Falling film heat transfer has been widely used in many applications in which heat and mass transfer occur simultaneously, such as evaporative coolers, cooling towers, absorption chillers, etc. In such cases, it is desirable that the falling film spreads widely on the surface forming thin liquid film to enlarge contact surface and to reduce the thermal resistance across the film and/or the flow resistance to the vapor stream over the film. In this work, the surface is treated to have thin porous layer on the surface. With this treatment, the liquid can be spread widely on the surface by the capillary force resulting from the porous structure. In addition to this, the liquid can be held within the porous structure to improve surface wettedness regardless of the surface inclination. The experiment on the evaporative cooling of an inclined surface has been conducted to verify the effectiveness of the surface treatment. It is measured that the evaporative heat transfer increases about $50\%$ by the porous layer treatment as compared with that from orignal bare surfaces.
In this study, two large pile load tests were performed in the deep sand gravel deposit of Nakdong river basin so that the characteristics of the load transfer was identified. The fully instrumented rectangular barrette pile in the size of $1.5\times3.0m$ and the circular bored pile of the diameter 1.5 m were placed into the ground below 50 m. Under the applied loads of 2,400 tonf and 4,000 tonf, the test results of the load transfer showed the portion of 83% and 93% of the applied loads on the barrette pile and the bored pile, respectively, were supported by the skin friction along the pile shaft. It was revealed that the most of these skin friction mobilized in sand layer underlying clay layer having N-value more than 30 and that the friction per unit area of the bored pile was larger than the friction of barrette pile. However, if embedded in the stiff sand graval layer, the both piles were proven to be sufficient for using as the friction piles.

Mono-crystalline silicon(mono-Si) is both abundant in our environment and an excellent material for Si device applications. However, single crystalline silicon solar cell has been considered to be expensive for terrestrial applications. For that reason, the last few years have seen very rapid progress in the research and development activities of layer transfer(LT) processes. Thin film Si layers which can be detached from a reusable mono-Si wafers served as a substrate for epitaxial growth. The epitaxial films have a very high efficiency potential. LT technology is a promising approach to reduce fabrication cost with high efficiency at large scale since expensive Si substrate can be recycled. Low quality Si can be used as a substrate. Therefore, we propose one of the major technologies on fabricating thin film Si substrate using a LT. In this paper, we study the LT method using the electrochemical etching(ECE) and solid edge.
Experimental results describing the effects of blowing ratio on film cooling from two rows of holes with opposite orientation angles are presented. The inclination angle was fixed at $35^{\circ}$ and the orientation angles were set to be $45^{\circ}$ for downstream row. and $-45^{\circ}$ for upsream row. The studied blowing ratios were 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. The boundary layer temperature distributions were measured using thermocouple at two downstream loundary layer temperature distributions were measured using thermocouple at two downstream locations. Detailed adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient distributions were measured with TLC(Thermochromic Liquid Crystal). The adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient distributions are discussed in connection with the injectant behaviors inferred from the boundary layer temperature distributions. Film cooling performance, represented by heat flux was calculated with the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient data.

Turbulent boundary layer noise is already a significant contributor to sonar self noise. For developing acoustic window of sonar system to reduce self noise, a parametric study of design factors of acoustic window is presented. Distance of sensor array from acoustic window, materials of acoustic window and characteristics of damping layer are studied as design factors to influence in the characteristics of the transfer function of self noise. As the result, these design factors make change the characteristics of transfer function slightly. Among design factors the location of sensor array is most important parameter in the self noise reduction
MoO3 metal oxide nanostructure was formed by hydrothermal synthesis, and a perovskite solar cell with an MoO3 hole transfer layer was fabricated and evaluated. The characteristics of the MoO3 thin film were analyzed according to the change of hydrothermal synthesis temperature in the range of 100 ℃ to 200 ℃ and mass ratio of AMT : nitric acid of 1 : 3 ~ 15 wt%. The influence on the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the solar cell was evaluated. Nanorod-shaped MoO3 thin films were formed in the temperature range of 150 ℃ to 200 ℃, and the chemical bonding and crystal structure of the thin films were analyzed. As the amount of nitric acid added increased, the thickness of the thin film decreased. As the thickness of the hole transfer layer decreased, the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the perovskite solar cell improved. The maximum photoelectric conversion efficiency of the perovskite solar cell having an MoO3 thin film was 4.69 % when the conditions of hydrothermal synthesis were 150 ℃ and mass ratio of AMT : nitric acid of 1 : 12 wt%.

Energy balance equations Were developed to describe the heat transfer mechanisms in a double layer plastic greenhouse with a water curtain system. Heat transfer variables were determined by using various temperature data measured in a conventional prototype semicircular cross-section greenhouse over a range of water temperatures and water flow rates. The heat transfer coefficient between flowing water and greenhouse air was independent of water flow rates. But the heat transfer coefficient between water surface and the stagnant air space within the double plastic layer was dependent on water flow rates. Substituting the heat transfer coefficients, determined from the energy balance equations in the heat transfer equations, demonstrated various relationships among ambient air temperature, greenhouse air temperature, water temperature, and water flow rates. The heating benefits were linearly related to not only the inside and outside air temperatures but also to the water temperature. The energy conservation effects of the water curtain system were found even initial water temperatures were considerably lower than the greenhouse setting temperatures. Sensitivity analysis for heat transfer coefficients demonstrated that the heat transfer coefficient between greenhouse air and the stagnant air within the plastic layers was the most significant coefficient in the estimation of heating effects.
A new ionic mass transfer correlation is derived for the fluid-saturated, horizontal porous layer. Darcy-Forchheimer model is used to explain characteristics of fluid motion. Based on the microscales of turbulence a backbone mass transfer relation is derived as a function of the Darcy-Rayleigh number, $Ra_D$ and the porous medium Schmidt number, $Sc_p$. For the Darcy's limit of $Sc_p{\gg}Ra_D$, the Sherwood number, Sh is a function of $Ra_D$ only. However, for the region of high $Ra_D$, Sh can be related with $Ra_DSc_p$. Based on the present backbone equation and the electrochemical mass transfer experiments which are electro plating or electroless plating, the new ionic mass transfer correlation is suggested in the porous media.

We have developed a simple synthetic method for fabricating a wafer-scale colloidal crystal film of 2D crystals in a 1D stack based on a combination of two simple processes : the self-assembly of polystyrene (PS) nanospheres at the water-air interface and the layer-by-layer (LbL) scooping transfer technique. The main advantage of this approach is that it allows excellent control of the thickness (at a layer level) of the crystals and the formation of a vertical crack-free layer over a wafer-scale (4 inch). We investigate the optical and morphological properties of the PhC multilayers fabricated using various mono-sized colloidal crystals (250, 300, 350, 420, 580, 720, and 850 nm), and mixed binary colloidal crystals (300/350 and 250/350 nm).
