Tubular torsion beam of high strength steel is going about in an automotive rear axle due to the advantages of light weight and efficient rear packaging capability. High strength tubular beam can be manufactured by the hydroforming in order to ensure dimensional accuracy, while a conventional stamping has been used for steel tubular beam. Internal pressure, feeding and their combination are the key factors of controlling the process. Based on the numerical simulation and try-outs, the optimized hydroforming process conditions for the high strength tubular beam were suggested.
For an accurate analysis of hot stamping, a coupled simulation with different aspects of the process(i.e. mechanical, thermal, and phase transformation) is needed. However, coupled simulations are time consuming and costly. Therefore, the current study proposes a simplified method focused on the forming for the hot stamping simulation of a coupled torsion beam axle (CTBA) tubular beam. In this simplified method, non-isothermal conditions were assumed and only conduction was considered, since it represents the majority of the heat transfer during hot stamping. In addition, temperature and strain rate effects were also included. Moreover, an isothermal simulation was conducted and compared with a non-isothermal simulation. Finally, the simulations were verified by experiments. In conclusion, the proposed method is shown to be effective for the development of tube-type parts, and it effectively predicts the deformation of the tubular beam during hot stamping.
A kind of accordion-web RBS connection, "Tubular Web RBS (TW-RBS)" connection is proposed in this research. TW-RBS is made by replacing a part of web with a tube at the desirable location of the beam plastic hinge. This paper presents first a numerical study under cyclic load using ABAQUS finite element software. A test specimen is used for calibration and comparison of numerical results. Obtained results indicated that TW-RBS would reduce contribution of the beam web to the whole moment strength and creates a ductile fuse far from components of the beam-to-column connection. Besides, TW-RBS connection can increase story drift capacity up to 9% in the case of shallow beams which is much more than those stipulated by the current seismic codes. Furthermore, the tubular web like corrugated sheet can improve both the out-of-plane stiffness of the beam longitudinal axis and the flange stability condition due to the smaller width to thickness ratio of the beam flange in the plastic hinge region. Thus, the tubular web in the plastic hinge region improves lateral-torsional buckling stability of the beam as just local buckling of the beam flange at the center of the reduced section was observed during the tests. Also change of direction of strain in arc shape of the tubular web section is smaller than the accordion webs with sharp corners therefore the tubular web provides a better condition in terms of low-cycle fatigue than other accordion web with sharp corners.
The expediency of using tubular composite steel and concrete columns of annular cross-sections in construction is discussed. The new type space framework with tubular composite columns of multi-storey buildings and its rigid beam-column joints are demonstrated. The features of interaction between the circular steel tube and spun concrete stress-strain states during the concentrical and eccentrical loading of tubular composite members are considered. The modeling of the bearing capacity of beam-columns of composite annular cross-sections is based on the concepts of bending with a concentrical force and compression with a bending moment. The comparison of modeling results for the composite cross-sections of beam-columns is analysed. The expediency of using these concepts for the limit state verification of beam-columns in the methods of the partial safety factors design (PSFD) legitimated in Europe and the load and resistance factors design (LRFD) used in other countries is presented and illustrated by a numerical example.

The development of automotive rear chassis part using tube forming process has advantage of increase in part durability and decrease in its weight. We developed tubular type rear CTBA(Coupled Torsion Beam Axle) part with 60K high strength steel developed by POSCO in this project. The result was demonstrated that tubular type CTBA shows excellent durability performance and $10\%$ weight reduction compared with V-beam type CTBA in our work. Furthermore, we will adapt this technology to mass production and apply to the other chassis parts.

An innovative Reduced Beam Section (RBS) connection, called Tubular Web RBS connection (TW-RBS), has been recently introduced and its performance has been numerically investigated in some earlier studies. The TW-RBS connection is a kind of accordion-web RBS connection in which part of the flat web of the beam is replaced by a steel tube at the expected region of the plastic hinge. This paper presents experimental results of three TW-RBS connections under cyclic loading. Obtained results indicated that TW-RBS reduces contribution of the beam web to the whole moment strength and creates a ductile fuse far from components of the beam-to-column connection. Besides, TW-RBS connection can increase story drift capacity up to 9% in the case of shallow beams which is much more than those stipulated by the current seismic codes. Based on the experimental results, the tubular web in the plastic hinge region improves lateral-torsional buckling stability of the beam such that only local buckling of the beam flange at the center of the reduced section was observed during the tests. In order to achieve a better understanding, behavior of all TW-RBS specimens are also numerically investigated and compared with those of experimental results.

This study is concerning the structural behavior of reinforced concrete filled tubular column to steel H-beam connections with outer diaphram by simplified connection type. The important parameters of this study are the cross-section shape of tubular column and the spacing of hoop (60mm, 30mm, 20mm) and the concrete filled or not. The experimental results are summarized for the strength and displacement of each specimen.
Over the past few decades various experimental and theoretical investigations have been performed on offshore tubular members with regard to damage resistance and residual strength. Analysis of damaged tubular members requires a three-dimensional shell analysis for accurate results. Even though various commercial packages are available for this purpose, a beam-column analysis is preferred for offshore structural designs. In this paper, empirical equations are provided for a more accurate beam-column analysis of damaged tubes including the relationships between the lateral denting load and the depth of the dent, the rate of dent deepening due to increasing curvature and the longitudinal variation in the dent depth of damaged tubes. A design equation to predict the ultimate bending capacities of damaged offshore tubular members is also presented.
The purpose of this study is to examine the utility of concretefilled steel tubular column to H-beam connections with tubular stiffener. As a preliminary step. a tensile experiment was undertaken to scrutinize characteristics of the structural behavior that take place between beam flanges and column with tubular stiffener. A total of 4 types of experimental settings were developed as tabular stiffeners are made up 9, 18, and 27 mm of thickness and 50 and 80 mm of height respetively Along with the overall load subsequently the degree of displacement and strain were recorded. Based on the yield line theory results of this of this study were evaluated and further critically reviewed the applicability of the strength formula. This study found that collapse mechanism was emerged on the beam flange as reinforcing tabular stiffeners Complementary studies of this sort, including numerical analyses should be undertaken in order to develope specific design critera.
As a thin-walled structure, local joint flexibility (LJF) in a tubular structure is prominent, and it may produce significant effect on the static performance for the overall structure. This study presents a simplified analytical model to analyze the static behavior for a steel tubular structure with LJF. The presented model simplifies a tubular structure into a frame model consisted of beam elements with considering the LJFs at the connections between any two elements. Theoretical equations of the simplified analytical model are deduced. Through comparison with 3-D finite element results of two typical planar tubular structures consisted of T- and Y-joints respectively, the presented method is proved to be accurate. Furthermore, the effect of LJF on the overall performance of the two tubular structures (including the deflection and the internal forces) is also investigated, and it is found from analyses of internal forces and deformation that a rigid connection assumption in a frame model by using beam elements in finite element analysis can provide unsafe and inaccurate estimation.
