Due to the rugged terrain, metro lines in mountain city across numerous wide rivers and deep valleys, resulting in instability of high-pier bridge and insecurity of metro train under crosswind. Compared with the conditions of no-wind, crosswind triggers severer vibration of the dynamic system; compared with the short-pier viaduct, the high-pier viaduct has worse stability under crosswind. For these reasons, the running safety of the metro vehicle traveling on a high-pier viaduct under crosswind is analyzed to ensure the safe operation in metro lines in mountain cities. In this paper, a dynamic model of the metro vehicle-track-bridge system under crosswind is established, in which crosswind loads model considering the condition of wind zone are built. After that, the evaluation indices and the calculation parameters have been selected, moreover, the basic characteristics of the dynamic system with high-pier under crosswind are analyzed. On this basis, the response varies with vehicle speed and wind speed are calculated, then the corresponding safety zone is determined. The results indicate that, crosswind triggers drastic vibration to the metro vehicle and high-pier viaduct, which in turn causes running instability of the vehicle. The corresponding safety zone for metro vehicle traveling on the high-pier is proposed, and the metro traffic on the high-pier bridge under crosswind should not exceed the corresponding limited vehicle speed to ensure the running safety.

The Probabilistic Traveling Salesman Problem (PTSP) is an important topic in the study of traveling salesman problem and stochastic routing problem. The goal of PTSP is to find a priori tour visiting all customers with a minimum expected length, which simply skips customers not requiring a visit in the tour. There are many existing researches for the homogeneous version of the problem, where all customers have an identical visiting probability. Otherwise, the researches for the heterogeneous version of the problem are insufficient and most of them have focused on search base algorithms. In this paper, we propose a simple construction algorithm to solve the heterogeneous PTSP. The Minimum Expected Length Insertion (MELI) algorithm is a construction algorithm and consists of processes to decide a sequence of visiting customers by inserting the one, with the minimum expected length between two customers already in the sequence. Compared with optimal solutions, the MELI algorithm generates better solutions when the average probability is low and the customers have different visiting probabilities. We also suggest a local search method which improves the initial solution generated by the MELI algorithm.

Since most of the Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission lines are untransposed and multi-circuits, errors are occurred inevitably because of the unbalanced impedances of the lines and so on. Therefore, a distance relaying algorithm applicable to the untransposed multi-circuits transmission lines needs to be developed. The proposed algorithm of fault location estimation in the paper uses the fundamental phasor to reduce the effects of the harmonics. This algorithm also analyzes the second-order difference of the phasor to calculate the traveling times of waves generated by faults. The traveling time of the waves generated by faults is derived from the second-order difference of the phasor. Finally, the distance from the relaying point to the faults is estimated using the traveling times. To analyze the performance of the algorithm, a power system with the EHV untransposed double-circuit transmission lines are modeled and simulated under various fault conditions such as several fault types, fault locations, fault inception angles and fault resistances. The results of the simulations show that the proposed algorithm has the capability to estimate the fault locations quickly and accurately.
The preparation of repeatable and uniformly reconstituted soil specimens up to the specified conditions is an essential requirement for the laboratory tests. In this study for large samples replication, the simultaneous usage of the traveling pluviation and curtain raining technique is used to develop a new method, called the curtain travelling pluviator (CTP). This simple and cost effective system is based on the air pluviation approach, whilst reducing the sample production time, can reproduce uniform samples with relative densities ranging from 25% to 96%. In order to investigate the resulting suitability and uniformity from the proposed method, a series of tests is performed. The effect of curtain traveling velocity, curtain width, drop height, and flow rate on the parameters of the sample is thoroughly investigated. Increase in the curtain velocity and drop height leads to the increase in relative density for the sand specimen. Increase in curtain width typically resulted in the reduction of relative density. Test results reveal that the terminal drop height for the sand specimen in this study is more than 500 mm. Relative density contour lines are presented that can be utilized in optimizing the drop height and curtain width parameters. Sample uniformity in the vertical and horizontal orientation is investigated through the sampling containers. Increasing relative density tends to result in the higher sample repeatability and uniformity.

The objective of this study is to develop a method that is able to realize autonomous traveling for tractor-like robot on the slope terrain. A neural network (NN) and genetic algorithms (GAs) have been used for resolving nonlinear problems in this system. The NN is applied to create a vehicle simulator that is capable to describe the motion of the tractor robot on the slope, while it is impossible by the common dynamics way. Using this vehicle simulator, a control law optimized by GAs was established and installed in the computer to control the steering wheel of tractor robot. The autonomous traveling carried out on a 14-degree slope had initial successful results.

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) which has been well known to solve continuous problems can be applied to discrete combinatorial problems. Several DPSO (Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithms have been proposed to solve discrete problems such as traveling salesman, vehicle routing, and flow shop scheduling problems. They are different in representation of position and velocity vectors, operation mechanisms for updating vectors. In this paper, the performance of 5 DPSOs is analyzed by applying to traditional Traveling Salesman Problems. The experiment shows that DPSOs are comparable or superior to a genetic algorithm (GA). Also, hybrid PSO combined with local optimization (i.e., 2-OPT) provides much improved solutions. Since DPSO requires more computation time compared with GA, however, the performance of hybrid DPSO is not better than hybrid GA.

The time-dependent frequency and energy of free vibration of the spagetti problem, that is the axially moving continuum with time-varying length, are investigated. Exact expressions for the natural frequency and time-varying vibration energy are derived by dealing with traveling waves. The vibration period increases with increasing length, but the free vibration energy decreases. When the string undergoes retraction, the vibration energy increases with time. The free response of the time-varying string is represented by superposing two traveling waves.

This paper provides a new method of initializing neurons used in self-organizing neural networks and sequencing input nodes for applying to Euclidean traveling salesman problem. We use a general property that in any optimal solution for Euclidean traveling salesman problem, vertices located on the convex hull are visited in the order in which they appear on the convex hull boundary. We composite input nodes as number of convex hulls and initialize neurons as shape of the external convex hull. And then adapt input nodes as the convex hull unit and all convex hulls are adapted as same pattern, clockwise or counterclockwise. As a result of our experiments, we obtain l∼3 % improved solutions and these solutions can be used for initial solutions of any global search algorithms.
Time-dependent period and energy of free vibration of a string, whose length varies with time at a constant rate, are investigated by a traveling wave method. When the string length is increased, the vibration period increase, but the free vibration energy decrease with time. However, when the string undergoes retraction, the vibration energy increases with time. String tension together with non-zero instantaneous velocity at the moving boundary results in energy variation. Analytical solutions by the traveling wave method are compared with previous results using the perturbation method and Kotera's approach.

Recent progresses in the live electrooptic imaging (LEI) technique are reviewed with emphasis on its functionality of real-time visual accesses to traveling electric waves in the GHz range. Together with the principles, configurations, and procedures for the visual observation experiments by an LEI camera system, the following results are described as examples indicating the wide application ranges of the technique; Ku-band waves on arrayed planar antennas, waves on a Gb/s-class digital circuit, W-band waves traveling both in slab-waveguide modes and aerially, backward-traveling wave along composite right/left-handed transmission line, and, waves in monolithic microwave integrated circuit module case.
