  • TCMS(Train Control & Management System) control monitor and test the main on-board equipments including propulsion/brake unit by the serial transmission line. TCMS reduces interface circuits and number of train lines by the software logic and utilizing serial communication method. This paper describes the method of powering and braking control by TCMS software logic, and the software logic is verified by running test at Seoul Subway Line# 6. By running test result, we can see TCMS successfully control Powering/Braking of train

  • Configuration management plays a key role in systems engineering process for any project from earlier stage of development. It consists of five major activities, ie., configuration management planing, configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting and configuration verification and audit, and is essential to control system design development and operation throughout entire life cycle of the system development. And it is directly associated with other part of systems engineering management, ie., technical data management which provides traceability of important decisions and changes during development. In this paper, we describe how to apply CASE(Computer-aided Systems Engineering) tool-Cradle for the configuration management to achieve effectiveness of City Train Standard Specification Management process.

  • In the current train operation system, large scaled stations like Cheongnyangni and Yongsan are not remote controlled from the central operator but manually by local operator. It is because there are so many entering and exit of trains between depot and mainline which are operating through the large scaled stations and it is very effective to traffic flow on the mainline. Therefore, Kyong Bong Technology Co., Ltd. (KBTech) and Korea Railway Research Institute (KRRI) are continuing the research and development to import 'Autonomous Decentralized System (ADS)'as part of a new train operation control system which is a national policy project of MOCT (Ministry Of Construction & Transportation). The concept of the 'Autonomous Decentralized System (ADS)' has born in 1970's in Japan by the influences of molecular biology. The special features of ADS are being a system that able to do the online expansion, online maintenance and fault tolerance. This thesis introduces the concept of technology of ADS and also describes the system designing & development to apply with large scaled stations.

  • The era of express train in Korea has come since April in 2004. The KTX(Korea Train Express) which has introduced the technology of TGV of France is regraded as good as the ICE of Germany or Shinkansen of Japanese in its hardware aspects. However there are still many things to be improved in its software aspects such as the quality of services, since the new express railway system is in the early beginning stage. To improve the quality of services, we should first measure and analyze the current level of the service quality. Using SERVQUAL model, the service level of KTX is measured and analyzed in this paper. Issues on how to improve the service quality are discussed based on the measurement and analysis.

Korean National Railroad is planning using the GSM-r for put KTX and existing equipment to a good. GSM-R is radio communication method selected by ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System). So a new algorithm for train movement is necessary to radio communication form. This paper is come up with an algorithm for like that situation.

  • Recently, many technologies of the P.L.C (Power Line Carrier) are introduced for an efficient communication. P.L.C communication sends information in the carrier signals by conduction over the power wire. An arc detector is proposed in this paper for the effective transmission. The Power Line Carrier has an advantage in low cost because it uses existent power line. It can be easily applied anywhere that a power line socket is available. But the P.L.C. is very noisy, because many electronic devices in generate electronic noise in modulated signals. This problem should be considered carefully in the design of the arc detector system using P.L.C in railway. The proposed system can be applied for monitoring the arc detector system and the arc locator system in railway. Hence the system will be able to exchange the arc information to be T.C.M.S. (Train Control Management System), bogies and even between a station and trains in railway and use to suspicion fire in train.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study is to verify the economic validation of quality management integrated train freight car by analyzing economic evaluation indicators such as benefit and cost, net present value, and inter rate of return. Methods: First, we itemize benefit and cost field by reviewing literatures; Benefit consists of 1)Safety, 2)Operation, and 3)Maintenance; Cost consists of 1)Set-up fee, 2)Wireless internet fee, and 3)Cloud storage using fee. Second, based on these estimated values, we conduct an economic evaluation analysis. Among them, benefit and cost, net present value, and internal rate of return are selected. Results: As a result, all estimated values are highly over criterion of economic validity($$B/C{\geq}_-1$$, $$NPV{\geq}_-0$$, $$IRR{\geq}_-R$$); 1)benefit over cost ratio is 28.22, 2)Net present value is 8,121.66million KRW, and 3)Internal rate of return value is 2272%. Conclusion: The findings of this study will help making a decision when train industry adopts IoT technology for improving the effectiveness.

  • During normal subway rush hours, a train-driver is in charge of more than 3,000 people on a daily basis. When an emergency event occurs, millions of people and their property come to depend only on the train-driver's ability. After the Daegu subway fire disaster in February 2003, the Railway Safety Act was enacted in October 2004 and the 'Train Drivers' Licensing System' was introduced by the National Railroad Administration in July 2006 to secure and improve protection. This study was conducted to investigate and evaluate the effects of the Train Drivers' Licensing System since the Licensing System was first introduced eight years ago. In addition, the analysis will suggest better policies for the effectiveness of the 'Train Drivers' Licensing System'.
