In this paper, FSTL (Field Sound Transmission Loss) measured in a mock-up simulating ship cabins is studied. A mock-up is built by using 6 mm steel plate, and two identical cabins are made where 25 mm or 50 mm sandwich panel is used to construct wall and ceiling inside the steel structure. Various wall panels and ceilings are tested, where effects of wall and ceiling panel thickness, and presence of a unit toilet on FSTL are investigated. It is found that the effect of unit toilet on FSTL is at most 1 dB. From the comparison of FSTL for panels of the same thickness of 50 mm, it is observed that panel having inside air cavity of 10 mm shows higher STL than that of the panel without air cavity. Comparison of FSTL for panels of 50 mm and 25 mm thickness shows that dependency on surface density predicted by mass law is not observed. The sandwich panels act as a mass-spring system, which shows a resonant mode that cannot be explained by the mass law. It is also found that STL from laboratory test is higher than FSTL by 5- 10 dB, which can be explained by flanking structure-borne noise transmission path such as ceiling, floor and corridor-facing wall.

Measurements of surface resistance ($R_s$) of high temperature superconductor (HTS) films with accuracy are essential for microwave applications of HTS materials. In using the dielectric resonator method, uncertainties in the unloaded quality factor of the resonator cause significant errors in the measured $R_s$ of HTS films. We compare the Rs values of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ films calculated from the $Q_0$ as determined from the Lorentzian fit with that from the $Q_0$ as determined from the S-parameter circle-fit at temperatures between 15 K and 77 K. The two sets of values appeared to differ by 5%, 7%, 6%, and 11% at temperatures of 15, 60, 70, and 77 K, respectively, from each other, implying that careful error analysis needs to be performed in obtaining the $R_s$ of HTS films by using the Lorentzian-fit method, with the ones determined from the S-parameter circle-fit used as the reference.

