The steam turbine efficiency is an important factor in power plant. Accurate evaluation of steam turbine performance is essential. However, it is not easy to evaluate the steam turbine performance due to its high temperature and high pressure circumstance. Therefore most steam turbine performance tests were conducted by air similarity test. This paper described a test program for air similarity test of steam turbine at Korea Aerospace Research Institute. A test facility has been designed and built to evaluate aerodynamic performance of turbines. The test facility consists of air supply system, single stage test section, power absorption system, instrumentation and auxiliary system. For evaluation of steam turbine performance, the test of single stage axial turbine air similarity performance was conducted and uncertainty analysis was performed.
The objective of this paper is to suggest a new method of a wind turbine performance test. The performance test of a wind turbine is generally carried out in a wind tunnel. The test needs not only a high-accuracy measuring system but also durable structure to withstand high speed turbine rotation and wind flow. Therefore, we tried turbine performance test using a towing tank to improve stability and reliability. Because a turbine rotates more slowly and generates more torque in the water than in the wind tunnel under similarity conditions. In this study, we developed turbine performance test systems and verified the turbine test method using a towing tank through comparing results of the wind tunnel and the towing tank test.
The turbine efficiency is an important factor in power plant, and accurate evaluation of steam turbine performance is the key issue in turbo machinery industry. The difficulty of evaluating the steam turbine performance due to its high steam temperature and pressure environment makes the most steam turbine tests to be replaced by air similarity test. This paper presents how to decide the similarity conditions of the steam turbine test and describes its limitations and assumptions. The test facility was developed and arranged to conduct an air similarity turbine performance test with various inlet pressure, temperature and mass flow rate. The eddy-current type dynamometer measures the turbine-generated shaft power and controls the rotating speed. Pressure ratio of turbine can be controled by back pressure control valve. To verify its test results, uncertainty analysis was performed and relative uncertainty of turbine efficiency was obtained.

The main goal of the present study is to establish the techniques and methodolgies of turbine performance test through evaluating the objective turbine test piece, and checking the reliability of the self-developed test facility by performing a series of turbine tests under ambient temperature condition. A high speed coupling, a lubrication system and a test bed of the test facility were modified through a series of preliminary test in order to reduce the vibration and oil leakage. The flowrate control of the test facility and data acquisition were accomplished by using a software called "Labview" The measurement of shaft horse power and control of rotational speed according to the conditions of turbine rotation were performed by a separate system. The preliminary evaluation of the measured data suggests that the developed test facility and the test technique can be used reliably for the performance test of turbines with the minor improvement.provement.

Hydrodynamic performance test of a turbopump for a liquid rocket engine is carried out. The turbopump is composed of an oxidizer pump, a fuel pump and a turbine, and the two pumps are driven by the turbine. In the test, water is used for the pumps as working media and air is used for the turbine. Performance parameters of pumps and a turbine are drawn, and a power balance between the pumps and the turbine are calculated. The calculation shows a good power balance, which implies that the pump component tests, the turbine component test and the assembly test are reliably performed. At the starting period of the test, pressure rise-flow rate curve of a pump gradually approaches the ideal curve which could be obtained by very slow starting.
Recently, small hydropower attracts attention because of its renewable, clean and abundant energy resources to develop. Therefore, a tubular type hydro turbine is proposed for small hydropower in this study because the turbine has relatively simple structure and high possibility of applying to small hydropower. The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance characteristics of the turbine by field test. Field test iss conducted using one tubular turbine system as well as serial arrangement system by two tubular turbines taking into consideration of actual operation conditions. The results show that efficiency of test turbine changes considerably by the runner vane angle. Best efficiency of one turbine arrangement is higher than that of two turbine serial arrangement.

Performance test was conducted by micro gas turbine engine. A small test rig was established for the performance measurement of the micro gas turbine engine. The performance was conducted by the Olympus HP engine. Engine inlet mass flow rate, static thrust, fuel consumption rate, air and gas temperature at the inlet of major components were measured. In the test results, we could well understand about the micro gas turbine engine performance characteristics.

Performance analysis and test of a 50kW micro gas turbine is carried out. The present study was initiated in 1996 by KIMM researchers to develope a 50kW class turbogenerator gas turbine engine for hybrid vehicle propulsion system. but with its low emission and compactness, it seemed that it can also be applied as a source of distributed power generation. In this study, general description of the KIMM's efforts to acquire performance test skills of the self-made 50kW micro gas turbine engine. At present, non-load performance test up to 615000 rpm was accomplished and is expected to make through 80,000 rpm by the end of year. Several revisions in design and manufacture were made during the course of experiments. The resulting outputs is thought to be valuable for the further refinement of the system for eventual commercialization of the product.
To improve the core technology of the micro gas turbine, the performance test facility was developed. This paper is focusing on the explanation of the characteristics of micro gas turbine and its assist devices. Major part of micro gas turbine were radial type of compressor, annular type of combustor, radial type of turbine, thrust foil bearing, radial foil bearing and generator. The assist devices were consist of exhaust duct, inverter, data acquisition system, load bank and test cell. Before building up the test facility, the component test was previously conducted to confirm the component performance. After the test facility was prepared, the motoring test was conducted to investigate the rotor dynamic characteristics of the micro gas turbine. Also, the part load performance test was performed. With a developed micro gas turbine test facility, the improved core technology about the micro gas turbine can be suggested to the related industries.

This paper describes the results of steam turbine performance tests. The objectives of performance test is to exactly evaluate the degradation(decrease in performance) of the coal-fired steam turbine generator in order to provide plant information to help performance engineers identify problems, improve performance, and make economic decisions about scheduling maintenance and optimizing operation. To achieve these goals, the periodic thermal performance tests have been carried out since the initial operation period, 1997. We made the calculation program and guidelines for the tests and developed the performance index of the turbine cycle on the basis of the ASME PTC. By comparing the performance changes throughout the whole operation period, we confirmed the performance reliabilities of the turbine and its conditions.
