A Congestion Control Scheme Using Duty-Cycle Adjustment in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 듀티사이클 조절을 통한 혼잡 제어 기법)

  • In wireless sensor networks, due to the many-to-one convergence of upstream traffic, congestion more probably appears. The existing congestion control protocols avoid congestion by controlling incoming traffic, but the duty-cycle operation of MAC(Medium Access Control) layer has not considered. In this paper, we propose DCA(Duty-cycle Based Congestion Avoidance), an energy efficient congestion control scheme using duty-cycle adjustment for wireless sensor networks. The DCA scheme uses both a resource control approach by increasing the packet reception rate of the receiving node and a traffic control approach by decreasing the packet transmission rate of the sending node for the congestion avoidance. Our results show that the DCA operates energy efficiently and achieves reliability by its congestion control scheme in duty-cycled wireless sensor networks.

  • Most of the current research works on high-technology is being carried on to provide ubiquitous services to people. To make that possible, ubiquitous computing networks should be deployed in the first place, where ubiquitous sensor network (USN) will take a very big role. This paper is devoted to introduce a new transmission technique to make USN more independent and reliable as an infra-structure for ubiquitous services. The proposed scheme can elevate the network performance by ensuring the reliability of data transmission. Especially, the proposed scheme can reduce network traffic and communication cost by detecting data error without additional data and communication. In addition, it has an advantage of using the legacy routing protocols.

  • Recently, there has been interests in smart vessel technology, and it needs to consider an intelligent control system for efficient vessel manangement. In a smart vessel, however, it can cause a network overload due to a number of data transmission from a variety of sensor nodes and bridge nodes. In this letter, we propose an data transmission scheme with data fusion to reduce the number of traffic from the sensor nodes. Hence it can decrease network overload for intelligent vessel management.

A Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation for the Efficient Transmission of VBR Video Sources in ATM Networks (ATM 망에서 VBR 비디오 소스의 효율적인 전송을 위한 동적 대역 할당)

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme for the transmission of VBR video source through ATM based BISDN. In order to efficiently evaluate the required bandwidth, the characteristics of the VBR video sources generated by the MPEG coder are analyzed with variations in the number of GOP and quantizer scale. The required bandwidth for VBR video source is estimated by a prediction algorithm using scene and frame correlations as well as the statistical properties of the VBR video source. Scene correlation represents a strong correlation among the adjacent slices in a frame, and frame correlation represents a strong correlation among the frames. The statistical properties based on the traffic parameters of video sources such as peak rate, average rate, and standard deviation of source are determined through simulation. The performance of the proposed bandwidth allocation scheme is evaluated in terms of the over-allocated bandwidth, bandwidth utilization, and cell loss rate with variations in the quantizer scale and the number of GOP. It is shown that the results of simulation based on the proposed scheme are superior to those of the conventional methods.

  • We introduces a wireless multimedia CDMA system configuring multiple transmission links between a user and radio ports. We propose a centralized reservation access control scheme with transmission scheduling and dynamic allocation (CRMA/TSDA) to support the diverse multimedia traffic in the introduced CDMA system. We propose two types of transmission allocation algorithms: slot and link allocation algorithms with local information and global information. The transmission allocation algorithm proposed in this paper allocates a set of ports configuring multiple radio links and transmission slot/power to each of scheduled transmission requests. We perform simulations for the proposed system and algorithms. Through the simulation, we show that the performance of the algorithm with local information stands comparison with that of the quasi-optimum algorithm with global information. Also, the two algorithms in the system has shown to have better performance than the conventional CDMA system with a distributed random transmission method.