For present investigation Fe/MgO/Fe/Co multilayer stack is grown on Si substrate using e-beam evaporation in ultrahigh vacuum. This stack is irradiated perpendicularly by 120 MeV $Ag^{8+}$ at different fluences ranging from $1{\times}10^{11}$ to $1{\times}10^{13}ions/cm^2$ in high vacuum using 15UD Pelletron Accelerator at Inter University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi. Magnetic measurements carried out on pre and post irradiated stacks show significant changes in the shape of perpendicular hysteresis which is relevant with previous observation of re-orientation of magnetic moment along the direction of ion trajectory. However increase in plane squareness may be due to the modification of interface structure of stacks. X-ray reflectivity measurements show onset of interface roughness and interface mixing. X-ray diffraction measurements carried out using synchrotron radiation shows amorphous nature of MgO and Co layer in the stack. Peak corresponding body centered Fe [JCPDS-06-0696] is observed in X-ray diffraction pattern of pre and post irradiated stacks. Peak broadening shows granular nature of Fe layer. Estimated crystallite size is $22{\pm}1nm$ for pre-irradiated stack. Crystallite size first increases with irradiation then decreases. Structural quality of these stacks was further studied using transmission electron microscopic measurements. Thickness from these measurements are 54, 36, 23, 58 and 3 nm respectively for MgO, Fe, MgO, Fe+Co and Au layers in the stack. These measurements envisage poor crystallinity of different layers. Interfaces are not clear which indicate mixing at interface. With increase fluence mixing and diffusion was increased in the stack. X-ray absorption spectroscopic measurements carried out on these stacks show changes of Fe valence state after irradiation along with change of O(2p)-metal (3d) hybridized state. Valence state change predicts oxide formation at interface which causes enhanced in-plane magnetization.
The most important issue for successful deployment of IPTV service is the service quality. In this paper, we first choose critical quality metrics belonging to each layer of IPTV service transmission architecture and then analyze the relation between the quality parameters. For this purpose, we implement a test network that emulates the most practical environment in which IPTV service is provided and repeat measurements on the test network for the chosen metrics. Based on the analysis result, it is shown that packet losses have greater effect on the video quality of IPTV service comparing to delay and jitter.
Nanocrystalline semiconductor film electrodes have been prepared by sintering three different sizes of TiO₂ nanoparticle sols on conducting indium-tin-oxide (ITO) glass substrate. The electrochemical and photoelectrochemical properties of the prepared electrodes were comparatively investigated. The particle sizes, surface morphologies and crystallinities of the films were studied by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Cyclic voltammetry and capacitance measurements in the dark implies the formation of depletion layer in the semiconductor films which was usually neglected in the previous studies and shows that flat band potential ($E_{fb}$
In this study, Pt/Pd (1.1), PtPd (2:1) and PtPd (3:1) binary catalysts and Pt/Ru/Pd (5:4:1) ternary catalyst were designed. The catalysts were synthesized by impregnation method using $NaBH_4$ as a reducing agent. A good catalyst for methanol oxidation requires low on-set potential, stable durability and low activation energy. In order to investigate the catalytic activity for the methanol oxidation, electrochemical measurements such as cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry were peformed in sulfuric acid with/without methanol solution. In order to calculate the activation energy of the reaction, electrochemical measurements were also tested at different temperatures. For investigation of the structural analysis such as particle size and alloying, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analysis were used. In order to identify the role of the Pd and to determine the composition of the surface of the Pt/Pd nanoparticles, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis was investigated. The XPS spectra of Pd showed that Pd appears only as a metallic state in the binary catalysts. The chemical states of Pt in PtPd catalysts are both metallic and oxidative. Polarization curves and power density data were obtained by testing the DMFC unit cell performance of PtPd and PtRuPd catalysts. These data showed that Pt/Pd (2:1) and Pt/Ru/Pd (5:4:1) have better performance than Pt and Pt/Ru, respectively.
Measurements of bubble size and distribution in the surface layer of the sea, wind speed, and variation of ocean environments were made continually over a four-day period in an experiment conducted in the South Sea of Korea during 17-20 September 2007. Theoretical background of bubble population model indicates that bubble population is a function of the depth, range and wind speed and bubble effects on sound speed shows that sound speed varies with frequency. Observational evidence exhibited that the middle size bubble population fit the model very well, however, smaller ones can not follow the model probably due to their short lifetime. Meanwhile, there is also a hysteresis effect of void fraction. Observational evidence also indicates that strong changes in sound speed are produced by the presence of swarms of micro bubbles especially from 7 kHz to 50 kHz, and calculation results are consistent with the measured data in the high frequency band, but inconsistent in the low frequency band. Based on the measurements of the sound speed and high frequency transmission configuration in the bubble layer, we present an estimation of underwater acoustic channel capacity in the bubble layer.
We performed nonlinear transmission measurements and quantum-chemical calculations on dithienothiophene(DTT)-based molecules to gain insight into the effect of acceptor and donor groups on two-photon absorption(TPA) properties. The TPA intensity showed dispersion characteristics of the single-photon absorption spectrum. When the molecules included an asymmetric donor-acceptor pair, the single- and two-photon absorption maximum wavelengths were red-shifted more than when the molecules had a symmetric donor-donor structure. We interpreted this result as indicating that the $S_2$ state plays the dominating role in the absorption process of molecules with a symmetric structure. The experimental TPA ${\delta}$ values at the absorption peak wavelength showed a dependence on the structural variations. We found the self-consistent force-field theory and Hartree-Fock Hamiltonian with single configuration interaction formalism to be valid for evaluating TPA ${\delta}$. Although the quantum-chemical calculations slightly underestimated the experimental ${\delta}$ values obtained from nonlinear trans -mission measurements, they reasonably predicted the dependence of the ${\delta}$ value on the structural variations. We confirmed the role of molecular symmetry by observing that donor-donor substituted structure gave the highest experimental and theoretical TPA ${\delta}$ values and that the donor-acceptor substituted structure showed a greater red-shift in the TPA absorption maximum wavelength. Overall, the theoretical ${\delta}$ values of DTT-based molecules were in the order of $10^{-46}\;cm^4{\cdot}s{\cdot}photon^{-1}$ and are higher than that of AF-50 by nearly two orders of magnitude.

This research suggested a method by which the driver space can be designed to best accommodate the driver's anthropometric characteristics. Three-dimensional manikins and a variable seating buck were developed and used for this study. Manikins were designed with 18 links comprising the 95th percentile male and 5th percentile female data. The seating buck was built to create various driving environments using the distance and the height between the H-point(hip pivot) of the seat and the AHP(accelerator heel point), the angle of the back rest, the angle of the steering wheel, the vertical distance of the steering wheel, and the location of the T.G.S.(transmission gear shift) knob. Measurements of each variable were collected with a coordinate measuring machine by positioning the 3-D manikin under various combinations of the design factors of the seating buck, which was constructed based on mid-size domestic passenger cars. The data were then converted to the joint angles of the driver. The combination of the measurements for an optimal driving environment is suggested by applying sets of the joint angles at which the driver feels comfortable.

This paper presents an accurate method for measuring the ground resistance in powered grounding system. Most of substations and electric power equipments are interconnected to an extensive grounding network of overhead ground wires, neutral conductors of transmission lines, cable shields, and etc. The parasitic effects due to circulating ground currents and ground potential rise make a significant error in measuring the ground resistance. The test current transition method was proposed to reduce the effects of stray ground currents, ground potential rise and harmonic components in measurements of the ground resistance for powered grounding systems. The instrumental error of the test current transition method is decreased as the ratio of the test current signal to noise(S/N) increases. It was found from the test results that the proposed measuring method of the ground resistance is more accurate than the conventional fall-of-potential method or low-pass filter method, and the measuring error was less than 3[%]when S/N is 10.
