Due to improved wireless communication technologies, it is possible to provide multimedia streaming service for mobile device clients like PDAs and cellphones. Wireless networks are serviced on low bandwidth channels and mobile devices work on limited hardware specifications. In these conditions, transcoding technologies are needed to adapt the media for streaming services to given mobile environments. To transcode from the source media to the target media for corresponding grades, transcoding servers perform transcoding jobs as exhausting their resources. Since various transcoding loads occur according to the target transconding grades, an effective transcoding load balancing policy is required among transcoding servers. In addition to transcoding process, servers should maintain QoS streams for mobile clients for total serviced times. It requires real-time requirements to support QoS for various mobile clients. In this paper, a new transcoding load distribution method is proposed. The proposed method can be driven for fair load balance between distributed transcoding servers. Based on estimated transcoding time, movie information and target transcoding bit-rate, it provides fair transcoding load distribution and also performs admission control to support QoS streams for mobile clients.

The transcoding is needed to modify the bit rate of the video bitstream in accordance with the bandwidth of a variety of channels in order to provide users with a realtime multimedia service and more stable and credible VOD(Video On Demand) service on various wire/wireless network. This paper suggests how to guarantee the video quality in the transcoding process, taking the activity and direction of the macroblock into consideration, thereby reducing the calculation. The threshold of the macroblock's activity and direction is applicable to the different videos, with the DCT coefficients from the intermediate data in the decoding process. Moreover, the suggested video transcoding algorism enables us to maintain the proper video quality and reduce the calculation through the video bit rate change experiment in H.263 environment.

Recently, according to the rapid development of surveillance information, closed-circuit television (CCTV) has become an indispensable component in security systems. A lot of advanced technologies of encryption and compression are implementing to improve the performance and security levels of the CCTV system. Especially, 360 video CCTV streaming is promising for surveillance without blind areas. However, compared to previous systems, 360 CCTV requires large bandwidth and low latency. Therefore, it requires more efficiently effort to improve the CCTV system performance. In order to meet the demands of 360 CCTV streaming, transcoding is an essential process to enhance the current CCTV system. Moreover, encryption algorithm is also an important priority in security system. In this paper, we propose a real-time transcoding solution in combination with the ARIA and AES algorithms. Experimental results prove that the proposed method has achieved around 195% speed up transcoding compared to FFMPEG libx265 method. Furthermore, the proposed system can handle multiple transcoding sessions simultaneously at high performance for both live 360 CCTV system and existing CCTV system.
In this paper, we propose a fast bitrate reduction transcoding method to convert a bitstream coded by H.264 into a lower bitrate H.264 bitstream. Block mode informations and motion vectors generated by H.264 decoder are used for probability-based block mode determination in the proposed transcoding method. And the motion vector reuse and motion vector refinement process are applied in the proposed transcoding. In the experiment results, the proposed methods achieves approximately 40 times improvement in computation complexity compared with the cascaded pixel domain transcoding, while the PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) is degraded with only $0.1\~0.3$ dB.
For playing a multimedia presentation in a Internet, the case that the presentation QoS(Quality of Services) at a destination nay be different from the QoS of multimedia data at the source occurs frequently. In this case, the process of trancoding the multimedia data at the source Into the multimedia data satisfying the QoS at the destination should be requited. In addition, even the presentation description having the homogeneous QoS at both sides may have different transcoding paths due to the limitation of display terminals or network bandwidth. That is, for a multimedia description, it is required to regenerate a proper transcoding path whenever the displaying terminals or the network environment gets decided. And the delay time required to go through the transcoding path may affect the playability of the give presentation. Therefore it should be checked whether the presentation requiring a transcoding process is able to be played in a real time. In this paper, the algorithm for generating all the possible transcoding paths for a given multimedia description under a fixed set of transcoders and the network environment is proposed. The algorithm adopts the concept of QoS transition diagram to Prevent from a trancoding Path being cycled by the repetition of a cyclic Path which generates the same QoS of multimedia data as its input QoS. By eliminating all the cyclic Paths, the algorithm can guarantee the termination of the process. And for the playability check, a method of computing the transcoding time and the delay lime between logical data units are proposed. Finally all the proposed methods were implemented in the stream engine, called TransCore and the presentation-authoring tool, called VIP, we had developed. And the test results with sample scenarios were presented at the last.
In this paper, we propose an efficient transcoding of MPEG video. Transcoding is the process of converting a compressed video format to another different compressed video format. We propose an simple and efficient transcoding by requantization in which MPEG coded video at high bit-rate is converted into MPEG bitstream at lower bit-rate. To reduce a image quality degradation, we use HVS(Human Visual System) that is the effect that visibility of noise is less in high activity regions than in low activity regions. By using the effect, the part of image in high activity region is coarsely quantized without seriously degrading the image quality. Experimental results show that the proposed method can provide good performance.
In this paper, a transcoding algorithm for the Selectable Mode Vocoder (SMV) and the G.723.1 speech coder via direct parameter transformation is proposed. In contrast to the conventional tandem transcoding algorithm, the proposed algorithm converts the parameters of one coder to the Other Without going through the decoding md encoding process. The proposed algorithm is composed of four parts: the parameter decoding, line spectral pair (LSP) conversion, pitch period conversion, excitation conversion and rate selection. The evaluation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves equivalent speech quality to that of tandem transcoding with reduced computational complexity and delay.

We propose an efficient DCT-domain video transcoding algorithm for flexible for bit-rate video communications. Video transcoding provides communication fiexibility by adaptively changing the bit-rate of compressed bit stream. During the transcoding process, adrift error is unavoidable because of the difference between reference images in the series of encoding and decoding. For solving the drift error problem, cascade pixel-domain transcoder (CPDT) has been proposed. CPDT, however, requires highly complex hardware and heavy computational overhead. In this paper we propose a DCT-domain transcoding technique, which enables efficient transcoding without any drift error. The proposed cascade DCT-domain transcoder (CDDT) is realized by new motion compensation and down-sampling methods in the DCT-domain.

According to rapidly developed mobile terminals and network in the play environment for multimedia presentation, different end-to-end QoS situations appear. Then the generation of transcoding path algorithm was reviewed to transcode a source'data satisfying the needed QoS from a destination and play it considering given transcoders and network. This method used only workload as a parameter although two parameters, workload and throughput, were needed to process multimedia stream in a transcoder, Therefore generated transcoding path with this method had additional calculation to check playability whether it was safisfed the QoS of a destination or not. To solve the problem this paper suggests T algorithm with evaluation function using isochronous property that is needed for multimedia stream to arrive a destination. That means, most playable path is selected with heuristic search based isochronous property between many transcoding paths. Using the suggested algorithm, a transcoding path can be generated faster to play the multimedia data with different end-to-end QoS in real-time transmission.
