The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of adrenalectomy and PMSG treatment on reproductive organs and serum steroid hormone level in immature female rats. The animals used in this experiment were 25 days old female rats weighing a, pp.oximately 70g. They were randomly divided into two groups of intact rat group (Int-) and adrenalectomized rat group (Adx-) and each group were subdivided into two groups of Non-PMSG (-Cont) and PMSG treated (-PMSG) group. The rat of PMSG-treated group (-PMSG) was administered subcutaneously with 25 IU PMSG on first day (9 a.m.) after adrenalectomy. The adrenalectomized rat groups were su, pp.ied with saline solution through the experiment period. The rate of ovulation and vaginal opening and reproductive organ weights were observed at 8, 32, 56, 80 and 104 hours after PMSG treatment. At the same time, the serum level of estradiol-17${\beta}$ and progesterone were measured by the radioimmunoassay. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Ovulation was shown at 56 hours after treatment in Int-PMSG group and Adx-PMSG group and Adx-PMSG group. The rate of ovulation was very low in PMSG-treated groups, but it was increased in 80 to 90% at 104 hours after treatment. However, there was no ovulation in Int-Cont group and Adx-Cont group. 2. Vaginal opening was shown at 56 hours after treatment in Int-PMSG group and Adx-PMSG group and a, pp.ared in 80% at 104 hours after treatment. The rate of vaginal opening in PMSG-treated groups was very low, but Int-Cont group and Adx-Cont group had no vaginal opening. 3. The weight of ovary and uterus in two PMSG-treated groups were increased with the elapse of time after treatment and were significantly heavy in all observation time, but changes in Int-Cont group and Adx-Cont group were not recognized. The weights of ovaries and utera in Adx-Cont group were increased with the elapse of time. 4. The level of serum estradiol-17${\beta}$ was remarkably increased in PMSG-treated groups (Int-PMSG and Adx-PMSG groups) compared with Int-Cont and Adx-Cont group, and significant difference was recognized between Non-PMSG group and PMSG-treated group in the experimental period. Especially, the highest levels of Int-PMSG groups and Adx-PMSG groups were shown at 80 and 56 hours after treatment and after ward estradiol-17${\beta}$ levels of PMSG-treated groups were decreased. However, changes of the levels did not a, pp.ared in Non-PMSG groups at 104 hours after treatment. 5. The level of serum progesterone in PMSG-treated groups was significantly increased between 80 and 104 hours after treatment. With the elapse of time, the level was increased in all observed groups except for Int-Cont and Adx-Conx group. And the order from the highest level at 104 hours after treatment was Int-PMSG, Adx-PMSG, Int-Cont and Adx-Cont group.

Background: Stopping medical treatment by tuberculosis (TB) patients prior to completing treatment period is a major concern in private hospitals. We evaluated the impact of public-private mix (PPM) project on increasing treatment success rate of TB in a private tertiary hospital in Korea. Methods: Starting in February 2009, TB patients treated at Dankook University Hospital received health education and case monitoring activities by specially trained public health nurses (PPM project). On a retrospective basis, we reviewed medical records and compared the treatment outcome of TB patients treated under the PPM project (PPM group) to patients treated without the PPM project (control group) between January 2008 and June 2010. In addition, we also evaluated the risk factors treatment non-completion. Results: The number of patients in the PPM group and control group were 123 (85 pulmonary TB and 38 extrapulmonary TB) and 146 (101 pulmonary TB and 45 extra-pulmonary TB), respectively. The PPM group had demographic and clinical findings comparable to those of control group. The PPM group showed a significantly higher treatment success rate (93.5%) compared to the control group (77.9%). However, development of complications, proximity to the hospital, and presence of co-morbid disease did not influence the treatment success rate. Conclusion: The PPM project was effective at increasing the TB treatment success rate. An effort to improve and to expand the PPM project is needed in private Korean hospitals.
