  • To investigate the adequacy of maglev train system to future urban transport environments, first we derived minimum necessity requirements of the new-transit system by analyzing the issues in the urban transit management and new needs of transportation customers. Then the conformity of Maglev train to the requirements was examined. With respect to this adequacy analysis, policy directions and agenda of the making practical use of urban transit Maglev system' is proposed.

  • Railway signaling systems are so vital to ensure the safe operation of railroad and the assurance and demonstration of the safety is so important. The safety management process shall consist of a number of phases and activities, which are linked to form the safety life-cycle. The basic processes of safety management and safety activity throughout the lifecycle are 'risk analysis' and 'hazard control'. The safety managements and activities for the two kinds of aspects are implemented throughout the whole steps of system lifecycle. The risk analyses and hazard controls like those are needed, these activities have to be carried out through the whole of system lifecycle.

  • In this paper, we introduce the estimation method by Risk or SIL(Safety Integrity Level) for the criterion of safety assurance and summarize each application method and target. IEC 62278(EN 50126) which is international standard for the specification and verification of the railway system RAMS indicate a criterion of safety assurance. Especially, it recommend the safety verification by continuous verification as the order of requirement establishment, design, manufacture, installation, operation, and maintenance for the equipment not easy to quantify the operation environment. In this paper, we study the SIL requirement allocation method relating to internal new system development and existing system improvement by analysing SIL recommendations which were used to understand SIL for a train control equipment in 1990s in IRSE and theoretically their allocation background. This paper help the safety management of Korea train control system to develope the quantitative management procedure as international level by analyzing the SIL requirement allocation by operation agency and the right SIL verification procedure by manufacture and indicating the example to assure safety because it is necessary for improvement and localization for the Korea train control system having highly dependence on aboard technology.

  • A railroad has a benefit of the mass transportation of a passenger and cargo, but just a time of accident could cause a huge loss of a human life and property. Especially, a typhoon and a localized torrential downpour usually happened in summer season have caused average 38.29 times of the missing roadbed which support the railroad in recent 7 years. If a train would pass on this railroad which the roadbed was missed, there could be a huge accident and many people will die. But, the security issue is not satisfied because the method of sensing the missing roadbed is depending solely on the naked eye inspection by a person in charge. So, in this study, I would like to suggest the missing roadbed real-time sensing and train operation system to reduce the possibility of the railroad accident by controlling the operation of train when the missing roadbed condition would be sensed in the real-time system.

  • Rapid developments of industry and economics have made a metropolis which demands an effective urban transport management system (UTMS). Specially, this paper considers a subway surveillance system based on integrated wireless LAN technologies for public safety. Since a current subway platform security entirely relies on conventional closed circuit television camera (CCTV) or human operators, subway train drivers cannot detect platform states and cope with abnormal situations or accidents immediately. However, through the IP cameras and some wireless routers, high qualify images of the platform conditions can be directly delivered to the train drivers and other station employees in advance of train entering the platform. In this paper, several design issues and problems are discussed when building up the subway management system. Further, we illustrate a system model with the system requirements in real parametric values in order to draw concrete system designs and to realize a practical implementation of the future UTMS.

  • Recently the train indusrty come to the fore because of Punctual, eco-friendly transportation system and becoming the main transportation. The construction plans for the trian depot for train's maintenance and storage increase constantly. For past few years, there were many construction plans, Bubal train depot, Gwangju train depot, Duckha train depot. Proper track distribution plan is important to carry out the design of railway depot for efficient maintenance operation and train storage. Through the proper design of track distribution plan, we can shorten the moving time, train movement distance, waiting time in train depot. In this paper, the verification of the track distribution plan's efficiency and appropriateness for railway depot as Bubal train depot's plan is studied and analyzed with the train depot management simulation program-Posrail(v1.0).

  • This paper presents the overall measurement system for on-line test of super-speed maglev train. The super-speed maglev train is composed of vehicle, propulsion, power, and so on. In order to evaluate and diagnose for sub-system, we made overall measurement system. Just like the other measurement system, it is designed to distributed type. The hardware is consist of SCXI, PXI, Terminal, UPS, and so forth. It is installed on a train, control room, power room and track to collect lots of signals. The software controls hardware system, monitors main data such as inverter current, converter voltage. Using the measurement system, we evaluated a lot of performances for vehicle, track, and so forth. Through the developed system have improved reliability and safety for super-speed maglev train.

  • Line capacity calculation has been used to determine optimum efficiency and safe train service for train scheduling plan and investment priority order throughout detecting bottleneck section. Because of some problems of Yamagisi and UIC methods for line capacity calculation, developing of the method of line capacity caculation and evaluation for the Korea circumstance is important. This paper deals with the reliability improvement on the integrated system of TPS(Train Performance Simulator), PES(Parameter Evaluation Simulator), LCS(Line Capacity Simulator) and simulation and sensitivity analysis for line capacity.

  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles(HEVs) have seriously come into prevalence recently as car manufacturers and consumers have become more aware of the environmental and economic problems of conventional vehicles. For the alternative power-train and battery cooling systems in HEVs, an effective thermal management system is required, and many automakers are interested in using Brushless DC(BLDC) motors for cooling fans for the overall traction unit's performance and energy saving capability. This paper presents the development status of BLDC motors as major parts of the power-train, i.e. the engine cooling and battery cooling fans of HEVs. A design that uses BLDC motors for the power-train and each battery cooling fan, is successfully implemented through using electro-magnetic analysis, and prototype BLDC motors are examined. As experimental results, the BLDC motors achieved an efficiency of 85% as engine cooling fans and 72% as a battery thermal management fan motor. The electric cogging noise is significantly reduced by changing the skew of the slot pitch angle and optimizing the magnetic shape.

  • A Korea next-generation high-speed rail system represents a typical example of large- scale multi-disciplinary systems, consisting of subsystems such as train, electrical hardware, electronics, control, Information, communication, civil technology etc. The system design and acquisition data of the large-scale system must be the subject under strict configuration control and management. The system therefore, must be developed using systems engineering that is a efficient and effective methodology to design such a complex system and manage its development. This paper presents the results from a computer-aided systems engineering application to the Korea next generation high-speed railway project. Especially, the focus of the study was on requirement management and PBS management.
