In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for predicting the number of apples on an apple tree using a deep learning-based object detection model and a polynomial regression model. Measuring the number of apples on an apple tree can be used to predict apple yield and to assess losses for determining agricultural disaster insurance payouts. To measure apple fruit load, we photographed the front and back sides of apple trees. We manually labeled the apples in the captured images to construct a dataset, which was then used to train a one-stage object detection CNN model. However, when apples on an apple tree are obscured by leaves, branches, or other parts of the tree, they may not be captured in images. Consequently, it becomes difficult for image recognition-based deep learning models to detect or infer the presence of these apples. To address this issue, we propose a two-stage inference process. In the first stage, we utilize an image-based deep learning model to count the number of apples in photos taken from both sides of the apple tree. In the second stage, we conduct a polynomial regression analysis, using the total apple count from the deep learning model as the independent variable, and the actual number of apples manually counted during an on-site visit to the orchard as the dependent variable. The performance evaluation of the two-stage inference system proposed in this paper showed an average accuracy of 90.98% in counting the number of apples on each apple tree. Therefore, the proposed method can significantly reduce the time and cost associated with manually counting apples. Furthermore, this approach has the potential to be widely adopted as a new foundational technology for fruit load estimation in related fields using deep learning.

Unlike NATM tunnels, Shield TBM tunnels have split linings. Therefore, the stress distribution of the lining is different even if the lining is under the same load. Representative methods for analyzing the stress generated in lining in Shield TBM tunnels include Non-joint Mode that does not consider connections and a 2-ring beam-spring model that considers ring-to-ring joints and segment connections. This study is an analysis method by Break-joint Mode. However, we do not consider the structural role of segment lining connections. The effectiveness of the modeling is verified by analyzing behavioral characteristics against vibration loads by modeling with segment connection interfaces to which vertical stiffness and shear stiffness, which are friction components, are applied. Unlike the Non-joint mode, where the greatest stress occurs on the crown for static loads such as earth pressure, the stress distribution caused by contact between segment lining and friction stiffness produced the smallest stress in the crown key segment where segment connections were concentrated. The stress distribution was clearly distinguished based on segment connections. The results of static analysis by earth pressure, etc., produced up to seven times the stress generated in Non-joint mode compared to the stress generated by Break-joint Mode. This result is consistent with the stress distribution pattern of the 2-ring beam-spring model. However, as for the stress value for the train vibration load, the stress of Break-joint Mode was greater than that of Non-joint mode. This is a different result from the static mechanics concept that a segment ring consisting of a combination of short members is integrated in the circumferential direction, resulting in a smaller stress than Non-joint mode with a relatively longer member length.
Gears are components of transmission which transmit the power of an engine to a machine and offer numerous speed ratios, a compact structure, and high efficiency of power transmission. Gear train design in the automotive industry uses simulation software. However, PTO (Power Take-Off) gear design for agricultural applications uses the empirical method because of the wide range of load fluctuations in agricultural fields. The PTO is an important part of agricultural tractors which transmits the power to various tractor implements. Therefore, a simulation was essential to the optimal design of the PTO. When the PTO gear is optimally designed, there are many advantages such as low cost, reduced size, and light weight. In this study, we conducted the bending and contact safety factor simulation for the PTO gear of an agricultural tractor. The bending and contact safety factors were calculated on ISO 6336 : 2006 by decreasing the face widths of the PTO pinion and wheel gear from 18 mm at an interval of 1 mm. The safety factor of the PTO gear decreased as the face width decreased. The contact safety factors of the pinion and wheel gear were 1.45 and 1.53, respectively, when the face width was 18 mm. The simulation results showed that the face width of the PTO gear should be greater than 9 mm to maintain the bending and contact safety factors higher than 1. It would be possible to reduce the weight of the PTO gear for different uses and working conditions. This study suggests that the possibility of designing an optimal PTO gear decreases as its face width decreases.

The line planning problem is to determine the origin and destination stations of the lines with their frequencies so as to meet the OD demands. Since the advent of high speed trains, Korea railway is confronted with the urgent difficulty to reconstruct the line configuration with the frequencies of each line and each fleet type so the demands could be newly created as well as satisfied. Furthermore. the existing trains except the high speed trains suffer from a longer traveling time than before. Now, to reduce the passenger traveling time, the trains with the various halting patterns are run in the same line. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new line planning model to consider the various halting patterns. Most of studies find the frequencies of each lines which meet the link traffic loads or minimum link frequencies. But these are based on the assumption of all stop patterns. Furthermore, it is not easy to include the actual constraints as like the minimum number of stops at a station, the maximum number of stops or a train, etc. We develop the line planning model considering not only the various halting patterns but also the actual constraints which is based on the multicommodity network flow model with the additional constraints.

