The effect of quenchant temperature on the surface residual stress was studied for AISI 8620 steel. Specimens were carburized at $900^{\circ}C$ in all case type furnace using a gas-base atmosphere of methanol cracked and liquefied petroleum gas, and then subjected to single reheat quenchant in oil or salt bath in the temperature range of $60^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$. After carburizing and reheat Quenching, residual stress was measured by the hole drilling method. Experimental results showed that the surface residual stress was increased as the quenchant temperature was raised. This is in contrast to the fact that the formation of phase of low transformation strain such as bainite results in lower surface compressive stress. The greater compressive stress observed in specimens Quenched at higher temperature may be attributed to the shifting of the transformation start point farther from the surface, as was reported in other carburizing steels.
The effect of grain size on the deformation induced martensite transformation and mechanical properties in austenitic stainless steel with high amount of Mn was studied. a'-martensite was formed by deformation and deformation induced martensite was formed with surface relief. With increase of grain size, volume fraction of deformation induced martensite was increased. With the increase in degree of cold rolling, hardness, and tensile strength was rapidly increased with linear relationship, while, elongation was decreased rapidly and then decreased slowly. With increase of grain size, hardness and tensile strength was rapidly increased with linear relationship, while elongation was decreased rapidly. The hardness, tensile strengths, and elongation were more strongly influenced by deformation induced martensite than the grain size.

In this article, $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were synthesized by using $O_2$-enriched coflow, hydrogen, diffusion flames. We investigated the thermal stability of the flame-synthesized $TiO_2$ nanoparticles by examining the crystalline structures of the nanoparticles. Also, the results were compared with those of commercial P-25 nanoparticles. $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, which were spherical with diameters approximately ranging from 30 to 60nm, were synthesized. From the XRD analyses, about 96wt% of the synthesized nanoparticles were anatase-phase. After the heat-treatment at $800^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes, the synthesized $TiO_2$ nanoparticles showed no significant changes of their shapes and crystalline phases. On the other hand, most of the commercial particles sintered with each other and changed to the rutile-phase. Based on the result of XRD analysis it is believed that the flame-synthesized $TiO_2$ nanoparticles have higher thermal stability at $800^{\circ}C$ than the commercial particles.
Since the reverse shape memory effect(RSME) was reported in a CuZnAl alloy, further study has been done on the mechanism of this phenomenon and reported that it occurs by the bainitic transformation. But the present authors revealed in the previous work that the RSME in a B2 CuZnAl alloy is not caused by the shear process involved in the bainitic transformation and also that the RSME takes place as the remaining ${\alpha}^{\prime}{_2}$ phase, which is two-step transformed strain induced martensite, is newly transformed into ${\alpha}$ phase. In order to provide further evidence in supporting the facts, thus, more detailed investigations have been carried out in a $DO_3$ CuZnAl alloy.
In this work, a new way of measuring the volume fraction of e martensite in Fe-based alloys has been proposed. Since the specific volume of ${\varepsilon}$ martensite, depending on alloy composition, is smaller than that of austenite i.e ${\gamma}$ phase, volume expansion takes place during ${\varepsilon}{\rightarrow}{\gamma}$ reverse transformation. As the amount of the volume expansion is proportional to the product of specific volume difference times the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ martensite, the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ martensite can be calculated by measuring the volume expansion and the specific volume difference. Such a relationship was confirmed in Fe-21Mn and Fe-32Mn-6Si alloys which undergo ${\gamma}{\rightarrow}{\varepsilon}$ martensitic transformation on cooling and by cold rolling, respectively. It was also found that the former has isotropic ${\varepsilon}$ martensite while the latter has anisotropic ${\varepsilon}$ martensite.

Ferritic stainless steels would be the most important alloys under the chloride environment. They are a cheaper alternative to austenitic stainless steels [1]. The present study is related to gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) characteristics of Type 444 stainless steels. The heat of welding leads to grain coarsening in the HAZ and in the weld metal of ferritic stainless steels because they solidify directly from the liquid to the ferritc phase without any intermediate phase transformation. It is therefore recommended that these alloys be welded with a low heat input and at high welding speeds. Attempts to improve weldability were made by using of direct current straight polarity (DCSP) and pulsed current GTAW processes in this study. Measuring weld bead, grain size and Erichsen test were performed and the effects of heat input, pulse frequency on the weld metal and HAZ were studied. The main results were obtained as followings: decreasing heat input was effective to control the width of weld both in DCSP welding and in pulsed current welding; pulsed current welding was found to refine the grain size effectively and the finest grain size was found at the frequency of 150Hz in pulsed current welding; it was found that decreasing heat input also refine the HAZs effectively and the frequency had no different effect on HAZ at the same heat input; the ductility could be improved effectively in pulsed current welding.

