Rubber wheel-type AGT has two major kinds of bogie; one is the bogie type and the other and passenger loads. This paper deals with the statics analysis for two types of bogie frame subjected to combined external forces, as well as independent ones specified in UIC 515-4. Furthermore, the dynamics analysis is performed under vibrational loading conditions so as to compare dynamic characteristics, Numerical results by using commercial packages, Ⅰ-DEAS and NASTRAN show that maximum stresses do not exceed the yielding level of material used for both bogies. From an overall viewpoint of strength, the bogie type turns out to be superior to the steering type except the case of a lateral loading. It is also observed that the steering type shows a be stiffened. It is strongly anticipated that vibrational fatigue analysis should be carried out under realistic loading conditions closely matching to situations such as running surface and lateral clearances along the guideway.
Recently, the bogie frame weight of Light Rail Transit system has been reduced in order to save energy and materials. However, this light weighted vehicle structure is very important to verify the fatigue strength at the development stage. Bogie system consists of bogie frame, suspensions, wheel-sets, braking system and transmission system. Among these components, the bogie frame is most significant component subjected to the whole vehicle and passenger loads. In this study, the bogie frame for the New LRT power car is evaluated to the static and fatigue strength. And the evaluation method is used the LRT Performance Test Standards Specification throughout the FEM analysis and static load test. The static and fatigue test results for the LRT bogie frame of power car has been appeared very safety and stable for the design load conditions.

Separate transportation card readers that record the amount of transfer volume occurring during movement in-between lines within the metropolitan railway transfer stations do not exist. This research proposes a model to estimate passenger transit movements in transfer stations that adequately reproduces characteristics arising during a transfer trip. The model used in this study assumes that passengers adopt transfer behaviors that minimize their generalized costs during transfer trips. Further, two measures are sought in order to reflect attributes of the metropolitan railway. The first is that similar paths connect origin and destination stations. For this, the M-Similar Paths method is applied to the model to identify the similar paths that arise. The second is that passengers perceive increasing number of transfers as additional transfer costs, which is reflected by means of the Stepwise Transfer Coefficient. Two case studies of metropolitan railway are used to propose measures for analysis of transfer trips. Twenty directional transit phenomena are reproduced for Sindorim railway station. Aggregate directional transit(A), aggregate inter-line transit(B), and B/A are calculated on a percentage basis for 33 metropolitan railway transfer stations, and using this, the functional role of transfers is explored.

The core of the transportation service, so-called Mobility 4.0 is the flexibility of the entire mobility and its implementation. By doing so, the most essential element is to build a platform to link a supply and a demand simultaneously. In other word, a comprehensive analytical framework is to be set with a data repository which can be periodically updated. With such circumstances, the entire trip chain including pedestrian movements is required to be thoroughly investigated and constructed at the viewpoint of the intermodal transit station. A few studies, however, have been attempted. In this study, the comprehensive analytical framework with the integrated mobility at intermodal transit station was proposed, which consisted of the three modules; 1) Data Repository Extracting from Smart Card DB, 2) Framework of Analyzing Integrated Mobility, and 3) Interpretation of the Integrated Mobility with GIS information and the other factors. A case study with the seven railway stations (Sadang, Sindorom, Samseong, Gwanghwanoon, Gangnam, Jamsil, Seoul Nat'l Univ. of Education) was conducted. The stations of the case study were clustered by the three groups with the statistical ground, and it is most likely to understand the effect of a variety of factors and a comprehensive data-driven analyses with the entire trip stages.

