Effects of Lactation Stage and Individual Performance on Milk cis-9, trans-11 Conjugated Linoleic Acids Content in Dairy Cows

  • The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of lactation stage and individual performance on milk cis-9, trans-11 conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content in dairy cows. In experiment 1, the milk cis-9, trans-11 CLA content from dairy cows in early ($0.33{\pm}0.014%$), middle ($0.37{\pm}0.010%$), and late stages ($0.44{\pm}0.020%$) showed significant differences (p<0.05); and the individual contents of the major fatty acids, especially cis-9, trans-11 CLA in cows of the same lactation were also variable. In the second experiment design as a validation test, our results once again showed that the individual contents of cis-9, trans-11 CLA were various, and a difference of about 2-fold (0.55% vs 0.95%) was observed, although the animals were offered same diet. These data demonstrated that lactation stage and individual performance have considerable effects on milk cis-9, trans-11 CLA contents.

High Level of Trans-Resveratrol, a Natural Anti-Cancer Agent, Found in Korean Noul Red Wine

  • Resveratrol (trans-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene), a phenolic substance present in both grapes and wines, has been reported to have certain pharmacological effects. Using an ethylacetate-phase extraction followed by a high performance liquid chromatographic analysis, the concentration of trans-resveratrol was measured in 9 red wines commercially available in Korea, including the Korean red wine (Noul). Noul red wine with a 1998 vintage had a trans-resveratrol concentration of 3.3 ㎎/l, which was rather higher than the concentrations found in other wines (0.19-2.45 ㎎/l) with the exception of the French wine, J. P. Chenet (3.39 ㎎/l). In addition, the grapes of Vitis labrusca cv. Sheridan cultivated in the Kyungsan area showed a trans-resveratrol content of 6.4 ㎎/㎏.

Analysis of Trans Fat in Edible Oils with Cooking Process

  • Trans fat is a unsaturated fatty acid with trans configuration and separated double bonds. Analytical methods have been introduced to analyze trans fat content in foods including infrared (IR) spectroscopy, gas chromatography (GC), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, reverses-phase silver ion high performance liquid chromatography, and silver nitrate thin layer chromatography. Currently, FT-IR spectroscopy and GC are mostly used methods. Trans fat content in 6 vegetable oils were analyzed and processing effects including baking, stir-frying, pan-frying, and frying on the formation of trans fat in corn oil was evaluated by GC. Among tested vegetable oils, corn oil has 0.25 g trans fat/100 g, whereas other oils including rapeseed, soybean, olive, perilla, and sesame oils did not have detectable amount of trans fat content. Among cooking methods, stir-frying increased trans fat in corn oil whereas baking, pan-frying, and frying procedures did not make changes in trans fat content compared to untreated corn oils. However, the trans fat content was so low and food label can be declared as '0' trans based on the regulation of Ministry of Food ad Drug Safety (MFDS) (< 2 g/100 g edible oil).

Trans-Resveratrol Contents of Peanut Seeds Depend on Varieties and Processing Methods

  • The high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) method for the determination of trans-resveratrol in 34 germplasms and processing methods of peanut seeds has been modified. Peanut germplasms contained trans-resveratrol contents of $0.14{\sim}4.96{\mu}g/g$, but findings for the testa color were not significant. However, two germplasms, 'KIGAN' and 'CS1', contained more trans-resveratrol contents than the other germplasms. The contents of their were $2.26{\mu}g/g\;and\;4.96{\mu}g/g$. The tested processing methods caused no significant changes in trans-resveratrol contents. The contents of fresh, boiled, and roasted peanuts were 0.36, 0.32, and $0.40{\mu}g/g$, respectively in cv. Palkwang, and 0.22, 0.22, and $0.26{\mu}g/g$, respectively, in cv. Jakwang. Differences were not significant among fresh, boiled, and roasted peanuts. The grains of 'Palkwang' and 'Jakwang' contained trans-resveratrol contents of $0.34{\mu}g/g\;and\;0.24{\mu}g/g$, and testa contained $1.12{\mu}g/g\;and\;1.00{\mu}g/g$, respectively. However, when comparing absolute quantity, the trans-resveratrol contents appears to be approximately $3{\sim}4$ times higher in the testa than in the grain of the peanut, although the total contents were not different because the ratio of testa was low in peanut seeds.

