  • The purpose of this study was to trace and identify termilogies recorded im kei lim yu sa. ma(麻), kyun(絹), po(布), je(苧), and je-po(苧布) were included in this study. For the analysis of this research comparative analytical methods was employed. Some significant findings and results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. Text : hemp is called san(麻曰三). The word san of Koryo was derived from Indian sann, san, sana, sunn, 2. Text : Kyun is called jyi or kib(絹曰及). The word jyi(及) of Koryo was from jyi or kib() of Silla. 3. Text : Hemp cloth is called bey(bei), pey(pei), bai(布曰背). Be (베) has two meanings of hemp cloth and cloth in Korean. In the text it is interpreted as hemp cloth. 4. Text : Ramie or China grass is called mar, maw, mao, mu (毛). (苧曰毛). It is considered that the word mau(mo in Korean) (毛) in text is correct and word mau(毛) meaning China grass of Koryho is derived from mah or mak that is an old Egyptian name for flax or linen. The word mau(mo) (毛) of Koryo seems to be a transliteration of mah(or mak) in Korean or a variety of it. 5. Raime cloth or China grass cloth is clalled mau shy (苧布曰毛施). Silmar words to mau shy(毛施) of Koryo were found in Chinese, Manchurian and japanese as well as in Ancient Hebrew.

  • In Korean documents, there are diverse spellings of transliterated foreign loanwords. This fact diminishes the performance of information retrieval systems in that a foreign word can be recognized differently, which is to say, as two or several different words. Thus, information retrieval systems require preprocessing to correct nonstandard loanword spellings prior to searching and recognizing corresponding equivalent words. This paper proposes a method that improves precision and processing efficiency using the Korean alphabet's viable prefix, which prunes a virtual tree from which candidate loanwords are created.

  • This study is concerned with the textile related terminologies of the Chosun period. The purpose of this study was to trace and to examine some textile related terms such as goro, mooruwi, modan, shiok, jal, gaam, and chien. These words were examined and analyzed in terms of the origins, meanings, and neighbouring languages. The results of this research can be summarized as follows: The results of this study revealed that the word goro of the Chosun period was derived from the Chinese ku lo 羅 or (Equations. See Full-text). Korean goro or goroi is a transliteration of the Chinese moolo 霧羅. The word modan 帽緞 was a kind of rich silk fabric. Manchurian kamku 帽緞 was derived from Arabic word kamkha. The word shiok, shiok, shiuk, shiurk, or shiu 시으 means felt in Korean. Similar words to Korean shiok was found in Afro-Asiatic family such as Egyptian, Hebrew, and Assyrians. Egyptian shiu means a seep or a goat. The word jal meaning black sable was found was originated in the Chinese tzuerl 子兒皮, black sable. The word Korean gaam 가암, 가음, was similar to Mongorian k∂m meaning a material. Also Iraq-Arabian xaam meaning raw, unworked, unprocessed, had the same meaning as the Korean gaam. Xaam and gaam have almost the same phonetical sounds. The Korean gaam was derived from the xaam of Iraq-Arabian. Korean chien meaning cloth was derived from the Chinese chyan or chien (Equations. See Full-text).

  • This study is concerned with the slsl 瑟瑟. The identity, origins of the word, kinds, the place of production, and the sues of he sl sl were examined. The world sl sl means the sapphire. The Chinese word se se(seh seh), 瑟瑟 was derived from the Hebrew word, she she meaning marble. The use, meaning and the phonetic value of the sl sl between the Chinese and the Hebrew were the same each other. It indicates that the Chinese word se se(seh seh) was the transliteration of the Hebrew word she she. The sl sl were produced in the Middle East Asia and the sl sl used in ancient China was mainly originated from the Middle East Asia. The sl sl of Silla was also the sapphire and it was an article of the imported goods from the Middle East Asia. Women of Jin gol(true bone) were not use the sl sl as a material to decorate for their combs and headdresses. Also women of yuk du pum (six du pum) were prohibited to use the sl sl as a material for their combs. It indicates that the privilege to use the sl sl for a comb and in a head dress was restricted to the queen in Silla and it remained as a symbol of nobility and dignity.

  • As to the structure of author tables for the Korean libraries using the Korean alphabet Hangul for filing, no other system is understood more relevant to author notations than the analytico-synthetic system. The Korean character consists of syllables respectively dividual into 'consonant+vowel' or 'consonant+vowel+consonant,' with the first element a consonant and the second a vowel. When these elements are synthesized with figure representation, they make an enumerative two-figure table. Individualizing and assigning, therefore, are done without listing many en-tries on the table or looking up notations in ready-made enumerative author tables. We still do not have general agreements in form of entry, reading of the Japanese and Chinese names, transliteration of foreign words, and filing system. What is more, so flexible and hospitable a notation system should be adopted as to meet the anticipated changes. The writer introduces an author notation system that could make 150,000 divisions by combinating figures, thus making it possible to endure changes through readjustments. It is considered effective, convenient, and efficacious for individualization.

  • Yumentingzheng, which records the contents of the Qing dynasty's discussions with his subjects, is an important document like the Annals of Joseon in Korea. This paper describes the method and steps for big data analysis of Yumentingzheng written in Manchu alphabet. In big data analysis of documents written in Manchu characters, there are many problems that need to be solved in advance, and research on these should be preceded. In this paper, a method of big data analysis using the R language was proposed in the stage where the text written in Manchurian characters was transliterated into Latin characters through a preliminary study to be conducted in the future. In the proposed method, Apkai method was adopted for the transliteration of Wumentingzheng, and the results of big data analysis were presented using the text of Weiwenqiju.

  • In this paper, we propose a modified unsupervised linear alignment algorithm for building an aligned corpus. The original algorithm inserts null characters into both of two aligned strings (source string and target string), because the two strings are different from each other in length. This can cause some difficulties like the search space explosion for applications using the aligned corpus with null characters and no possibility of applying to several machine learning algorithms. To alleviate these difficulties, we modify the algorithm not to contain null characters in the aligned source strings. We have shown the usability of our approach by applying it to different areas such as Korean-English back-trans literation, English grapheme-phoneme conversion, and Korean morphological analysis.