In Seoul and most metropolitan cities, urban trains are delayed due to high congestion during commute times. The delay effect of passengers boarding and disembarking is also significant. In this study, a wide passenger door system was developed as a way to improve the scheduled speed of urban trains by decreasing the passengers' flow time. The door size was defined experimentally to shorten the entrance time. The optimum door size was also determined to improve the stop precision performance of the train while considering the interference effect with peripheral devices. Because the change in door size changes the structural characteristics of the vehicle, the structural stability of a train was analyzed numerically. A prototype of the wide door system was made, and the proposed design was verified using functional and endurance tests. The systematic development process can be used as design data for door size definition and system production when applying a wide door to improve the scheduled speed.
The new transit fare in the Seoul Metropolitan is basically determined based on the distance-based fare system (DBFS). The total fare in DBFS consists of three parts- (1) basic fare, (2) transfer fare, and (3) extra fare. The fixed amount of basic fare for each mode is charged when a passenger gets on a mode, and it proceeds until traveling within basic travel distance. The transfer fare may be added when a passenger switches from the present mode to another. The extra fare is imposed if the total travel distance exceeds the basic travel distance, and after that, the longer distance the more extra fare based on the extra-fare-charging rule. This study proposes an algorithm for finding minimum fare route in DBFS. This study first exploits the link-label-based searching method to enable shortest path algorithms to implement without network expansion at junction nodes in inter-modal transit networks. Moreover, the link-expansion technique is adopted in order for each mode's travel to be treated like duplicated links, which have the same start and end nodes, but different link features. In this study, therefore, some notations associated with modes can be saved, thus the existing link-based shortest path algorithm is applicable without any loss of generality. For fare calculation as next steps, a mathematical formula is proposed to embrace fare-charging process using search process of two adjacent links illustrated from the origin. A shortest path algorithm for finding a minimum fare route is derived by converting the formula as a recursive form. The implementation process of the algorithm is evaluated through a simple network test.

This study investigates the one-year performance of the Seoul Metropolitan Rail Transit(SMRT) operation. It intends to provide a basic understanding for railway operation in Seoul Metropolitan Area and thereby for making rational transport policy. The paper is conceptually comprised of four sections; analysis of passenger travel characteristics; SMRT costing and traffic cost function: its operating characteristics in terms of finance and utilization; primary social benefits of SMRT and suggestions. In the first year of operation (1974), the average daily traffic was about 335,000, After the drastic increases of fare in both Subway and KNR rail-lines, the travel volume has been cut by almost 10 percent, though most pronounced on intra-Subway line. The spatial distribution of passengers indicates that travelers use the SMRT line mainly for uninterrupted direct travel toward the CBD. In the prospective costing, the opereting expenses are divided into three groups; those which vary directly with volume; those partially variable with volume; and those entirely unrelated to volume change, With this information, cost function was derived for varying schedules of operation. Primary social benefits of the SMRT are assessed, though preliminary. Account should be taken of the nature of common costs of the SMRT in fare-rate making, especially when much of the operating expenses are accounted for by the fixed costs such that the revenue may not readily turn into break-even. The accounting results of the one-year operation coincide reasonably well with the prospective costing estimates. According to the findings of this annd another travelers' behavior studies, managerial effort would bring more revenue gain to the SMRT than fare increase does, not to speak of greater social benefits by so doing.
This study analyzed passenger access and egress travel patterns related to a Korean regional railway station (Seoul station), then developed a binomial logit model. This model referred to bus and metro mode of access and egress during a national holiday (Chuseok 2009); obtained from transit smart card data. The results showed that 99% of passengers getting access to, or egress from, the regional railway station did so using less than two transfers, and that most passengers were more likely to choose a metro. However, the passengers that made access or egress trips near Seoul Station were more likely to take a bus. From the results of the mode choice model, it was found that the impact of travel time was greater than that of travel cost, in the choices made for both access and egress. Interestingly, the impact of travel time is much greater in choosing the mode of egress.

In Seoul, the subway system has been in use since 1974 and is the most frequently used travel mode accounting for approximately 40% of passenger journeys in 2015. As such the subway system is widely adopted by people and therefore, can have great impacts on their everyday life. However, it is easily noted that transit resources are not distributed spatially uniform, in other words, not all parts of the city gain the same benefits from their networks. This study aims to examine the inequity of spatial distribution of subway networks based on accessibility. Accessibility of subway networks are calculated based on the time-distance between stations and then equity is measured using the Gini index. Resulted map of subway accessibility shows that the benefits are not evenly distributed in Seoul with a pattern of highly accessible core - less accessible periphery areas. Also the subway accessibility network has fairer distribution against the employees' distribution rather than the distribution of general population or possibly transit dependent groups.
This paper investigates the rail service patterns by train class. The emphasis in intercity rail planning is to more efficiently use of existing station facilities. Rail transit operations are affected by the system layout and ridership patterns and by work rules. Operations are also influenced by past practices and the institutional setting. Main factors to decide train service patterns are the location, socioeconomic characteristics, land use and travel demand of the station. In this context, the travel demand of intercity rail station is of crucial significance. Tests on a KTX case shows that train service frequency can be efficiently decreased in weekday to transport the same passenger demand. The work has shown many subjects that need further research including various factors influencing on train frequency. This study serves the railroad authorities in planning and determining business strategy in the increasingly competitive environment of regional rail transport.
