A Multi-objective Placement of Phasor Measurement Units Considering Observability and Measurement Redundancy using Firefly Algorithm

  • This paper proposes a multi-objective optimal placement method of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) in large electric transmission systems. It is proposed for minimizing the number of PMUs for complete system observability and maximizing measurement redundancy of the buses, simultaneously. The measurement redundancy of the bus indicates that number of times a bus is able to monitor more than once by PMUs set. A high level of measurement redundancy can maximize the system observability and it is required for a reliable power system state estimation. Therefore, simultaneous optimizations of the two conflicting objectives are performed using a binary coded firefly algorithm. The complete observability of the power system is first prepared and then, single line loss contingency condition is added to the main model. The practical measurement limitation of PMUs is also considered. The efficiency of the proposed method is validated on IEEE 14, 30, 57 and 118 bus test systems and a real and large- scale Polish 2383 bus system. The valuable approach of firefly algorithm is demonstrated in finding the optimal number of PMUs and their locations by comparing its performance with earlier works.

  • The outer race of CV(constant velocity) joint is an important load-supporting automotive part, which transmits torque between the transmission gear box and driving wheel. The outer race is difficult to forge because its shape is very complicated and the required dimensional tolerances are very small. Traditional warm and cold forging methods have their own limitations to produce such a complex shaped part; warm forging requires complex system with relatively higher manufacturing cost, while cold forging is not applicable to materials with limited formability. Therefore, multistage forging may be advantageous to produce complex shaped parts. In order to build a multistage forging system, it is necessary to characterize mechanical properties in response to system design parameters such as temperature, forging speed and reduction. For the analysis of formability of multistage forging process, finite element method(FEM) has been used for the process analysis. As a model case, a constant velocity (CV) joint forging process is analyzed by FEM, since CV joint has a complex shape and also its required dimensional tolerances are very tight. The data acquired by FEM is compared with operational forging data obtained from an industrial production line. Based on this comparative analysis, multistage forging process for CV joints is proposed.

초고온 MEMS용 TiN/3C-SiC의 Ohmic 특성 (Ohmic Characteristics of TiN/3C-SiC for High-temperature MEMS Applications)

  • In this study, Ohmic contacts make on 3C-SiC using TiN. Ohmic contact resistivity of TiN/3C-SiC was evaluated. Specific contact resistance was calculated by Circular-TLM(transmission line model) method and physics properties were measured using XRD, SEM, respectively. TiN contact is stable at high temperatures and a good diffusion barrier material. The TiN/3C-SiC contacts are thermally stable to annealing temperatures up to $1000^{\circ}C$. The TiN thin-film depostied on 3C-SiC substraes have good electrical properties. Therefore, the TiN/3C-SiC contact can be usefully applied for high-temperature MEMS applications over $500^{\circ}C$.

이동체 통신용 안테나에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Antenna for Mobile Communication)

  • 본 논문에서 MSA(Microstrip Antenna)의 변형인 QMSA(Quarter-wavelength Microstrip Antenna)에 용량을 장하한 미소 루프 구조와 용량을 장하시킨 부분에서 방사하는 개구 구조에 의한 합성 전계 안테나를 제안 하였다. 그리고 합성 전제 특성은 계산된 값과 실험 값이 양호하게 일치함을 보였다. 제안된 안테나는 그라운드판과 방사 소자의 폭이 같은 소형화된 안테나이다. 설계.제작된 안테나는 동작 주파수 1.5GHz에서 수직.수평 편파를 각각 수신할 수 있다. 그리므로 이 안테나는 무선 전화를 위한 소형화된 안테나로써 이용할 수 있고, 실내 통신을 위해 아주 유용하다. 또한, 전송 선로 모델의 안테나 등가 회로는 정확한 공진 주파수를 찾기 위해 설계되었고, 리턴로스 값을 계산했다. 계산된 값은 실험값과 양호하게 일치되었다.

실내 멀티홉 VLC환경에서 디밍을 적용한 파워 성능 비교 (Power Performance Comparison using Dimming in the Indoor Multi-hop VLC Environment)

  • 본 논문에서는 멀티 홉 VLC 환경에서 디밍 제어를 이용한 각 변조 방식의 전력 성능을 분석 하였다. 성능을 분석하기 위해서 VLC기반 실내 멀티 홉 시스템을 구성하였으며, OPPM과 VPPM의 두 가지 변조 방식 기법을 적용하였다. 시뮬레이션은 송신 전력과 수신 전력을 고려하여 각 변조기법의 dimming 제어 및 홉 수에 따라서 수행하였다. 그 결과, 변조에 따른 송신 전력 및 수신 전력에서, dimming이 증가함에 따라, OPPM은 VPPM보다 적은 전력 성능을 갖으며, 수신 전력 대 홉 수 및 dimming이 50 % 일 때, 홉 수가 증가하고 거리가 길수록 VPPM 및 OPPM의 수신 전력은 급속히 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