Recently, superconductor flywheel energy storage systems (SFESs) have been developed for application to a regenerative power of train, a power quality improvement, the storage of distributed power sources such as solar and wind power, and a load leveling. As the high temperature superconductor (HTS) bearings offer dynamic stability without the use of active control, accurate analysis of the HTS bearing is very important for application to SFESs. Mechanical property of a HTS bearing is the main index for evaluating the capacity of an HTS bearing and is determined by the interaction between the HTS bulks and the permanent magnet (PM) rotor. HTS bearing rotor consists of PM and iron collector and the proper dimension design of them is very important to determine a supporting characteristics. In this study, we have optimized a rotor magnet array, which depends on the limited bulk size and performed various dimension layouts for thickness of the pole pitch and iron collector. HTS bearing rotor was installed into a single axis universal test machine for a stiffness test. A hydraulic pump was used to control the amplitude and frequency of the rotor vibration. As a result, the stiffness result showed a large difference more than 30 % according to the thickness of permanent magnet and iron collector. This is closely related to the bulk stiffness controlled by flux pining area, which is limited by the total bulk dimension. Finally, the optimized HTS bearing rotor was installed into a flywheel system for a dynamic stability test. We discussed the dynamic properties of the superconductor bearing rotor and these results can be used for the optimal design of HTS bearings of the 10kWh SFESs.
The use of a concrete track is gradually growing in urban and high-speed railways in many part of the world. The resilient pad, which is essentially when concrete tracks are used, plays the important role of relieving the impact caused by train loads. The simple fatigue test[1] to estimate the variable stiffness of resilient pads is usually performed, but it differs depending on the practical conditions of different railways. In this study, the static stiffness levels of used resilient pads according to passing tonnages levels were measured in laboratory tests. Also, the simple fatigue test and the multi-stress accelerated degradation test for new resilient pads were performed in a laboratory. The static stiffness of the used pad was compared with the results of tests of usage times and cycles. The results of the comparison showed that the variable static stiffness levels of the used pad were similar to results of the multi-stress accelerated degradation test considering the fatigue and heat load. With a T-NT equation related to the degree of the multi-stress accelerated degradation, a model of multi-stress accelerated degradation for a resilient pad was devised. It was found through this effort that the total acceleration factor was approximately 2.62. Finally, this study proposes an equation for a multi-stress accelerated degradation model for polyurethane resilient pads.
In this study, the influences of rail surface roughness on dynamic wheel-rail forces currently employed in conventional lines were assessed by performing field measurements according to grinding of rail surface roughness. The influence of the grinding effect was evaluated using a previous empirical prediction model for dynamic wheel-rail forces; model includes first-order derivatives of QI (Quality Index) and vehicle velocity. The theoretical dynamic wheel-rail force determined using the previous prediction equation was analyzed using the QI, which decreased due to rail grinding as determined through field measurements. At a constant track support stiffness, an increase in the QI caused an increase in dynamic wheel-rail forces. Further, it can be inferred that the results of dynamic wheel-rail analysis obtained using the measured data, such as the variation of QI due to rail grinding, can be used to predict the peak dynamic forces. Therefore, it is obvious that the optimum amount of rail grinding can be determined by considering the QI, that was regarding an operation characteristics of the target track (vehicle velocity and wheel load).

The tendency of more longer span length being required economical in railway bridges is studying about PSC I shaped girder. In this case, it is important to analyze and choose the effective girder section for stiffness of bridge. This study investigates the dynamic properties and safety of PSC I shaped girder being used wide upper flange whose selection based on radii and efficiency factor of flexure for railway bridge in different span type. In addition, 40m PSC Box girder bridge adopted in Honam high speed railway is further analyzed to compare dynamic performance of PSC I shaped girder railway bridge with same span length. Time history response is acquired based on the mode superposition method. Static analysis is also analyzed using standard train load combined with the impact factor. Consequently, the result met limit values in every case including vertical displacement, acceleration and distort.
A reinforcement is required to ensure the structural safety in case of railway embankment excavation under railway load. A large diameter soil nailing with concrete wall is applied as the reinforcement method instead of the conventional soil nailing system. In this study, a series of 3 dimensional numerical analyses are performed to investigate the optimum reinforcement considering 15 different conditions based on the length, lateral spacing, diameter, and inclination of the reinforcement. The interface between soil nail and perimetric grout is considered by means of cohesion, stiffness and perimeter of the grout. 0.3 m of reinforcement diameter is assessed as the most appropriate based on the economical viewpoint though ground displacement decreases with the increase of diameter, however the difference of displacement is negligible between 0.4 m and 0.3 m of diameter. Surface settlement, lateral displacement of wall, and stress of reinforcement are calculated and economic viewpoint to reinforce embankment considered. Consequently, the optimum reinforcement conditions considering those factors are evaluated as 3 m in length, 0.3 m in diameter, 1.5 m in lateral spacing, and 10 degree of inclination angle in the case of 3 m of excavation depth. Additionally, inclined potential failure surface occurs with approximately 60 degrees from the end of nails and the surface settlement and wall lateral displacement are restrained successfully by the large diameter soil nailing, based on the result of shear strain rate.

The fluid power products are widely used in current industrial area such as automation of products and equipment assembly, high-tech machine tool, aircraft, train, and etc. As the development of industry is in progress, the development of the fluid power products is demanding and it is required in every industrial area. This research proposed a pneumatic system to evaluate displacement accuracy of the pneumatic actuator without external load and to analyze capability of integration of the valve system. The pneumatic system consisted of a combination of pneumatic actuator, four two-port valves, two three-port valves, two pressure valve, a check valve, two proximity sensors, and a program logic controller (PLC). The position controller is based on the PLC connected with the proximity sensors. The maximum air pressure applied for tests was $49.05N/cm^2$ and the displacement accuracy of a stroke was measured using a dial gauge. The supply- and discharge-side of air pressure and the length of the stroke of the pneumatic cylinder were varied The test of the position control of the pneumatic cylinder was carried out 50 times at each supply- and discharge-side air pressure of 24.53/34.34, 29.43/39.24, 34.34/44.15, and $39.24/49.05N/cm^2$ and replicated three times. The accuracy of the displacement of the pneumatic cylinder stroke increased as the supply- and discharge-side of air pressure increased with the stroke length of 133mm. Also the displacement accuracy increased as the stroke length increased with the fixed supply- and discharge-side of air pressure of the pneumatic cylinder as 34.34 and $44.15N/cm^2$, respectively. The most accurate displacement of the pneumatic cylinder was obtained at the supplyand discharge-side of air pressure of 39.24 and $49.05N/cm^2$, respectively, and strokes of 170 and 190mm.