The present work aims to report the consequences of Darcy-Forchheimer medium in flow of Cross fluid model toward a stretched surface. Flow in porous space is categorized by Darcy-Forchheimer medium. Further heat transfer characteristics are examined via thermal radiation and heat generation/absorption. Transformation procedure is used. The arising system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations is solved numerically by means of shooting method. The effects of different flow variables on velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction, and heat transfer rate are discussed. The obtained outcomes show that velocity was enhanced with the increase in the Weissenberg number but decays with increase in the porosity parameter and Hartman number. Temperature field is boosted by thermal radiation and heat generation; however, it decays with the increase in the Prandtl number.
Effect of austenite grain size on starting temperature of ${\gamma}{\rightarrow}{\varepsilon}$ martensitic transformation($M_s$) has been studied in an Fe-18%Mn alloy. Particular attention was paid on the variation of stacking fault energy with austenite grain size, which is considered to be a important factor affecting ${\gamma}{\rightarrow}{\varepsilon}$ martensitic transformation. Austenite grain size was increased in a wide range from $13{\mu}m$ to $185{\mu}m$ with increasing solution treatment temperature from $700^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$. Hardness was decreased with increasing austenite grain size while the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ martensite showed a reverse tendency, which indicates that the hardness is more dependent on austenite grain size than ${\varepsilon}$ martensite content. No significant change was found in $M_s$ temperature when the grain size was larger than about $30{\mu}m$. In case that, the austenite grain size was smaller than about $30{\mu}m$, however, $M_s$ temperature was marlkedly decreased with decreasing austenite grain size. A linear relationship between $M_s$ temperature and the stacking fault formation probability, i.e. the reciprocal of the stacking fault energy was obtained, which suggests that the variation of $M_s$ temperature with austenite grain size is closely related to the change in stacking fault energy.
Three different white cast irons alloyed with Cr, V, Mo and W were prepared in order to study their transformation behavior of matrix structures in heat-treated conditions. The specimens were produced using a 15kg-capacity high frequency induction furnace. Melts were super-heated to $1600^{\circ}C$, and poured at $1550^{\circ}C$ into Y-block pepset molds. Three combinations of the alloying elements were selected so as to obtain the different types of carbides and matrix structures : 3%C-10%Cr-5%Mo-5%W(alloy No. 1), 3%C-10%V-5%Mo-5%W(alloy No. 2) and 3%C-17%Cr-3%V(alloy No. 3). The heat-treatments were conducted as follows: frist of all, as-cast specimens were homogenized at $950^{\circ}C$ for 5h under the vacuum atmosphere. Then, they were austenitized at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 2h and followed by air-hardening in air. The air-hardened specimens were tempered at $300^{\circ}C$ for 3h. The observation of morphology of the matrix structures was carried out in the states of as-cast(AS), air-hardened(AHF) and tempered(AHFT). The matrix structures of each alloy were almost fully pearlitic in the as-cast state but it was transformed to martensite, tempered martensite and retained austenite by the heat-treatments such as air-hardening and tempering.
Long length of Bi-2223/Ag superconducting wives were fabricated by stacking and drawing process with advanced heat-treatment schedules. Intermediate annealing was carried out to increase the homogeneity and uniformity of the superconducting filaments embedded in the silver matrix. Phase modification from tetragonal to orthorhombic Bi-2212 by pre heat treatment(PHT) was executed to improve the texture and phase transformation of Bi-2223. Drawing stress was measured to predict the sausaging and stress limit. Rolling Parameters such as thickness. width and winding tension were investigated to roll the tape with uniformity. 1 km length of Bi-2223/Ag superconducting wires were fabricated without any breakage. Critical current (Je) of 270 m length of superconducting tapes was measured over than $70 A/cm^2$ continuously after final sintering.