Parametric investigation of a hybrid vehicle's achievable fuel economy with optimization based energy management strategy

  • The hybrid electric powertrain is a robust solution that allows for major improvements in both fuel economy and emission reduction. In the present study, a through-the-road hybrid vehicle model with an electric motor driving the rear axle and an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) driving the front axle has been constructed. We then present a systematic method for the determination of a real time applicable optimal Energy Management Strategy (EMS) for a hybrid road vehicle. More precisely, we compare the performance of rule-based EMS strategies to an optimization-based strategy, namely ECMS (Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy). The comparison is conducted in parallel with a parameterization of the size of the internal combustion engine and the implementation of a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that allows following the line of best fuel economy. For the FTP-75 driving cycle, the constrained engine On-off control algorithm is shown to offer a 28% improvement potential of fuel consumption compared to the conventional internal combustion engine while the ECMS strategy achieves an improved potential of nearly 33%.

Shear Wave Velocity in Unconsolidated Marine Sediments of the Western Continental Margin, the East Sea

  • Shear wave velocity was measured and grain size analysis was conducted on two core samples obtained in unconsolidated marine sediments of the western continental margin, the East Sea. A pulse transmission technique based on the Hamilton frame was used to measure shear wave velocity. Duomorph ceramic bender transducer-receiver elements were used to generate and detect shear waves in sediment samples. Time delay was calculated by changing the sample length from the transducer-receiver element. Time delay is 43.18 μs and shear wave velocity (22.49 m/s) is calculated from the slope of regression line. Shear wave velocities of station 1 and 2 range from 8.9 to 19.0 m/s and from 8.8 to 22 mis, respectively. Shear wave velocities with depth in both cores are qualitatively in agreement with the compared model〔1〕, although the absolute value is different. The sediment type of two core samples is mud (mean grain size, 8-9Φ). Shear wave velocity generally increases with sediment depth, which is suggesting normally consolidated sediments. The complicated variation of velocity anisotropy with depth at station 2 is probably responsible for sediment disturbance by possible gas effect.

대칭형 QMSA에 관한 연구 (A Study on a Symmetric QMSA)

  • 본 논문에서 QMSA에 전기력선의 제한이 없도록 용량을 장하한 대칭형 QMSA(Quarter-Wavelegth Microstrip Antenna)를 제안했다. 제안된 안테나는 용량을 장하하기 위해서 QMSA에 오른쪽 평행 평판을 구성한 비대칭 QMSA보다 개선된 대역폭을 얻었다. 설계·제작된 안테나는 동작 주파수가 2.13GHz에서 수직 수평 편파를 수신할 수 있다. 그러므로 이 안테나는 무선 전화를 위한 소형화된 안테나로 이용할 수 있고 실내 통신을 위해 아주 유용하다. 전송 선로 모델의 안테나 등가 회로는 정확한 공진 주파수를 찾기 위해 설계되었고, 반사손실 값을 계산했다. 계산된 값은 실험값과 양호하게 일치되었다.

개방단말 동축선 프로브로 측정된 마른 모래의 복소 유전율 (Complex Permittivity of Dry Sand Measured by an Open-Ended Coaxial Probe)

  • 자체 설계 및 제작된 개방단말 동축선 프로브를 이용하여 마른 모래의 복소 유전율을 측정하였다. 프로브의 간단한 교정 방안으로 순수한 물에 대해 측정된 반사계수와 수치계산한 반사계수간의 위상차를 모래에 대해 측정된 반사계수의 위상에 뺐다. 그 다음 마른 모래에 대해 측정된 반사계수를 개선된 가상의 동축선 모델에 대입하여 복소 유전율을 환산하였다. 동일한 마른 모래에 대해 측정된 정확한 측정자료와 비교함으로써 본 측정방법의 정확성을 입증하였다.

Wireless Power Transfer System

  • This paper presents a survey of recent wireless power transfer systems. The issue of wireless power transfer is to achieve a highly efficient system with small positioning errors of the facilities setting. Several theories have been presented to obtain precise system design. This paper presents a summary of design theory for short range power transfer systems and detailed formulations based on a circuit model and an array of infinitesimal dipoles. In addition to these theories, this paper introduces a coil array scheme for improving the efficiency for off axis coils. In the microwave range, tightly coupled resonators provide a highly efficient power transfer system. This paper present san-overlay resonator array consisting of half wavelength microstrip line resonators on the substrate with electromagnetically coupled parasitic elements placed above the bottom resonators. The tight couplings between the waveguide and the load resonator give strong power transmission and achieve a highly efficient system, and enables a contact-less power transfer railroad. Its basic theory and a demonstration of a toy vehicle operating with this system are presented. In the last topic of this paper, harmonic suppression from the rectenna is discussed with respect to acircular microstrip antenna with slits and stubs.
