CO concentration distribution in a tunnel model closed at left end side using CFD

  • A primary air pollutant as an indicator of air quality released from incomplete combustion is Carbon monoxide. A study of the distributions of CO concentration with no heat source in a tunnel model closed at left end side is simulated with a commercial CFD code. The tunnel model is used to investigate the CO concentration distributions at three Reynolds numbers of 990, 1970, and 3290. which are computed by the inlet velocities of 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 m/s. The CFD predictive approaches can be useful for a better design to analyze the distributions of CO concentrations. In the case of the tunnel model closed at left end side alone, the concentration changes of x/H=-5 and -2.5 have the similar laminar characteristics like the case of the tunnel model closed at both end sides expecially at low values of Reynolds number. Irregular average CO concentration variations at Re=1790 are considered that the transition from laminar to turbulent flow occurs even in three different tunnel models.

  • 본 논문에서는 수평보강재로 보강된 터널 막장의 거동에 대한 매개변수 연구를 다루었다. 매개변수 연구에서는 축소모형실험을 수행하였으며 실험 결과를 이용하여 보강막장의 거동을 고찰하였다. 실험결과 터널 막장은 수평보강재로 보강함에 따라 변형이 억제되어 안정성이 증대되는 경향을 보였으며, 이러한 결과는 3차원 유한요소해석 결과와 정성적인 면에서 좋은 일치를 보였다. 따라서 막장 수평보강 공법은 막장의 안정성을 향상시키는 매우 유용한 공법으로 적용될 수 있을 것으로 판단되며, 일반적인 설계법을 개발하기 위해서 3차원 유한요소해석 모델링이 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • 토사지반에서 얕은 터널을 굴착하는 경우, 터널 막장부의 파괴 메카니즘이 터널 안정성에 큰 영향을 미친다. 본 논문에서는 일련의 굴진장을 고려한 2차원 종 방향 터널 모형 실험을수행하였다. 그 결과 얕은 터널의 파괴 메카니즘은 굴진장이 길어질수록 파괴모드 1에서 파괴모드 2로 변하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 모형실험결과와 수치해석을 비교하여 터널에 작용하는 최소 지보압과 진행성 파괴 거동에 대하여 분석하였다.

Numerical modelling of internal blast loading on a rock tunnel

  • Tunnels have been an integral part of human civilization. Due to complexity in its design and structure, the stability of underground structures under extreme loading conditions has utmost importance. Increased terrorism and geo-political conflicts have forced the engineers and researchers to study the response of underground structures, especially tunnels under blast loading. The present study has been carried out to seek the response of tunnel structures under blast load using the finite element technique. The tunnel has been considered in quartzite rock of northern India. The Mohr-Coulomb constitutive model has been adopted for the elastoplastic behaviour of rock. The rock model surrounding the tunnel has dimensions of 30 m x 30 m x 35 m. Both unlined and lined (concrete) tunnel has been studied. Concrete Damage Plasticity model has been considered for the concrete lining. Four different parameters (i.e., tunnel diameter, liners thickness, overburden depth and mass of explosive) have been varied to observe the behaviour under different condition. To carry out blast analysis, Coupled-Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) modelling has been adopted for modelling of TNT (Trinitrotoluene) and enclosed air. JWL (Jones-Wilkins-Lee) model has been considered for TNT explosive modelling. The paper concludes that deformations in lined tunnels follow a logarithmic pattern while in unlined tunnels an exponential pattern has been observed. The stability of the tunnel has increased with an increase in overburden depth in both lined and unlined tunnels. Furthermore, the tunnel lining thickness also has a significant effect on the stability of the tunnel, but in smaller diameter tunnel, the increase in tunnel lining thickness has not much significance. The deformations in the rock tunnel have been decreased with an increase in the diameter of the tunnel.

