Spatial data processing often poses challenges due to the unique characteristics of spatial data and this becomes more complex in spatial big data processing. Some tools have been developed and provided to users; however, they are not common for a regular user. This paper presents a benchmark test between two notable tools of spatial big data processing: GIS Tools for Hadoop and SpatialHadoop. At the same time, a MapReduce application is introduced to be used as a baseline to evaluate the effectiveness of two tools and to derive the impact of number of maps/reduces on the performance. By using these tools and New York taxi trajectory data, we perform a spatial data processing related to filtering the drop-off locations within Manhattan area. Thereby, the performance of these tools is observed with respect to increasing of data size and changing number of worker nodes. The results of this study are as follows 1) GIS Tools for Hadoop automatically creates a Quadtree index in each spatial processing. Therefore, the performance is improved significantly. However, users should be familiar with Java to handle this tool conveniently. 2) SpatialHadoop does not automatically create a spatial index for the data. As a result, its performance is much lower than GIS Tool for Hadoop on a same spatial processing. However, SpatialHadoop achieved the best result in terms of performing a range query. 3) The performance of our MapReduce application has increased four times after changing the number of reduces from 1 to 12.
Defense M&S(Modeling & Simulation) requires weapon effectiveness index which indicates Ph(Probability of hit) and Pk(Probability of kill) values on various impact and environmental conditions. The index is usually produced by JMEM(Joint Munition Effectiveness Manual) development process, which calculates Pk based on the impact condition and circular error probable. This approach requires experts to manually adjust the index to consider the environmental factors such as terrain, atmosphere, and obstacles. To reduce expert's involvement, this paper proposes a meta-model based method to produce weapon effectiveness index. The method considers the effects of environmental factors during calculating a munition's trajectory by utilizing high-resolution weapon system models. Based on the result of Monte-Carlo simulation, logistic regression model and Gaussian Process Regression(GPR) model is respectively developed to predict Ph and Pk values of unobserved conditions. The suggested method will help M&S users to produce weapon effectiveness index more efficiently.

Objects, which change their positions over time such as cars, are called moving objects. Trajectories of a moving object have large volumes because trajectories are accumulated. Efficient indexing techniques for searching these large volumes of trajectories are needed in the moving object databases. Especially the TB-tree which supports bundling trajectories is suitable for processing combined queries which have 2 steps: first step is selecting trajectories (range search), next is selecting the parts of each trajectory (trajectory search). But the TB-tree has unnecessary disk accesses cause of lack of spatial discrimination in range queries. In this paper, we propose and implement the splitting polity which can reduce dead spaces of non-leaf node in order to process range queries efficiently. The policy has better performance about range queries than the TB-tree as well as the advantages of the TB-tree, such as highly space utilization and efficient trajectory extraction. This paper shows that the newly proposed split policy has better performance in processing the range queries than that of the TB-tree by experimental evaluation.

This paper presents an optimized integrated task planning and control approach for manipulating a nonholonomic robot by mobile manipulators. Then, we derive a kinematics model and a mobility of the mobile manipulator(M2) platform considering it as the combined system of the manipulator and the mobile robot. to improve task execution efficiency utilizing the redundancy, optimal trajectory of the mobile manipulator(M2) platform are maintained while it is moving to a new task point. A cost function for optimality can be defined as a combination of the square errors of the desired and actual configurations of the mobile robot and of the task robot. In the combination of the two square errors, a newly defined mobility of a mobile robot is utilized as a weighting index. With the aid of the gradient method, the cost function is minimized, so the path trajectory that the M2 platform generates is optimized. The simulation results of the 2 ink planar nonholonomic M2 platform are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

SIME(SIngle Machine Equivalent) method has been recognized as a useful tool to determine transient stability of power systems. In this paper, SIME method is used to develop the KEPCO transient stability assessment (TSA) tool. A new screening algorithm that can be implemented in SIME method is proposed. The salient feature of the proposed screening algorithm is as follows. First, critical generators are identified by a new index in the early stage of the time domain simulation. Thus, computational time required to find OMIB(One Machine Infinite Bus) can be reduced significantly. Second, clustering critical machines can be performed even in very stable cases. It enables to be avoid extra calculation of time trajectory that is needed in SIME for classifying the stable cases. Finally, using power-angle trajectory and subdividing contingency classification have improved the screening capability. This algorithm is applied to the fast TSA of the KEPCO system.

