  • This paper studies the radio frequency to direct current (RF-DC) conversion efficiency of rectennas applicable to wireless power transfer systems, where multiple receive antennas are arranged in serial, parallel or cascaded form. To begin with, a 2.45 GHz dual-diode rectifier is designed and its equivalent linear model is applied to analyze its output voltage and current. Then, using Advanced Design System (ADS), it is shown that the rectifying efficiency is as large as 66.2% in case the input power is 15.4 dBm. On the other hand, to boost the DC output, three composite rectennas are designed by inter-connecting two dual-diode rectifiers in serial, parallel and cascade forms; and their output voltage and current are investigated using their respective equivalent linear models. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that all composite rectennas have almost the same RF-DC conversion efficiency as the dual-diode rectifier, yet the output of voltage or current can be significantly increased; in particular, the cascade rectenna obtains the highest rectifying efficiency.

  • Efficiency of the compressor is most important parameter in the domestic refrigerator which runs year around. With developed analytical model about heat transfer analysis in the hermetic compressor, parametric study was performed to know the effect on efficiency by design and material modification of the compressor. Volumetric efficiency of the compressor increased approximately $3\%$ when insulation is increased about $50\%$ in suction component. However, the insulation effect on discharge component was only $1\%$. When the thermal conductivity of the discharge plenum is reduced from 300 to 20 $W/m{\cdot}K$, volumetric efficiency increased about $3.1\%$. There is no attraction in efficiency increment with variation of outside surface area of the compressor and radial heat transfer coefficient of the solid component in the compressor shell.

  • Four different methods of reducing the heat transfer coefficients from experimental data under dehumidifying conditions are compared. The four methods consist of two different heat and mass transfer models and two different fin efficiency models. Data are obtained from two heat exchanger samples having plain fins or wave fins. Comparison of the data with the reduction methods revealed that the single potential heat and mass transfer model yielded the humidity independent heat transfer coefficients. Two different fin efficiency models - enthalpy model and humidity model - yielded approximately the same fin efficiencies and accordingly approximately the same heat transfer coefficients. The heat transfer coefficients under wet conditions were approximately the same as those of the dry conditions for the plain fin configuration. For the wave fin configuration, however, wet surface heat transfer coefficients were approximately 12% higher. The pressure drops of the wet surface were 10% to 45% larger than those of the dry surface.

  • Recently, wireless power transfer technology is ready to be commercialized in consumer electronics. It draws attention of not only experts but also public because of its convenience and huge market. However, previous technologies such as magnetic resonance and induction coupling have limited applications because of its short transfer distance compared to device size and magnetic intensity limitation for the safety of body exposure. As an alternative, ultrasonic wireless power transfer technology is proposed. The ultrasonic wireless power transfer system is composed of transmitter which converts electrical energy to ultrasonic energy and receiver which converts the ultrasonic energy to the electrical energy again. This paper is focused on the development of high energy conversion efficiency of ultrasonic transmitter. Optimal transfer frequency is calculated based on the acoustic radiation and damping effect. The transmitter is designed through numerical analysis, and is manufactured to match the optimal transfer frequency with the size of 100mm diameter, 12.2 mm thickness plate. The energy conversion efficiency of about 13.6% at 2m distance is obtained, experimentally. This result is quite high considered with the device size and the power transfer distance.

  • This paper compares the load transfer efficiency between precast concrete pavement specimen and typical concrete pavement specimen by means of laboratory and field tests. An experimental method was developed to evaluate the load transfer efficiency of the dowel bars buried in the concrete pocket and grouted with cement mortar. The test results showed that the load transfer efficiency of the specimen for the dowel bars repaired with grout was equivalent to that of the control specimen. In addition, a series of FWD field tests were conducted on the precast pavement to evaluate the joint stiffness. The field test results revealed that the central deflection of the precast slab slightly increased but the load transfer efficiencies at the joints were almost the same as those in the typical concrete pavement slab.

  • The heat transfer performance of heating medium oil fluidized bed heat exchanger was measured. The operation variables were air flow rate, air inlet temperature, moisture content, water flow rate and water inlet temperature. The outside heat transfer coefficient was determined from the heat exchanger experiment and its experimental correlation was determined as a function of air velocity and viscosity of heating medium oil. Effect of viscosity was well agreed with the previous studies. Errors of the correlation equation was less than about 10% for outside heat transfer coefficient developed in this study when compared with the measured value. Hot water with the temperature greater than $77^{\circ}C$ could be produced by using the heating medium oil fluidized bed heat exchanger.

  • In this paper, the wireless power transfer system using the magnetic resonance was designed and the effect of resonant coil radius and load resistance to this system was analyzed by the circuit analysis method. As a result, the calculated transmitted-power is similar to measured one, and the coil size has a small effect to the coupling coefficients in the resonant frequency band. In addition, the fact that the calculated transmitted-power according to the source frequency is similar to measured one confirms that the circuit analysis methode in this paper is valid. The input side transmission efficiency ${\eta}_i$ including only the loss in the power transfer circuit is almost 90[%] with the large coil in the 10[cm] transfer distance, and 65[%] with the small coil in 1[cm]. The source side transmission efficiency ${\eta}_s$ is 30~40[%] at both coil when load resistance below 4.7[${\Omega}$] has been connected. Considering that the maximum ${\eta}_s$ is 50[%], this is valid in the practical applications.

  • The heat transfer performance of a multi-heat-source fluidized bed heat exchanger was analyzed. The fluidized bed heat exchanger examined in this study can simultaneously recover the waste heat from gas, water vapor, and hot water. The effects of waste water flow rate, gas flow rate, and cooling water flow rate were examined to find their experimental correlations with the heat transfer coefficient. A computer program using the correlations was developed in this study to predict the thermal performance of the fluidized bed heat exchanger. The calculated heat transfer rates of gas, water vapor, waste water, and cooling water were compared with the measured values. It was found that the error of the calculated values was less than 12%.

  • A wireless power transfer (WPT) system is generally designed with the optimum source and load impedance in order to achieve the maximum power transfer efficiency (PTE) at a specific coupling coefficient. Empirically or intuitively, however, it is well known that a high PTE can be attained by adjusting either the source or load impedance. In this paper, we estimate the maximum achievable PTE of WPT systems with the given load impedance, and propose the condition of source impedance for the maximum PTE. This condition can be reciprocally applied to the load impedance of a WPT system with the given source impedance. First, we review the transducer power gain of a two-port network as the PTE of the WPT system. Next, we derive two candidate conditions, the critical coupling and the optimum conditions, from the transducer power gain. Finally, we compare the two conditions carefully, and the results therefore indicate that the optimum condition is more suitable for a highly efficient WPT system with a given load impedance.

  • Recently, an energy-saving due to the energy utilisation efficiency enhancement is important. In order to improve the heat efficiency of the general residential boiler, We performed an experiment of condensation heat transfer to air pre-heat exchanger adhered to the condensing boiler. In this research, We analyze the heat transfer performance through the hydrophilic surface treatment(plasma, etching). The results of the research, On plasma and etching treated surface, Overall heat transfer coefficient is displayed the tendency to increase.