원심모형시험에 의한 복개터널 복공의 변위특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Displacement Characteristics of Cut-and Cover Tunnel Lining by Centrifuge Model Experiment)

  • This thesis is results of experimental works on the behavior of the cut-and-cover tunnel. Centrifuge model tests were performed to simulate the behavior of the cut-and-cover tunnels having cross sections of national road and subway tunnels. Model experiments were carried out with changing the cut slope and the slope of filling ground surface. Displacements of tunnel lining resulted from artificially accelerated gravitational force up to 40g of covered material used in model tests, were measured during centrifuge model tests. In model tests, Jumunjin Standard Sand with the relative density of 80 % and the zinc plates were used for the covered material and the flexible tunnel lining, respectively. Basic soil property tests were performed to obtain it's the property of Jumumjin Standard Sand Shear strength parameters of Jumunjin Standard Sand were obtained by performing the triaxial compression tests. Direct shear tests were also carried out to find the mechanical properties of the interface between the lining and the covered material. Compared results model tests estimation with respect to displacements of the lining.

  • Lots of roadway tunnel have been almost constructed in forms of closely-spaced tunnel in korea. If closely-spaced tunnel is not constructed at a sufficient distance between tunnels, the problem of stability can occur. However, the case that can not secure a sufficient distance between tunnels can occur due to a difficulty in buying a lot and an issue of popular complaint and environmental disruption. Generally, tunnels are not influenced by each other when a center distance between tunnels is two times longer than tunnel diameter under the complete elastic ground and five times under the soft ground. In this study, the scaled model tests of closely-spaced tunnel by using homogeneous material were performed and induced displacements were measured around the tunnel openings during excavation. The influence of distance between tunnels on the behavior of closely-spaced tunnel was investigated.

  • The tunnel construction projects is demanded more efficient risk management measures and loss forecasts to prepare for risk losses from an increase in the trend of tunnel construction. This study aims to analyze the risk factors that caused the loss of material in actual tunnel construction and to develop a quantified predictive loss model, based on the past loss record of tunnel construction projects.

삼병렬 터널의 안정성 검토를 위한 모형실험 연구 (A Study for the Stability Investigation of Three Parallel Tunnels Using Scaled Model Tests)

  • 삼병렬 터널은 3개의 터널이 서로 나란히 배열되는 형태의 터널이다. 본 연구에서는 터널간 이격거리, 터널단면 형상, 지보조건, 지반조건 등이 서로 다른 7가지 삼병렬 터널 모형들에 대한 축소모형실험을 통하여 모형별 균열개시압력과 터널 주변지반의 변형거동을 조사하였다. 터널간 이격거리가 작은 모형일수록 낮은 압력 수준에서 필러의 파괴가 일어나고 터널의 내공변형량도 증가하여 터널의 안정성은 감소하였다. 터널단면의 형상이 아치형, 편평아치형, 사각형인 모형들 중에서 사각형 단면을 가진 터널의 안정성이 가장 작았으며, 천반곡률반경이 작은 아치형 터널이 편평아치형 터널보다 안정성이 우수하였다. 터널의 천장부에 모형 록볼트를 설치한 모형은 무지보 터널 모형에 비하여 균열개시압력이 클 뿐만 아니라 천단침하량도 적게 나타나 지보의 효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 이방성 암반내 터널 모형은 등방성 모형과 매우 다른 변형거동을 나타내었으며, FLAC을 사용한 수치해석 결과는 모형실험의 결과와 정성적으로 부합하였다.

  • In this present study, to performed the model test and estimated the behavior characteristics of twin tunnel in accordance with the variation of the whole failure parameters which is the strength of the ground, distance of tunnel, angle of the joint, installation of tension bolts and the blasting load. To carry out the numerical analysis for verification of model test results and analyze the sensitivity on failure parameters using model test and numerical analysis results. Based on sensitivity analysis results, to propose the most habitually failure parameters in tunnel scale model test.

Study on seismic behavior and seismic design methods in transverse direction of shield tunnels

  • In order to investigate the seismic behavior and seismic design methods in the transverse direction of a shield tunnel, a series of model shaking table tests and a two-dimensional finite element dynamic analysis on the tests are carried out. Two kinds of static analytical methods based on ground-tunnel composite finite element model and beam-spring element model are proposed, and the validity of the static analyses is verified by model shaking table tests. The investigation concerns the dynamic response behavior of a tunnel and the ground, the interaction between the tunnel and ground, and an evaluation of different seismic design methods. Results of the investigation indicate that the shield tunnel follows the surrounding ground in displacement and dynamic characteristics in the transverse direction; also, the static analytical methods proposed by the authors can be used directly as the seismic design methods in the transverse direction of a shield tunnel.
