Acute transient synovitis of the hip presents clinically pain and limping. But in the majority of the cases, definite positive findings are not manifest in roentgenogram in its early phase. However radionuclide bone imaging combines with the assessment of vascularization and bone tracer uptake is of great value in solving this diagnostic problem. The materials for this study consisted of 29 children with acute transient synovitis of the hip, characterized by symptoms and physical signs of an arthritis, negative X-ray findings and disappearance of all symptoms and signs within a short period of time. They were twenty males and 9 females and age ranged from 1 to 12 years. We took pelvic reontgenogram in AP and frog-leg views. After intravenous bolus injection of 10 to 15 mCi of $^{99m}Tc-methylene$ diphosphonate, 24 sequential image of the pelvis was taken at 2-second interval for blood flow study. The scintigrams were made using a gamma camera with high resolution parallel hole collimator. Blood pool imaging was obtained at 2 minutes after tracer administration. After 3 hours, static images were taken and then closeup image of the hip using pin-hole collimator was followed. The results were as follows: 1) Bone scintigram was much more sensitive than conventional roentgenogram in diagnosis of acute transient synovitis of the hip. 2) Three-phase imagings showed increased vascular activities in blood pool scintigrams in 96%. 3) Pin-hole imaging showed increased tracer uptake in the regional bones of the hip, par ticularly in the medial aspect of femoral head and acetabulum. 4) We confirmed that three-phase imaging reinforced with pin-hole technique were very useful in diagnose of acute transient synovitis of the hip.

Methodology of predicting steady performance of gas turbine engine from transient test data was explored to develop an economic performance test technique. Discrepancy of transient performance from steady performance was categorized as dynamic, thermal and aerodynamic transient effects. Each effect was mathematically modeled and quantified to provide correction factors for calculating steady performance. Engine performance tests were conducted at Altitude Engine Test Facility of KARI. The influence of engine inlet/outlet condition change on engine performance was corrected firstly, and then steady performance was predicted from the correction factors. The result was compared with steady performance test data. This correction method showed an acceptable level of precision, 3.68% difference of fuel flow.
A new bounce back boundary method of the second order in error is proposed for the lattice Boltzmann fluid simulation. This new method can be used for the arbitrarily irregular lattice geometry of a non-slip boundary. The traditional bounce back boundary condition for the lattice Boltzmann simulation is of the first order in error. Since the lattice Boltzmann method is the second order scheme by itself, a boundary technique of the second order has been desired to replace the first order bounce back method. This study shows that, contrary to the common belief that the bounce back boundary condition is unilaterally of the first order, the second order bounce back boundary condition can be realized. This study also shows that there exists a generalized bounce back technique that can be characterized by a single interpolation parameter. The second order bounce back method can be obtained by proper selection of this parameter in accordance with the detailed lattice geometry of the boundary. For an illustrative purpose, the transient Couette and the plane Poiseuille flows are solved by the lattice Boltzmann simulation with various boundary conditions. The results show that the generalized bounce back method yields the second order behavior in the error of the solution, provided that the interpolation parameter is properly selected. Coupled with its intuitive nature and the ease of implementation, the bounce back method can be as good as any second order boundary method.