Hardware based set-associative IP address lookup scheme (하드웨어 기란 집합연관 IP 주소 검색 방식)

  • IP lookup and forwarding process becomes the bottleneck of packet transmission as IP traffic increases. Previous hardware-based IP address lookup schemes using an index-based table are not memory-efficient due to sparse distribution of the routing prefixes. In this paper, we propose memory-efficient hardware based IP lookup scheme called set-associative IP address lookup scheme, which provides the same IP lookup speed with much smaller memory requirement. In the proposed scheme, an NHA entry stores the prefix and next hop together. The IP lookup procedure compares a destination IP address with eight entries in a corresponding set simultaneously and finds the longest matched prefix. The memory requirement of the proposed scheme is about $42\%$ of that of Lin's scheme. Thus, the set-associative IP address lookup scheme is a memory-efficient hardware based IP address lookup scheme.

  • Inter-vehicular communication suffers from a variety of the problem on the road, resulting in large delay in propagating emergency warning. An energy depletion as well as a transmission delay may induced by traffic accident. A transmission delay are caused by direct contention from nodes that can hear each other or indirect contention from nodes that can not hear each other, but simultaneously transmit to the same destination. A variety of works have been researched to solve the transmission delay and energy consumption problem in intelligent cars transportation systems. We consider a vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol for disseminating an emergency information that include end-to-end and energy efficient transmission. In this paper, we propose A vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol scheme for dissemination emergency information in intelligent cars communication based on IEEE 802.15.3 wireless personal area networks. Results from a simulation study reveal that our scheme can achieves low latency in delivering emergency warnings, and efficiency in consuming energy in stressful road scenarios.

  • In IoT(Internet of Things), it is important for wireless networks to communicate data created among resource-constrained wireless nodes, where time synchronization is needed for meaningful data creation and transmission. Time Synchronization by flooding is one of the mostly used protocols for WSN(Wireless Sensor Networks). Even though this type of scheme has some advantages over other types (i.e. a simple algorithm and independency of topology and so on), too many data transmission is required, leading to large power consumption. So, reducing transmission data is an important issue for energy efficiency in this kind of networks. In this paper, a new Flooding-based time synchronization protocol is proposed to use energy efficiently by reducing a transmitted traffic. The proposed scheme's performance has been evaluated and compared with an representative scheme, FTSP(Flooding Time Synchronization Protocol) by simulation. The results are shown that the proposed scheme is better than FTSP.

  • Recently, the needs for multimedia stream such as digital audio and video in the Internet has increased tremendously. Unlike TCP, the UDP protocol, which has been used to transmit streaming traffic thorough the Internet, does not apply any congestion control mechanism to regulate the data flow thorough the shared network And it leads to congestion collapse of the Internet and results in long-term transmission delay. To avoid any adverse effect on the current Internet functionality, a now protocol of modification or addition of some functionality to perform congestion control and to reduce huge transmission delay in transmitting of multimedia stream are in study. TCP-friendly congestion control mechanism is classified into two : one is window-based congestion control scheme using general window management functionalities, the other is rate-based congestion control scheme using TCP modeling equation. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for improving the transmitting rate on a hybrid TCP-friendly congestion control scheme combined with widow-based and late-based congestion control for multimedia stream. And we also simulate the performance of improved TEAR implementation using NS. With He simulation results, we show that the improved TEAR can provide better fairness and lower rate fluctuations than TCP.

Multiple Slot Reservation for Rapid Data Traffic Transmission in the Satellite Random Access Channel (위성 채널에서 데이터 트래픽의 신속한 전송을 위한 다중 슬롯 예약 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a multiple slot reservation scheme to transmit data rapidly in the satellite random access channel. In the R-CRDSA (Reservation scheme with Contention Resolution Diversity Slotted ALOHA), each satellite terminal can use only one slot in a frame. Therefore, many slots are wasting in the low traffic load and the satellite terminals which have large date needs many frame to transmit their data although there are unused slots. In the multiple slot reservation scheme, each satellite terminal transmits a packet with their data size and reserves many slots in the light of data size and slot reservation status. Therefore, each satellite terminal transmits their data faster than R-CRDSA. This is because they can reserve many slots in a frame. Furthermore, we simulate proposed scheme and validate the performance of proposed scheme.
