  • The objectives of the paper are to develop the infra-technologies for reclaiming the effluents from wastewater treatment plants and reusing for agriculture water. The Suwon wastewater treatment plant has been selected for wastewater reuse tests and the water quality and treatment efficiencies are investigated. Three levels of wastewater treatments that are the effluent from the plant, sand filtering, and ultra-violet treatment are applied in the pilot system. The randomized block method was applied to wastewater application to paddy rice with five treatments, three blocks, and two replica. The control was the plots with groundwater irrigation, the other treatments are to use polluted stream flow by pumping, in addition to three wastewater treatments. The block test plots and field plots have been monitored for the water quality, soil pollution, and health hazards during the crop stages.

  • Chromic acid anodizing of aluminium is an effective process for producing a substrate which provides excellent surface properties to assembly. However, new chromium-free finishing metal treatments are being developed to reach new environmental goals. Present study deals with chromium free experimental conditions for both deoxidizing and anodizing treatments. Results clearly demonstrate the potentiality for environmentally friendly treatments to get suitable metal-adhesive performance. In particular, the role of both metal surface porosity and chemical composition has been highlighted thus allowing to propose alternative to classical treatments for aeronautic applications.

  • The effect of plant extracts of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus chamadulonsis), garlic (Allium sativium), marigold (Tagetes erecta) and neem (Azadirachta indica) and essential oils were tested on the suppression of root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita under greenhouse and field conditions. In vitro study, all tested treatments had nematicidal effect on nematode juveniles after 24 and 48 hours from exposures. The highest percentage of nematode mortality was achieved by application of neem extract (65.4%), essential oils (64.4%) and marigold extract (60.5%), followed by garlic and eucalyptus extracts (38.7-39.5%). Under greenhouse and field conditions, neem extract and essential oils treatments were more effective in reducing population numbers of the M. incognita in soil and root gall index compared to other treatments. In field experiments, the maximum protection of tomato plant against root-knot nematode was obtained by application of neem and essential oil treatments, 44.2 and 32.6%, respectively.

  • Georgia lily bulbs from experimental plot of the Chungnam National University, weighting 14.1~18.0gm, were used for this study. These bulbs were treated for the natural cooling at cold frame for 90 days and refrigerating at $8^{\circ}C{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 50~90 days. And then, these bulbs were planted in the vinyl house. The results of forcing for each treatments were as follow; 1) The natural cooling treatment gave 3 days ealier flowering than the refrigeratings. 2) In the blooming rate, the height of plant, and the size of flower, all refrigerating treatments were bigger than the natural cooling. 3) Among the refrigerating treatments, the best results were attain in the 50 and 60 days treatments than others. 4) Therefore, it is recommended that Georgia lily, as the next crop after Chrysanthemum ect, can be forced effectively by refrigerating treatment at $8^{\circ}C$ for 50~60 days, if these bulbs can be planted until the end of December.

  • Two application rates (9 and 18 t/ha) of poultry litter and a recommended rate of commercial fertilizer were studied to determine their effects on nutrient (N and P) losses in surface and subsurface runoff and loadings in soil layers from conventionally-tilled com by the treatments. The model predicted higher sediment losses than observed data from all treatments. The overpredicted sediment losses resulted in overprediction of organic-N and sediment-P losses in surface runoff. Simulated soluble-P losses in surface runoff were close to observed data, while NO3-N losses in surface runoff were underpredicted from all treatments. Observed NO3-N concentrations in leachate at 1.0-m depth from commercial fertilizer treatment were fairly well predicted. But the concentratins were overpredicted from poultry litter treatments due to high simulation of organic-N mineralization simulated by the model.

  • This case study reports the clinical response to Korean Medicine (KM) treatments including capsaicin-containing (CP) pharmacopuncture in three patients with acute low back and hip pain. Three patients were diagnosed with acute lumbar sprain, and were treated with CP pharmacopuncture, and other KM treatments including acupuncture, cupping, and herbal medicine. Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Oswestry Disablility Index (ODI), and Clinical Evaluation Grade (CEG) were used to evaluate symptom changes. After one or two treatments, acute pain with limited range of motion in the low back and thigh region improved with a decrease in NRS, ODI, and CEG. These results suggest that further studies on KM treatments including CP pharmacopuncture for acute low back and hip pain are warranted.

  • The influence of cyclic treatments with H2O2/DIW (1 : 10) and HF/DIW (1 : 100) on the roughness of silicon surface in the wet chemical processing was investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). During the step of the SC-1 cleaning, there is a large increase in roughness on the silicon surface which will result in the poor gate oxide breakdown properties. The roughness of the silicon wafer after the SC-1 cleaning step was reduced by cyclic treatments of hydrogen peroxide solution and hydrofluoric acid solution instead of HF-only cleaning. AFM images after each step clearly illustrated that the average roughness of silicon surface after three times treatments with H2O2 and HF solutions was reduced by 10 times compared with that after the SC-1 cleaning step.
