Comparison of Absolute and Differential ECT Signals around Tube Support Plate in Steam Generator

  • In this paper, absolute and differential eddy current signals from various defects in the steam generator tube are numerically predicted and their signal slope characteristics are investigated. The signal changes due to frequency increase are also observed. After studying signal patterns from various defects and frequencies, the analysis of mixed defect signals affected by the presence of a ferromagnetic support plate is attempted. For the signal prediction, axisymmetric finite element modeling is used and this leads us to the slope angle analysis of the signal. Results show that differential signals are useful for locating the position of a defect under the support plate, while absolute signals are easy to presume and interpret even though the effect of support plate is mixed. Combined use of these two types of signals will help us accomplish a more reliable inspection.

수직원통관에서 선회유동의 속도분포에 관한 연구 (A Study on Swirling Flow in a Vertical Circular Tube)

  • Experiment and numerical investigation are performed on swirling water flow in a vertical circular tube. This kind of flow is used in heat exchangers, combustion chambers, thermal power plants, and other mechanical equipment to move slurries or to convey materials. However, limited information on swirling flow in vertical circular tubes is available. In the current paper, the three-dimensional particle image velocimetry(PIV) technique is employed to compare the measured velocity profiles of water along the vertical circular tube with those of non-swirl flow. In addition, computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code was applied to calculation of the flow velocities with swirl.

  • Hollow cathode discharge(HCD)에서 알곤 기체를 완충 기체로 사용하여 전류 변화에 따른 광검류 신호를 측정하였다. 광검류 신호는 방전의 전기 전도도의 증가 또는 감소에 의해 나타나며 전기 전도도의 변화는 전자 충돌에 의한 이온화율의 변화에 의해 일어난다. 낮은 방전 전류에서 광검류 신호는 가장 낮은 준안정 준위 원자의 밀도 변화와 밀접한 관계가 있다는 결론을 얻었다.

  • Transient magnetic diffusion process in a melt-cast BSCCO-2212 tube is analyzed by an analytical method. The transient diffusion equation is transformed into an ordinary differential equation by integral method. The penetration depth of magnetic field into a superconducting tube is obtained by solving the differential equation numerically. The results show that the penetration depth as a function of time which is somewhat different from the results by Bean's critical current model. The reason of the difference between the present results and that of Bean's model is discussed and compared in this paper.

Air Bulging을 이용한 열간 알루미늄 성형에 관한 연구 (A Study on Al Hot Forming Using Air Bulging)

  • Hot tensile tests were conducted at different temperatures ranging from $20^{\circ}C$ to $550^{\circ}C$ to evaluate the mechanical properties of Al5052 seamless tubes. Such tubes can provide the technological foundation for complex forming using hot air bulging. Hot air bulging is one of the recently developed hydroforming techniques and it has some limitations in terms of cycle times. The benefits of hot air bulging are weight and cost savings through part consolidation and reduced post-forming processes such as welding and piercing. In order to extend the forming limits of Al lightweight material hot air bulging was investigated. A heated tube was placed in a heated die and sealed at the ends by sealing cylinders. The heated tube was subsequently expanded against the die cavity wall by internal pressure using air medium. The results of the current study show that axial feeding speed and air pressure have an effect on the formability of Al tubes during air bulging at elevated temperatures.

환형 관출구로부터 방출되는 약한 충격파에 관한 연구 (Study of the Weak Shock Wave Discharged from an Annular Tube)

  • The shock wave discharged from an annular duct leads to very complicated flow features, such as Mach stem, spherical waves, and vortex rings. In the current study, the merging phenomenon and propagation characteristics of the shock wave are numerically investigated using a CFD method. The Harten-Yee's total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme is used to the unsteady, axisymmetric, two-dimensional, compressible Euler equations. The Mach number of incident shock wave $M_s$ is varied in the range below 2.0. The computational results are visualized to observe the major features of the annular shock waves discharged from the tube. On the symmetric axis, the peak pressure produced by the shock wave and its location depend upon strongly the radius of the annular tubes. A Mach stem is generated along the symmetric axis of the annular tubes.

