  • In order to investigate the prevalence of occupational disease in coal mine workers in Chonnam area, a cross sectional study was conducted in 1,097 workers from September to December in 1987. The results were as follows; 1. The prevalence of pneumoconiosis including suspected cases was 6.9% and was increased by age and working duration. 2. The prevalence of pneumoconiosis excluding suspected cases was 2.8%. 3. By the kind of job, prevalence of pneumoconiosis including suspected cases was l2.9% in tunnel drivers, 6.3% in coalface workers and 6.0% in other workers. 4. The prevalence of noise induced hearing loss was 5.1% and was increased by age and working duration. 5. The prevalence of noise induced hearing loss was the highest among tunnel drivers(7.3%), but it was not significantly different by the kind of job. 6. Occupational disease caused by vibration was not found in coal mine workers.

  • At the running speed higher than 250 km/h, several aerodynamic problems such as the increase of aerodynamic resistance, aerodynamic noise, pressure fluctuation at the tunnel entry, impulsive wave at the tunnel exit bring about the power consumption, deterioration of riding quality, and severe environmental noise. To solve these aerodynamic problems, the flow phenomena around the high speed train have to be analyzed in detail. In this study, the flow around the train is modelled as the 2-dimensional viscous compressible flow and the flow field is calculated numerically for the three different types of geometry and running speed. The aerodynamic drag coefficient and the pressure coefficient are evaluated each case.

  • One of important roles of concrete track is to reduce vibration transmitting to subgrade. In this paper, a numerical method for evaluating the effects of vibration reduction of concrete track is presented. Using the method, high frequency dynamic analyses and track-tunnel-soil interaction analyses are carried out for three types of concrete track in order to investigate the vibration reduction effects compared with normal ballast track.

  • This study presents the vibration excitation system to extract the aerodynamic stability derivatives which is generally called as flutter derivatives in civil engineering. The system consists of the excitation part to give a forced harmonic motion to the model and the sensing part to measure the aerodynamic forces as well as inertia forces acting on a bridge model. A data processing algorithm for extracting the flutter derivatives from the measured forces is also presented. From the wind tunnel tests, verification of present system was done by comparing the measured and analytical results for rectangular shaped model. The effects of excitation frequencies and amplitudes on flutter derivatives are discussed. Five kinds of actual bridge model were presented from the wind tunnel.

  • Internal noise level of a train running in tunnel is influenced by sound transmission coefficients of floor, side door, window and gangway as well as by the sound power levels of major noise sources. The structure of a gangway should be strong enough for the safety of passengers while it should be flexible enough for the movement of a train in curves. Due to this the sound transmission coefficients of gangways are relatively low compared to those of carbody structure. The effect of the sound transmission coefficient of the gangway is studied in this paper in regards to the existence of end doors.

  • The cavitation noise of 2-D hydrofoils is measured a cavitation tunnel. A new experimental method was developed for the noise measurement of 2-D hydrofoil. Three hydrofoils with the span of 600mm are designed and manufactured to investigate cavitation behavior and noise characteristics. The experimental results show the noise characteristics of various cavitation patterns and the noise performance of the three foils very well. This suggests that low-noise propeller blade section can be developed using the present experimental method.

  • Aerodynamically generated noise is significant when the train speed exceeds 250km/h. Experiments were performed in order to investigate the characteristics of aerodynamic noise sources generated from exterior of the HSR-350x, especially from the inter-coach spacing. Measurements of both the inside and outside of the cabin are carried out to investigate the characteristics of the noise. Effect of the size of the gap has been investigated through an wind tunnel test and it has been found that the low frequency noise is strongly dependent on the size of gap. Also performed is an array measurement to locate different noise sources from the high-speed train. Spectral characteristics of exterior noise sources have been examined through these experiments.

  • This paper presents a new prediction method of radiated noise from grille of the airconditioning appliance. Laminar vortex sheddings behind a circular cylinder are simulated by solving two dimensional unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The Finite Elements Method(FEM) and unstructured grid generation technique are applied to solve, the unsteady lift/drag coefficients are obtained to compute far-field noise using Lighthill's acoustic analogy. Grille is divided into some cylinder segments, and radiated noise from grille is obtained by summing noise generated from each segment. The effects of changing cross section of cylinder and grille geometry are studied. And sound pressure levels radiated from typical H-type grille are measured in KAIST anechoic wind tunnel at various inflow conditions and compared with numerical predictions.

  • One of commercial rapid transits produces peculiar booming sound when passing through the slab-track tunnel. In order to analyze that tympanic membrane-pressing noise systematically, typical source-transfer path-response analysis was carried out. Considering the octave band of booming noise, work scope was confined to structure-borne noise analysis, especially the dynamic behaviour of railway tracks. Experimental modal analysis of railway tracks, composed of rail, rubber pad, sleeper, ballast, and ground were performed. The results shows that transversal bending modes of the rail are suspicious for the cause of the low band booming noise. Finite element analysis are made use of to match preceding experimental results, and plausible dynamic properties of track components are produced.

  • On the Seoul sub-way tunnel works 7-20 site, Cautious blasting works were so effectivelly carried out. The vibration record were under 0.3cm/sec and blasting noise was under 80dB. Which was measured at the ground of house. At a result cautious blasting works under above allowable value was not influenced the structure of house and living conditions. On the architectural survey, They were some hair crack on the wall and floors but this was not a crack from blasting works.
