  • Paint is used as top coat in Automobile Refinishing that is divided into 1K paint of base type and 2K paint of urethane type. after using 1K paint, it can be reusable. However 2K paint is not available that is mixed a certain amount of base with hardner, so 2K paint has to be used all at a time or discarded the rest. This study covered that colored Urethane paint and colorless urethane paint in top coating process of AR. Top coat urethane paint is divided into colored urethane paint and transparent urethane paint like clear coat. Colored urethane paint is used for paint that contains resin, pigment, solvent and additives. It is color such as black and white. While transparent urethane paint is used for paint that contains resin, solvent and additives. Urethane paint has a paint system that cur after several hours of mixing base and hardner. By a paint technician of a field and empirical data, we can also recognize that according to worker's paint style and experience, although he or she paint same car model and area, paint use of one's is different. There aren't guidelines workers refer to about paint use by car models and work scope because ARP works various car models that are in different color, size and area. After using urethane paint, the rest of paint has come, and there are highs and lows in paint use each time he or she works. Therefore, this study suggest a basic guideline to use paint efficiently and regularly by understanding area, the type of work, and paint use that are appropriate for each car model and regardless of workers and work scopes in AR.

  • Multi-wire busbar-type bifacial n-type Si solar cells have been used for the fabrication of monofacial and bifacial photovoltaic (PV) module, where bifacial module was equipped with transparent backsheet while monofacial module was prepared using white backsheet. The comparison of six-day accumulated power production obtained from outdoor test under gray cement ground conditions using 60cell monofacial and bifacial PV modules suggested the bifacial gain of over 20% could be achieved. Furthermore, the outdoor evaluation tests of bifacial modules with different ground conditions such as cement (reference), green paint, white paint and green artificial grass, were performed. It turned out white paint showed the best albedo and thus the highest power production, while green paint and artificial grass showed less power generation than cement ground.

  • Metallic paint is one of the most widely used coating in automotive, cosmetic and other applications because of its well-known ability to give a product realistic look which creates widespread consumer appeal. But, this coating has complicated subsurface structure which includes pigments, flakes, and transparent clearcoat. Though various analytic reflection models are available to simulate appearance of various surfaces, it is difficult to select an appropriate reflection model with faithful parameters for simulating this coating due to the complex subsurface structure of metallic paints. This paper presents a framework for accurate modeling of metallic coating by determining an appropriate reflection model among various existing BRDF (Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function) models. The selection of the appropriate model is achieved by measuring BRDF of various metallic paint samples using a BRDF measuring device i.e. gonioreflectometer and fitting an existing model to the measured data. Then, this model is effectively realized by rendering metallic painted surfaces. We believe that this framework can serve as a guide for those who wants to render metallic painted surfaces accurately with analytic BRDF model without expending time on extracting BRDF data using gonioreflectometer from real metallic paint sample.

  • Gachiljang(假漆匠), along with Jinchiljang(眞漆匠), is an important craftsman who cannot be left out during the finishing process of wooden furniture and wooden buildings during the Joseon Dynasty. The current definition of Gachiljang does not properly explain the nature and role of Gachiljang. In many related terminology dictionaries, Gachiljang is defined as "artisan who dose the base paintwork of Dancheong." But an analysis of the Joseon Dynasty's Uigwe(儀軌) shows that Gachiljang appears frequently in works that are not related to Dancheong at all. Therefore the current definition seems to be inaccurate and need to be revised. Gachiljang is a name that contrasts with Jinchiljang, and he makes and paints Myongyu(明油). Just as Jinchiljang uses not only lacquer but also various pigments to paint colorful lacquer, Gachiljang also uses various pigments to decorate buildings or furniture in a fancy way and then finishs with a transparent paint. Even in the Dancheong(丹靑) work of the building, all the base painting and finish coating work will be in charge of Gachiljang, except for the paintings performed by the Whawon(畫員) or the Whasa(畫師).

  • Color is an attribute of visual perception and can be an important factor that affects the preference of customers toward bamboo and wood products. Solar radiation can discolor bamboo surfaces and initiate cracking. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of an ultraviolet (UV)-protective coating on the photodiscoloration of untreated and heat-treated Phyllostachys bambusoides bamboo surfaces. Artificial UVA radiators are set at a UVA irradiance of 2,000 W/m2 to accelerate the aging of the outer surfaces of hot-air-dried and heat-treated bamboo samples. Half of the samples are coated with transparent UV-protective paint. As the UVA radiation progresses, the discoloration prevention efficiency (DPE) of the UV-protective coating on all samples decreases gradually. The DPEs of the hot-air-dried samples are estimated to be 31.4% and 18.8% after 21 and 72 hours of artificial UVA radiation, respectively. The heat-treated samples exhibit similar trends (29.0% after 21 hours and 10.3% after 72 hours). Recoating the UV-protective paint periodically every six months is expected to minimize the discoloration of the bamboo's outer surface.