The heat transfer and flow measurements on a cylindrical pedestal mounted on a flat surface with a turbulent impinging jet were made. The experiments were made for the jet Reynolds number of Re = 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance of L/d = 2~10, the dimensionless pedestal height of H/D = 0~1.5. Measurements of the surface temperature and the Nusselt number distributions on the plate surface were made using liquid crystal and shroud-transient technique. Flow measurements involve smoke flow visualization and the wall pressure coefficient. The results show that the wall pressure coefficient sharply decreases along the upper surface of the pedestal. However, the pressure increases when the fluid escapes from the pedestal and then collides on the plate surface. The secondary maxima in the Nusselt numbers occur in the region of 1.0 $\leq$ r/d $\leq$ 1.9. Their values for the case of H/D = 0.5 are maximum 80% higher than those for other cases. The formation of the secondary maxima may be attributed to the reattachment of flow on the plate surface which was separated at the edge of the pedestal.
Most dynamic systems have are known to various random properties in excitation and system parameters. In this paper, a procedure for response analysis is proposed for the linear dynamic system with random properties in both excitation and system parameters. The system parameters and responses with random properties are modeled by perturbation technique, and then response analysis is formulated by probabilistic and vibration theories. And probabilistic FEM is also used for the calculation of mean response which is difficult by the proposed response model. As an applicative example, the transient response is considered for systems of single degree of freedom with random mass and spring constant subjected to stationary white-noise excitation and the results are compared to those of numerical simulation.
The present work proposes a simple electrochemical method applicable to any immobilization processes of oxidase using a Clark type oxygen electrode as a base transducer. The present work suggests an optimal immobilization technique among three different methods of glucose oxidase(GOD) onto one side of $37[\mu}$mthick blend membranes, composed o 80% of cellulose triacetate and 20% of polycaprolactone, on the basis of the maximum Michaelis-Menten parameter(Vm) determined by either steady state or transient analyses. The electrode system was made of disk type gold cathode(4mm diameter) and Ag/AgCl anode. One side of the blend membrane was in contact with the cathode surface while the other side was immobilized with GOD either in covalent-bond or cross-linked forms, the latter being covered by $25{\mu}$m thick dialysis membrane of cellulose acetate. The resultant current density was on-line monitored by a potentiostat while glucose level was varied from 1 to 20 mM. The present study shows that direct cross-linking of GOD with glutaraldehyde was mostly preferred for fabrication of glucose sensor, on the basis of resultant kinetic parameters from either steady state or transient analyses.
The heat transfer and flow measurements were made on a cylindrical pedestal mounted on a flat plate with a turbulent impinging air jet. The heat transfer coefficient distributions on the flat plate were measured using the shroud-transient technique and liquid crystal was used to measure the surface temperature. The jet Reynolds number (Re) is 23,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 10, the dimensionless pedestal diameter-to-height (H/D) from 0 to 1.5, the dimensionless 2nd pedestal diameter-to-height ($H/D_2$) from 0 to 0.4 and the distance from the stagnation point to 2nd pedestal (p/D). The results show that for H/D = 0.5 to 1.5, the Nusselt number distributions on the plate surface exhibit a maximum between $r/d\;{\cong}\;1.0$ and 1.5. The presence of the pedestal appears to cause the flow separation and reattachment on the plate surface, which results in the maximum heal transfer coefficient. Also, for p/D = 2.5 and $H/D_2$ = 0.3, the local Nusselt number in the region corresponding to $r/d\;{\cong}\;1.1$ was increased up to 50% compared to that for $H/D_2=0$.

A new technique for detecting parametric faults in mixed signal circuits is proposed Pseudo-random sequence from linear feedback shift register(LFSR) is fed to circuit-under-test (CUT) as stimulus and wavelets are used to compact the transient response under this stimulus into a small number of signature. Wavelet based scheme decomposes the transient response into a number of signal in different frequency bands. Each decomposed signal is compacted into a signature using digital integrator. The digital pulses from LFSR, owing to its pseudo-randomness property, are almost uniform in frequency domain, which generates multi-frequency response when passed through CUT. The effectiveness of this technique is demonstrated in our experimental results.
This paper presents analysis of Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) using Geometry Based Analytical Model (GBAM), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Fourier Series Model (FSM) with curve fitting technique. Further a Transient Analysis (TA) technique is proposed to corroborate the analysis. The main aim of this paper is to give in depth procedure in developing a Geometry Based Analytical Model of Switched Reluctance Machine which is very accurate and simple. The GBAM is developed for the specifications obtained from the manufacturer and magnetizing characteristic of the material used for the construction. Precise values of the parameters like Magneto Motive Force (MMF), flux linkage, inductance and torque are obtained for various rotor positions taking into account the Fringing Effect (FE). The FEA model is developed using MagNet7.1.1 for the same machine geometry used in GBAM and the results are compared with GBAM. Further another analytical model called Fourier Series Model is developed to justify the accuracy of the results obtained by the methods GBAM and FEA model. A prototype of microcontroller based SRM drive system is constructed for validating the analysis and the results are reported.
Frequency is an important operating parameter of a power system. Frequency of a power system remains constant if sum of all the loads plus losses equals total generation in the system. However, the frequency starts to decrease if total generation is less than the sum of loads and tosses. On the other hand, the system frequency increases if total generation exceeds the sum of loads and losses. Electric power systems sustain transient frequency swings whenever the balance between generation and load does not no longer hold. To cope with this Constraints, it requires an accurate and high speedy frequency deviation estimation technique and suitable adjustment to obtain the power system energy balance. The fundamental frequency component of 3-phase signal is first extracted by using an algorithm based on FIR(finite duration impulse response) filter, a phase angle of a voltage. The rate change of the phase angle is used for estimation and speed in its process. Also, to confirm the validity of the proposed algorithm, the simulation results obtained by using EMTP(electro magnetic transients program) are shown.