In this study, an attempt has been made to investigate the water-entry characteristics of the high-speed parallel projectile numerically. The shear stress transport k-𝜔 turbulence model and the Zwart-Gerber-Belamri cavitation model based on the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes method were used. The grid independent inspection and grid convergence index is carried out and verified. The influences of the parallel water-entry on flow filed characteristics, trajectory stability and drag reduction performance for different values of initial water-entry speed (𝜈0 = 280 m/s, 340 m/s, 400 m/s) and clearance between the parallel projectiles (Lp = 0.5D, 1.0D, 2.0D, 3.0D) are presented and analyzed in detail. Under the condition of the parallel water-entry, it can be found that due to the intense interference between the parallel projectiles, the distribution of cavity is non-uniform and part of the projectile is exposed to water, resulting in the destruction of the cavity structure and the decline of trajectory stability. In addition, the parallel projectile suffers more severe lateral force that separates the two projectiles. The drag reduction performance is impacted and the velocity attenuation is accelerated as the clearance between the parallel projectiles reduces.

To index the object's trajectory is an important aspect in moving object database management. This paper implements an optimizing index structure named Rend 3D R-tree based on 3D R-Tree. This paper demonstrates the time period update method to reconstruct the MBR for the moving objects in order to decrease the dead space that is produced in the closed time dimension of the 3D R-tree, then a rend method is introduced for indexing both current data and history data. The result of experiments illustrates that given methods outperforms 3D R-Tree and LUR tree in query processes.
This article aims to optimize the nitrogen removal of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) through the use of the activated sludge model and iterative dynamic programming (IDP). Using a minimum batch time and a maximum nitrogen removal for minimum energy consumption, a performance index is developed on the basis of minimum area criteria for SBR optimization. Choosing area as the performance index makes the optimization problem simpler and a proper weighting in the performance index makes it possible to solve minimum time and energy problem of SBR simultaneously. The optimized results show that the optimal set-point of dissolved oxygen affects both the total batch time and total energy cost. For two different influent loadings, IDP-based SBR optimizations suggest each supervisory control of batch scheduling and set-point trajectory of dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration, and can save 20% of the total energy cost, while meeting the treatment requirements of COD and nitrogen. Moreover, it shows that the re-optimization of IDP within a batch can solve the modelling error problem due to the influent loading changes, or the process faults.
An observation and evaluation of the reproducibility of the mandibular movements has been a integral part of a test for mandibular function and dysfunction. After Pantographic Reproducibility Index(PRI) was introduced in dentistry, many authors have used the index for investigation of mandibular movement function, especially in condylar compartment. Howerer, the difficult and time-consuming work of instrumentation for getting the PRI has been a major obstacle in using pantograph. This study was performed to try a new mandibular reproducibility index, so-called BioEGN reproducibility index(BERI), calculated from mandibular trajectory recorded with BioEGN. 26 dental students without any signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders and 22 patients with temporomandibular disorders took part in this study and classed to control group and patients group, respectively. Pantronic and BioEGN were used to record and calculate the indices, PRI and BERI. PRI had only one value, but BERI had two values of outgoing and incoming movement in each scale. With two scales of small and large, as a result, BERI had four values in this study. PRI corresponded to BERI in small scale on outgoing total movements. The data were calculated and analyzed with SAS/stat program and the conclusion of this study were as follows : 1. In every scales, in each movement, BERI on outgoing movement in control group was lower than that in patients group, respectively, but BERI on incoming movement was only different in one side movement, that was, left excursion. 2. The difference between BERI on outgoing movement and BERI on incoming movement was only shown in small scale on total movements, not in each movement, in control group. However, there was generally a positive correlationship between BERI on outgoing movement and BERI on incoming movement in each movement in both groups. 3. Simple statistics of PRI was similar to that of BERI on total movements in small scale, but there was a negative correlation between PRI and BERI on total movements in large sclae only in patients group.
Successful launch requires state-of-the-art launch vehicle technology and constant test operations, However, the meteorological threat to the launch vehicle flight trajectory is also an important factor for launch success. Atmospheric stability above the Naro Space Center at the this time is very important, especially because the initial flight operation can determine the success of the launch. Moreover, during the flight of launch vehicle with rapid pressure and thrust into the atmosphere, convection activity in the atmosphere may create environmental conditions that cause severe weather threats such as thunderstorms. Hence, studies of atmospheric instability characteristics over the Naro Space Center are a necessary part of successful launch missions. Therefore, the main aims of this study were to (1) verify the atmospheric stability index and convection activity characteristics over the Naro Space Center using radiosonde data observed from 2007 to 2018 by the Naro Space Center, (2) analyze changes in the atmospheric stability index according to monthly and seasonal changes, and (3) assess how the calculated atmospheric stability index is related to actual thunderstorm occurrence using statistical analysis. Additionally, we aimed to investigate the atmospheric characteristics above the Naro Space Center through the distribution chart of the atmospheric stability index during summer, when convection activity is highest. Finally, we assessed the relationship between lightning occurrence and unstable atmospheric conditions, through predictability analysis performed using the lightning observation data of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