  • In this study, LiDAR-detective black material is synthesized by recycling silicon sludge (SS) that is generated from semiconductor manufacturing process, and its recognition is confirmed using two types of LiDAR sensors (MEMS and Rotating LiDAR). In detail, metal impurities on the surface of SS is removed, followed by coating of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and subsequent chemical reduction to obtain SS-derived black TiO2 (SS/bTiO2) material. As-prepared SS/bTiO2 is mixed with transparent paint to prepare hydrophilic black paints and applied to a glass substrate using a spray gun. SS/bTiO2-based paint shows similar blackness (L*=15.7) compared to commercial carbon black-based paint, and remarkable NIR reflectance (26.5R%, 905nm). Furthermore, MEMS and Rotating LiDAR have successfully detected the SS/bTiO2-based paint. This is attributed to the occurrence of high reflection of light at the interface between the black TiO2 and the silicon sludge according to the Fresnel's reflection principle. Hence, the new application field to effectively recycle silicon sludge generated in the semiconductor manufacturing process has been presented.

  • The greenhouse hulk curing and drying system utilizing the direct solar energy was tested to see how much fuel could be saved for curing flue-cured tobacco at the Daegu Experiment Station, Korea Tobacco Research Institute (North latitute: 35$^{\circ}$49'), in 1979. The structure consists of transparent fiberglass exterior, polyurethan boards covered with galvanized iron as the heat absorbers and insulation boards, air duct in which the air is introduced to the furnace room of bulk curing barn, and gravel heat storage system. All exterior surface of heat absorbers, air duct, and gravels were coated with black paint. The air temperature and total radiation were 20.5 to 35.5$^{\circ}C$ and 1004.2 to 1436.2 cal/$\textrm{cm}^2$ during the 3 replicated curing tests, respectively. The greenhouse bulk curing and drying system was able to cut fuel consumption by 25 percent compared with the conventional bulk curing barn. The maximum temperatures for the top absorber and the inlet air of the system were 89$^{\circ}C$ and 64$^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the average temperature of inlet air was higher than that of conventional one by 18$^{\circ}C$.

  • Infrared emissivity is one of the most important factors for the temperature measurement by infrared thermography. Although the infrared emissivity of an object can be measured from the ratio of blackbody and the object, at room temperature it is practically difficult to measure the value due to the background effects. Hence, quantitative reflectance of bare steel plate and the surface of coating was measured by FT-IR spectroscopy and emissivity was calculated from this. The emissivity of polished bare steel surface was from 0.06 to 0.10 and the value for the unpolished bare steel can not be achieved because optical characteristics changes of surface roughness induces erroneous results. Emissivity of transparent paint coated steel was from 0.50 to 0.84. Depends on the IR absorption regions, which is a characteristic value of the coating, emissivity changes. This study suggests surface condition of material, thickness, roughness et cetra are important factor for IR optical characteristics. Emissivity measurement by reflection method is useful technique to be applied for metal and it with coating applied on the surface. The range of experimental errors of temperature can be narrowed by the application of infrared thermography from the measured thermal emissivity.

  • In this study, silicon sludge generated in semiconductor manufacturing process is recycled and applied as materials for pigments and paints. In detail, metallic impurities are removed from silicon sludge to obtain plate-like silicon sludge powder (SW-sludge), which is then coated with titanium dioxide via sol-gel method (TCS-sludge). SW-sludge and TCS-sludge are dispersed in hydrophilic transparent varnish and sprayed onto glass substrates to observe the possibility for the application as materials for pigments and paints. Notably, the applicability of TCS-sludge-based paint is improved compared to SW-sludge-based paint after the titanium dioxide coating. Moreover, the color of TCS-sludge-based paint turns into white. Accordingly, it is confirmed that the applicability and hydrophilicity are improved by the presence of outer titanium dioxide layer. In this regard, it is expected that the recycled TCS-sludge may be a future material for the application as pigments and paints.