A Direct Detection of $CO_2$ in Sealed-off $CO_2$ Discharge Tube by Optoacoustic Effect

  • A simple analytical method that allows direct monitoring of small amount of CO$_2$ in a CO$_2$ discharge tube which utilizes the optoacoustic detection technique is described. The dependence of the optoacoustic signal on the mole fraction of CO$_2$ was shown that the system responded linearly to the amount of CO$_2$ present in the miniature discharge cavity equipped with Cu electrodes. It was also found that fraction of dissociated CO$_2$ varied from 14 to 37% of the initial concentration which depended on the current and the pressure in the tube. This simple and easy detection method has proven to possess the practical advantages over the conventional systems for the study of CO$_2$ laser electrodes.

제하 컴플라이언스법 및 직류전위차법을 이용한 Zr-2.5Nb 압력관 휘어진 CT 시편의 균열시작 평가 (Evaluation of the Crack Initiation of Curved Compact Tension Specimens of a Zr-2.5Nb Pressure Tube Using the Unloading Compliance and Direct Current Potential Drop Methods)

  • The direct current potential drop (DCPD) method and the unloading compliance (UC) method with a crack opening displacement gauge were applied simultaneously to the Zr-2.5Nb curved compact tension (CCT) specimens to determine which of the two methods can precisely determine the crack initiation point and hence the crack length for evaluation of their fracture toughness. The DCPD method detected the crack initiation at a smaller load-line displacement compared to the UC method. As a verification, a direct observation of the fracture surfaces on the curved compact tension specimens was made on the CCT specimens experiencing either 0.8 to 1.0 mm load line displacement or various loads from $50\%\;to\;80\%$ of the maximum peak load, or $P_{max}$. The DCPD method is concluded to be more precise in determining the crack initiation and fracture toughness, J in Zr-2.5Nb CCT specimens than the UC method.

  • CANDU형 핵연료채널 압력관(Zr-2.5%Nb)과 calandria관(Zircaloy-2)에 대한 원격장 와전류탐상의 자계분포특성을 파악하기 위하여 유한요소 해석을 수행하였다. 압력관과 칼란드리아관의 전자기장 분포와 위상각 해석을 통하여 최적 검사 주파수와 감지코일의 위치를 평가하였다. 또한 축대칭 구조물(Al-ring과 Al-block)이 공존시 파라미터해석을 통하여 원격장 와전류의 특성을 평가하였다.

  • 국내 원자력발전소 증기발생기 전열관의 건전성을 평가하기 위해서 수행되는 와전류검사의 탐촉자는 주로 두가지 종류가 사용한다. 첫 번째 와전류탐촉자는 마모와 같은 체적성 결함을 검사하기 위해 사용되는 보빈탐촉자이다. 두 번째 와전류탐촉자는 균열과 같은 비체적성 결함을 검사하기 위한 회전형 탐촉자이다. 와전류탐촉자는 검사 계통의 핵심적인 부분으로서 특정 절차서에 따라 평가가 이루어질 때 대상 시험체의 합부를 결정하는 자료를 제공하게 된다. 또한, 수집된 와전류신호의 품질은 사용되는 탐촉자의 설계특성, 기하학적 형태, 운전주파수에 따라 결정되고, 검사 결과에 미치는 영향이 크기 때문에 와전류검사 탐촉자의 선정은 특히 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 차동형 보빈탐촉자의 코일 권선 수의 변화가 탐촉자의 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이 결과를 이용하여 원전 증기발생기 전열관 와전류검사 보빈탐촉자를 설계하였다. 연구 결과 코일 권선 수의 변화는 전열관 형상 및 재질에 따른 검사주파수 선정에 크게 영향이 미침을 알 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구 결과를 통하여 원전 증기발생기 전열관 와전류검사 보빈탐촉자의 설계시 더욱 정밀한 코일 권선 수 설정에 토대를 구축하였다.
