Development of Expert System for Maintenance of Tunnel (II) (터널의 유지관리를 위한 전문가시스템 개발(II) : 수치해석을 통한 지식베이스 확장)

  • The safety problem of aged tunnels has been emphasized. For the effective maintenance, site inspection of tunnel structures and surrounding grounds are required periodically. Also, the determination of safety of tunnels is not a simple problem. So the role experienced engineer in the maintenance is very important and development of an expert system that can perform as the engineers, has been needed. In this study, from the results of numerical analysis in several case, new precision inspection rules which can substitute actual numerical analysis are determined by a commercial program FLAC and regression analysis under various parameters such as material property, lining thickness, overburden and laterial coefficients. They are added to the knowledge base to determine safety of tunnel lining. To verify the expert system, the results are compared with an existing tunnel diagnosis report. It can be concluded that the new rule are well represented the actual numerical analysis under various site conditions. Therefore it is expected that the systematic management for effective maintenance of tunnel structure will be possible.

Evaluation of Design Compatibility for Lightweight Soundproof Tunnels using Pipe Truss Beams (파이프 트러스 빔을 이용한 경량방음터널의 설계적합성 평가)

  • In this paper, the structural characteristics of a lightweight soundproof tunnel to reduce the dead load imposed on the bridge are investigated. Subsequently, the design procedure of soundproof tunnel structures is reviewed and a design practice for the lightweight soundproof tunnel is carried out according to the reviewed procedure. Next, design compatibility for the lightweight soundproof tunnel is verified through a detailed finite element analysis. The result for evaluation of design compatibility shows that the lightweight soundproof tunnel has structural safety in structural members, welding zones and foundation parts. It is also confirmed that serviceability and buckling safety is excellent.

  • In this paper, structural analysis of High-Speed railway vertical tunnel structures was performed to verify the structural stability. The corrugated steel plate method was applied to the vertical tunnel structures for its simple construction method and low cost. The structural stability of Wall, Connection and Storage section was performed with LRFD and ASD design method at joint part, buckling, stress and plastic hinge. From the results, all of vertical tunnel structures shown the structural stability regardless of design method and structure types. So, the application of corrugated steel plate in vertical tunnel structures instead of cast-in-placed concrete was quite enough.

  • Namsan road are taxis in the engine room fires (07/14/2011 18:05) in the tunnel, and the driver of the vehicle was 100 passenger car and more than 500 evacuated were disasters.   • The priority order about a rational repair and reinforcement is generally decided by subjective decision of engineer. An appearance investigation by tunnel scanner that is widely used in foreign nation was carried out to decide about a rational repair and reinforcement through systematic and objective analysis in box and NATM tunnel. We have decided on the order of priority of an rational repair and reinforcement through the crack density analysis by span, distance and location with the result of tunnel scanner.

  • The smoke exhaust system is one of the effective systems to save lives when fire occurs underground. This study presents a complete analysis of effective smoke exhaust and smoke characteristics for a fire occurring with a transverse ventilation system use as a smoke exhaust system. The performance of the smoke management system was studied by computer modeling using FDS version 3.1. A fire size of 20MW was used for tunnel with balanced exhaust transverse ventilation. The smoke management design and the procedure as simulated in this study are also compliant to the tunnel construction and fire codes of Korea.

  • The pipes and cables buried below ground which may have helped to improved city landscapes is becoming direct and indirect cause for various disaster in Korea due to potential possibility of fire. Various types of fire in utility tunnels should be analysed in order to improve its fire safety level, therefore mail problems and shortcomings are checked out as a result of this analysis. By performing both tunnel fire risk analysis and fire safety level comparison in advanced countries, effective measure and approach to required standardization may be presented to bath tunnel structure and its containing cables in order to diminished up to a desirable rate in a near future.

  • This study assessed the behavior of rock pillar in tunnel diverging area by using a three dimensional numerical analysis. Based on parameters affecting the behavior of rock pillar, this study evaluated different safety factors according to pillar width, depth and rock conditions. It turned out that as the rock pillar width increases, the change curve of safety factors in accordance with depth and rock conditions shows more of the nonlinear behavior. By the assessment of the minimum safety factor, a safety factor chart on the behavior of rock pillar in tunnel diverging area was suggested.

  • For the purpose of determining the thickness of concrete lining and detect of the cavity where may be located behind tunnel lining, IE (Impact-Echo) method it effectively useful in the tunnel safety diagnosis and the quality control during the construction. As a part of case study, we applied IE method to various tunnel structure types such as road tunnel and subway tunnel constructed by NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method) and ASSM (American Steel Support Method). As tunnel specifications estimated from this method were compared with coring data, design drawing and other survey results, it was very good agreement with each other. In conclusion, we verified that IE method shows an accurate and reliable result. The conventional interpretation of IE method in frequency domain gives only vertical information at a certain point. However, the interpretation using time-frequency analysis and depth section imaging technique from two dimensional profiling surveys can show more reliable information about structure inside.

  • Silo is a warehouse for storing granular materials such as grain, cement, petroleum compound and coal. When compared to other warehouses, the silo can use space efficiently. The coal silo are consists of silo, tunnel and extractor. Of these, there are not sufficient study and design data on tunnel. It depends heavily upon trial and error method by field engineers with several years of experience. Recently, silos are constructed with a large size, and tunnel becomes to be in danger of severe cracking and collapse by a huge load of coal. So it is necessary to analyze structural safety for tunnel. In this study, the problems of the tunnel are analyzed by field data, and reinforcement of structural weak area using FE analysis has been carried out to design the tunnel satisfying structural safety. From FE Analysis, the reinforced model which does not exceed the yield strength of the material has been proposed.