Purpose: The ability to concentrate urine becomes an important index in determining nocturnal enuresis (NE) treatment. The aim of our study was to investigate first-morning urine osmolality (Uosm) changes at the end of treatment compared to before treatment in children with NE. Methods: A total of 71 children with NE were divided into two groups according to the level of first-morning Uosm before treatment: high group (≥800 mOsm/kg) and low group (<800 mOsm/kg). Baseline parameters were obtained from uroflowmetry, frequency volume charts for at least 2 days, and a questionnaire for lower urinary tract symptoms. All patients were basically treated with standard urotherapy and medication. The first-morning Uosm was measured twice, before treatment and at the end of treatment. Results: The response rate was higher in the low group after 3 months of treatment than in the high group (P=0.041). However, there was no difference between the two groups at the end of the treatment. In the high group, the first-morning Uosm at the end of treatment did not show a significant change compared to before treatment. In contrast, the first-morning Uosm increased in the low group at the end of treatment (P<0.001). However, it was still lower than that of the high group (P=0.007). Conclusions: The ability to concentrate nocturnal urine improved at the end of treatment compared to before treatment in the low Uosm NE children. In addition, NE improved faster in the low Uosm group before treatment than in the high group.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is comparison of clinical treatment outcome between oriental medicine group and oriental-western medicine group about Bell's palsy. Methods : We measured the facial palsy changes of the patients who were admitted for Bell's palsy in the Oriental Medical hospital of Dong-eui medical center from 07-01-2003 to 07-12-2004. Bell's palsy patients were divided into two groups. One group(A group) was treated by Oriental medicine treatment. The other group(B group) was treated by Oriental-Western medicine treatment. The effects of these treatment was evaluated by Yanagihara's unweighted grading system. Results : B group was marked more higher than A group in treatment outcome. We discovered that it is significant differences between two groups after 1 week and after 2 week in treatment stage. Conclusion : These results provided that B group was more effective than A group in treatment of Bell's palsy. For clearly comparing the effect of Oriental medicine treatment and Oriental-Western medicine treatment on Bell's palsy, more numbers of sample and longer duration of treatment are needed.
This study was carried out to evaluate the body fat breakdown during topical seaweed extract treatment and in combination with the iontophoresis method to enhance skin absorption of lipolytic compounds. Of 14 female obesity subjects, 7 treated a gel types of seaweed extract only(control group) and 7 treated in combination with the iontophoresis(experimental group). Topical treatment of each sample was designed for 2 weeks, treated with 2 times a day about $10m{\ell}$ on the abdomen, triceps and thigh, respectively. Experimental group treat with the iontophoresis during 5 minutes immediately after topical treatment. After one and two weeks of topical treatment, measured body fat, skinfolds thickness, body circumference respectively. Then venous blood samples were taken and analyzed serum lipids. The results were as follows; 1) There were decrement of body weight, $\%$ of body fat, abdomen, triceps and thigh circumference and abdomen, triceps and thigh thickness between pre and post treatment in both group. These decrement were predominant in the iontophoresis treated group. Especially, there were $16\%$ of body fat decrement in the experimental group after two weeks iontophoresis treatment(control group VS experimental group = $33.54{\pm}2.70$ VS $28.37{\pm}3.38$, p<0.01). 2) There were decrement in total CHOL, LDL, TRIG and increment in HDL in both group. These phenomena were predominant in the iontophoresis treated group. CHOL decrement in the experimental group were significant after two weeks iontophoresis treatment(control group VS experimental group = $190.24{\pm}34.36$ VS $157.76{\pm}24.45$, p<0.001). These results suggest that the topical treatment of seaweed extract effective for fat breakdown and maximized in the combination with the topical seaweed extracts treatment and the iontophoresis.
Objective : The study aims to find out the effects of Chuna treatment on neck pain. Methods: Out of 40 neck pain people, we divided 20 people in group A was treated Acupuncture and China, 20 people in group B was treated Acupuncture. We measured Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and symptom grade before and after treatment in each group's. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS program. Results : 1. Symptom grade III was the highest frequency before treatment in Group A and Group B. After treatment, grade 0 was The highest frequency in Group A But grade 0, II were the highest frequency in Group B. 2. Group A was Significantly decreased in VAS compared with Group B. Conclusion: These results suggest that Chuna treatment is useful on the patients of neck pain.
To clarify the effect of chuna treatment reached at neck pain, the faculties of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine in Hospital of Oriental Medicine, Kyung Hee Medical Center had carried out chuna treatment for 72 patients who had neither structural defectiveness of cervical spine nor neural injury but simple soft tissue damage among people who visited the hospital with the neck pain since Jun. 11, 1997 to Dec. 31 in the year. The way of study: 32 out of 72 patients were treated by acupuncture treatment going with chuna treatment (calling 'Group A') and the other 40 patients were cured by only acupuncture (calling 'Group B'). The treatment in both Group A and B were performed 6 times totally at intervals of a time for 2 days. To judge the effect of treatment, both method-visual analog scale(VAS) and ,check of ROM-were performed each time. The results of study 1. Each one in Group A itself, according to the number of the treatment in progress, showed the note worthy decrease of pain and improvement of range of motion(ROM) in the cervical(P <0.001). 2. Each one in Group B itself, according to the number of the treatment in progress, showed the note worthy decrease of pain and improvement of range of motion(ROM) in the cervical(P <0.001). 3. In the degree of improvement in pain, the Group A who had been treated by both acupuncture and chuna treatment at the same lime showed some meaningful decrease in pain compared to the Group B with acupuncture treatment alone(P <0.001). 4. In the degree of improvement in ROM, the Group A who were treated by both chuna and acupuncture treatment had meaningful improvement compared to Group B who got the only acupuncture treatment(P <0.001).
