbine starter are linear and the inlet temperature and pressure conditions for the air turbine starter were found out to provide minimum required torque for the engine qualification test at various altitude. The start and restart tests for the currently developing engine were successfully performed using this experimental results.

  • Test experience with a micro-turbine jet engine is introduced. The engine provides us with valuable opportunities to experience know-hows essential for engine development. It consists of a single radial compressor and a single stage turbine. Engine starting procedure has been established after many trials and errors. Static and dynamic engine performance tests were conducted. Static performance was found to be inferior to that advertised by the manufacturer. Further improvement is needed. Dynamic performance revealed that engine thrust overshoots unfavorably for the purpose of UAV control.

  • 750kW gearless type wind turbine, named U50, is developed by UNISON in Korea. The newly developed wind turbine should be evaluated the power curve and the estimated annual energy production by following international standard to verify the power performance characteristics. This paper shows the test and evaluation procedure according to IEC 61400-12-1 which specifies a procedure of measuring the power performance characteristics of a single wind turbine and applies to the testing of wind turbines of all types and sized connected to the electrical power network. And this paper also shows the power performance characteristics for U50 wind turbine which is determined in accordance with IEC regulation.

  • We need to develop a on-line thermal performance analysis system for nuclear power plant to determine performance status and heat rate of turbine cycle. We have developed PERUPS(PERformance Upgrade System) to aid the effective performance analysis of turbine cycle. Procedures of performance calculation are improved using several adaptations from standard calculation algorithms based on PTC(Performance Test Code). Robustness in the on-line performance analysis is increased by verification & validation scheme for measured input data. The system also provides useful web interfaces for performance analysis such as graphic heat balance of turbine cycle and components, turbine expansion lines, automatic generation of analysis report. The system was successfully applied for YongGwang nuclear plant unit #3,4.

  • This paper deals with performance characteristics and efficiencies of Pelton turbine can be applied as one of ERDs (Energy Recovery Devices) of PRO (Pressure Retarded Osmosis) system for desalination. The objective of this study is experimentally estimating the performance of micro-scale Pelton turbine for PRO pilot plant. Especially the performance characteristics with variations of jet nozzle diameter of Pelton turbine are discussed in detail. In order to do this, lab scale test rig of Pelton turbine was made for performance test, which includes water tank, Pelton wheel with buckets, jet nozzle and torque brake and so on. The parameter effects related on Pelton turbine's efficiency were investigated and discussed on the influence of the variations of load and speed ratio.
