  • As civil infrastructure has continued to age worldwide, its structural integrity has been threatened owing to material deteriorations and continual loadings from the external environment. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has emerged as a cost-efficient method for ensuring structural safety and durability. As SHM research has gradually addressed an increasing number of structure-related problems, it has become difficult to understand the changing research topic trends. Although previous review papers have analyzed research trends on specific SHM topics, these studies have faced challenges in providing (1) consistent insights regarding macroscopic SHM research trends, (2) empirical evidence for research topic changes in overall SHM fields, and (3) methodological validations for the insights. To overcome these challenges, this study proposes a framework tailored to capturing the trends of research topics in SHM through a bibliometric and network analysis. The framework is applied to track SHM research topics over 15 years by identifying both quantitative and relational changes in the author keywords provided from representative SHM journals. The results of this study confirm that overall SHM research has become diversified and multi-disciplinary. Especially, the rapidly growing research topics are tightly related to applying machine learning and computer vision techniques to solve SHM-related issues. In addition, the research topic network indicates that damage detection and vibration control have been both steadily and actively studied in SHM research.

  • As an application and potential of 3D printing (3DP) accelerates in diverse industries, the use of 3DP is also increasing in the textile and fashion industry. Since the fashion trend is rapidly changing and there are high demands of customized products for customer segments, research on manufacturing of 3DP textiles has become more important. 3DP textiles have different physical and chemical properties depending on a various 3D printing technologies or materials. However, it is difficult to fabricate 3DP textiles that meets demand of garment such as flexibility, wearability, tensile strength and abrasion resistance so that 3DP in fashion industry relatively has a narrow range of applications compared to other industries. The aim of this paper is to provide a trend of research about manufacturing 3DP textiles by analyzing previous studies according to textile's properties. This paper classifies the five types of 3DP textiles and analyses systematically. First, 3DP textiles blended with existing textiles. Second, 3DP textiles utilizing the structural design of existing textiles. Third, 3DP textiles designed with continuous units. Fourth, 3DP textiles utilizing material properties. Fifth, 3DP textiles based on smart materials. Based on this analysis, future research of manufacturing 3DP textiles needs are identified and discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop high-valued added socks by utilizing consumer design preference research in design. The study was performed by investigating literatures including previous studies, and researching the recognition and design preference of consumers. As a final step, socks designs were developed to reflect the results of the research. Gender differences have been found in the choice of socks. Women put more importance to the design, color and trend and prefer geometric, animals and plants patterns, and unique images compared to men. In terms of fashion interest level, 'high' group preferred design, color, and trend than 'middle' and 'low' group, and also preferred geometric, abstract patterns. Women's and unisex socks were designed for people in their 20s, the age group with the highest level of interest in fashion, after taking results of the consumer design preference research into account. Main themes for the lady's socks are 'Soft Shape' and 'Line Composition' in order to express delicate, soft sensibility. For the unisex socks, 'Daydreamer' and 'Free Zone' are the themes used to express young energy and the sense of freedom. 12 styles were developed by creating 3 styles per theme using Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS5 programs. As a result, it is confirmed that design strategies in segmented market are necessary for the high-valued added products. Also, the understanding of changes in consumer's tastes and needs through regular market research is needed for the competitive socks design planning.

  • Understanding research trends is necessary to select research topics and explore related works. Most researchers search representative keywords of interesting domains or technologies to understand research trends. However some conferences in artificial intelligence or data mining fields recently publish hundreds to thousands of papers for each year. It makes difficult for researchers to understand research trend of interesting domains. In our paper, we propose an automatic technology keyphrase extraction method to support researcher to understand research trend for each conference or journal. Keyphrase extraction that extracts important terms or phrases from a text, is a fundamental technology for a natural language processing such as summarization or searching, etc. Previous keyphrase extraction technologies based on pretrained language model extract keyphrases from long texts so performances are degraded in short texts like titles of papers. In this paper, we propose a techonolgy keyphrase extraction model that is robust in short text and considers the importance of the word.

  • Wind power generation has been viewed as a promising renewable energy to meet challenge of climate change. However, wind power is susceptible to climate change because previous investigation shows there are declining trends of the land surface wind speeds over middle and lower latitudes. Since long term variation trends is notably different from inter-annual random variation and could have notable impact on wind farm from planning perspective, observed meteorological data of Taiwan is investigated to find out long term variation trends of wind speed and its impact on wind power generation. It is discovered that wind speed in majority of stations in west coast of Taiwan have ascending trends while that of all investigated stations in east coast have descending trends. Since east of Taiwan is not suitable for wind power development for its higher likelihood suffering Typhoons and most of established wind farm locate in west coast of Taiwan, it is speculated that long term variation trend of wind do not have notable negative impact on wind power generation in Taiwan.

  • The present article researches large-amplitude thermal free vibration characteristics of nonlocal two-phase piezo-magnetic nano-size beams having geometric imperfections by considering piezoelectric reinforcement scheme. The piezoelectric reinforcement can cause an enhanced vibration behavior of smart nanobeams under magnetic field. All previous studies on vibrations of piezoelectric-magnetic nano-size beams ignore the influences of geometric imperfections which are crucial since a nanobeam is not always ideal or perfect. Nonlinear governing equations of a smart nanobeam are derived based on classical beam theory and an analytical trend is provided to obtain nonlinear vibration frequency. This research shows that changing the volume fraction of piezoelectric phase in the material has a great influence on vibration behavior of smart nanobeam under electric and magnetic fields. Also, it can be seen that nonlinear vibration behaviors of smart nanobeam is dependent on the magnitude of exerted electric voltage, magnetic imperfection amplitude and substrate constants.