Multi-Code Trans-Biorthogonal Modulation Scheme (다중 트랜스 이진 직교 변조 방식)

  • In this paper, we explain the combined scheme of multi-code modulation and trans-orthogonal modulation. The name of the explained scheme is the multi-code trans-orthogonal modulation. Additionally, we propose a multi-code trans-biorthogonal modulation scheme, which is a little more improved multi-code trans-orthogonal modulation. We show the performance of the proposed schemes and compare the performance of the proposed schemes with the orthogonal modulation by using the computer simulation. According to the computer simulations, we can know that the bandwidth efficiency of the proposed schemes is better than that of the conventional orthogonal modulation. The proposed schemes can be used in physical layer of digital wireless telecommunication system to provide high speed data rate.

Environmentally friendly determination of urinary trans, trans-muconic acid for biological monitoring of benzene exposure by green high-performance liquid chromatography (소변 중 뮤콘산의 친환경 HPLC 분석방법을 이용한 벤젠 노출 생물학적 노출평가)

  • An environmentally friendly, so-called green, high performance liquid chromatography method was developed and validated for the determination of trans, trans-muconic acid (t,t-MA) in human urine as a biomarker of benzene exposure. After urinary t,t-MA was extracted and enriched using solid-phase extraction, a MF-Ph1 SG80 ($150mm{\times}2.0mm$ I.D., 5 ${\mu}m$) column with a mobile phase of 10 mM $KH_2PO_4$ containing 0.1% $H_3PO_4$ was used for isocratic separation of t,t-MA with UV detection at 259 nm. The calibration curve was constructed in the range of 0.1-5.0 mg/L with good linearity ($r^2$=0.9992). The intra-day and inter-day precision (as RSD) were 0.9-8.5% and 3.1-4.5%, respectively. The average recovery ranged from 97.5% to 101.7%. The green sample preparation and separation with no organic solvents were successfully achieved. The validated method would be suitable for the routine biological monitoring of benzene exposure in the occupational settings.

  • This paper proposes the switched trans Z-source inverter(STZSI) which combined the characteristics of the trans Z-source inverter(TZSI) and the switched inductor Z-source inverter(SLZSI). The proposed STZSI has the same performance compared with the SLZSI which is improved the voltage boost performance of the conventional typical X-shaped ZSI, and it has advantage that circuit structure of Z-impedance network is more simple. And, in order to step up the voltage boost factor under the condition of the same duty ratio, unlike the SLZSI adding the inductors and diodes, the proposed method is dune by changing the turn ratio of trans primary winding of Z-impedance network. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, PSIM simulation and a DSP(TMS320F28335) based experiment were performed using trans with turn ratio 1 and 2 under the condition of the input DC voltage VI=50V, duty ratio D=0.1 and D=0.15. As a result, under the same input/ouput condition, the inverter arm voltage stress of the proposed method is reduced to about 15%-22% as compared with typical X-shaped ZSI, and the elements in Z-impedance network of the proposed method is reduced as compared with the SLZSI.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a tool for the analysis of the cavitating flow around trans-cavitating marine propellers. In this study, a linearized super-cavitation theory was applied in order to analyze the performance of the 2-dimensional foils. The numerical results correlated very well with experimental data. The trans-cavitating propellers, manufactured and tasted in KRISO, is selected to validate the lifting surface procedure. For a TCP with a Johnson's five term section, the comparison between the numerical prediction and experiments is fairly good and promising. The new lifting surface procedure, developed and validated with 2-D foils and a TCP, is generally considered applicable to the practical design of the trans-cavitating propeller with Johnson's five term section

  • Reversible trans-cis isomerization of meta-bipyridylazobenzene coordinated to cobalt was achieved by a combination of photoirradiation with a single UV light source and a Co(II)/Co(III) redox reaction. The trans/cis conversion performance was significantly improved in the meta-form compared with the meta-form ligated to cobalt.

  • In this paper, we propose a constant-amplitude multi-rode trans-bi-orthogonal modulation scheme by introducing a simple constant-amplitude coding scheme with redundant bits and trans-code, which if a modified orthogonal modulation scheme. Generally speaking, the orthogonal modulation scheme is not appropriate for the high speed data transmission applications because of bad bandwidth efficiency. Therefore, we use the multi-rode trans-bi-orthogonal modulation with trans-code for high bandwidth efficiency. Moreover, redundant bits are used for constant-amplitude-coding. Finally, we compare the performance of the proposed scheme with the orthogonal modulation and constant-amplitude multi-code trans-orthogonal modulation by using the computer simulation.
