  • Heating experiments using the Ti-3Al-2.5V tube materials in a vacuum furnace have been performed to investigate a pertinent range of working temperatures and holding times for the development of the successive or simultaneous operation of superplastic hydroforming and diffusion bonding. The specimens were heated at $820^{\circ}C$, $870^{\circ}C$ and $920^{\circ}C$ respectively. Holding times at each temperature were varied up to 4 hours. Holding times longer than 1 hour were selected to consider the diffusion bonding process after or during the hydroforming process in the superplastic state. Grain sizes were varied from $5.7{\mu}m$ of the as-received tube to $9.2{\mu}m$ after heating at $870^{\circ}C/4hours$. Homogeneus granular microstructures could be maintained up to $870^{\circ}C$, while microstructures at $920^{\circ}C$ showed no more granular type.

  • To determine Pb level in blood, we usually .used to pull out about 5ml blood from venous vessel and this sample was digested with acids to decompose organic matter and then determined the Pb contents by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer with flame. But recent trend in quan titating Pb in small amount of sample is very much recommended in clinical chemistry specially pediatrics, and industrial hygiene and occupational health area. Authors tried to determine Pb contents in small amount blood of $25{\mu}l$ by using capillary tube method and got the possibility of determination of ng amount of Pb in $25{\mu}l$ whole blood sample without any pretreatment of sample.

  • According to recent changes in industry for semiconductor devices, a low-temperature treatment has become a necessity. These changes relate to size refinement and the development of new materials. While variation in cooling efficiency does not affect the yield when using a high-temperature treatment, uniform cooling efficiency is necessary avoid "inconsistencies/bends" in low temperature treatments. However it is difficult to increase temperature stabilization in low temperature treatments. In this paper, using CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics), we analyze and manipulate the design and input of the low-temperature system to attempt to control for temperature variations within the quartz tube, of which airflow appears to be a predominant factor. This simulation includes variable inputs such as airflow rate, head pressure, and design manipulations in the S.C.U. (Super Cooling Unit).

  • The present study used the MILD combustor, which has coaxial cylindrical tube. The outside tube of the MILD combustor corresponds to the exhaust gas passage and the inner side tube is the furnace passage. A numerical analysis was accomplished to elucidate the characteristics of exhaust gas entrainment toward the inner furnace with the changes of venturi nozzle geometrical parameters, nozzle position, nozzle gap between high pressure air nozzle and venturi nozzle, and with the change of high pressure nozzle inlet velocity. The entrainment flow rate for the case with the high pressure air nozzle attached at the exhaust gas wall has relatively small change with the change of nozzle gap. That for the case with the high pressure air nozzle exposed to the exhaust gas has monotonically increase with the change of nozzle gap. The flow rate ratio of entrainment flow rate has considerably increase tendency with relatively lower air inlet velocity, on the other hand, that with relatively higher air inlet velocity could be seen relatively small increase.

  • A MILD (Moderate and Intense Low oxygen Dilution) combustor decreases NOx formation effectively during the combustion process and NOx formation is affected significantly by the exhaust gas entrainment rate toward fuel and air. The present study focused on the new MILD combustor, which has coaxial cylindrical tube. The outside tube of the new MILD combustor corresponds to the exhaust gas passage and the inner side tube is the furnace passage. The connection pipe is set between the outer side and the inner side tubes and coaxial air nozzle is inserted at the center of the connection pipe. A numerical analysis is accomplished to elucidate the characteristics of exhaust gas entrainment toward the inner furnace with the changes of air nozzle exit velocity, nozzle diameter, nozzle exit position and exhaust gas side pressure. The entrainment rate is proportional to the square root of air nozzle exit velocity and negatively proportional to the pressure difference between the exhaust gas side and furnace side pressures. The effect of air nozzle exit position is not considerable on the exhaust gas entrainment.

  • It is important to determine the concentration of long-lived radionuclides (e.g., 129I) in nuclear waste to ensure safety when handling it. To analyze nuclides in a solid sample (e.g., concrete and soil), it is essential to effectively separate and purify the nuclides of interest in the sample. This study reports the comprehensive efforts made to validate the analytical procedure for 129I detection in solid samples, using a high-temperature combustion furnace. 129I volatilized from the sample collected in 0.01 M HNO3 solution with a reducing agent (e.g., NaHSO3) and was rapidly measured by ICP-MS. Analytical conditions, such as pyrolysis temperature and types of mobile phase gas, catalyst, and trapping solution, were optimized to obtain a high recovery rate of spiked 129I. Finally, the optimized method was applied for the simultaneous analysis of other volatile radionuclides, such as 3H and 14C. The performance test results for the optimized method confirmed that the LSC (for 3H and 14C) and ICP-MS (for 129I) measurements, with the separation of volatile nuclides using a high-temperature combustion furnace, were reliable.

  • This study presents the techniques to manufacture the model concrete and model reinforcement for the 1/5-scale 3-story reinforced concrete frame. The used model concrete has sufficient workability but shows a little lower strength than expected model steel was made of commercial $\phi$3.2mm and $\phi$2.0mm wire by using deforming device and vacuum tube electric furnace. The yield strength can be simulated but it was difficult to simulate the other properties. The load cell was specially manufactured to measure the shear force in the columns of the first story. The carrying frame and the hinge adapter of artificial mass are explained. The special problems in the process of construction of model are also dressed.

  • Finite element analysis was carried out to investigate the integrity and reliability of boiler module during sea transportation. The boiler module was supported by steel structure to relieve the instantaneous shock from oceanic wave and its primary parts were strengthened with several reinforcements. Finned tube walls which were used in the furnace wall were assumed as orthotropic plates having equivalent material properties. The bank tubes were also equivalently modeled in accordance with ASME B31.1 for the convenience of finite element modeling. The calculation results were compared with the yield stress of the material. In particular, the bank tube stress, which was evaluated by converting the calculated stresses in equivalent tubes into those in original tubes by using the ratio of diameter, was also examined with yield stress.
