Realization of an IEEE 802.11g VoWLAN Terminal with Support of Adaptable Power Save and QoS During a Call (통화 중 적응적 Power Save와 QoS 지원이 가능한 IEEE B02.11g VoWLAN 단말기 구현)

  • There is a serious problem in an 802.11g VoWLAN (Voice over Wireless LAN) terminal that talk time is less than 30% compared with an 802.11b terminal. It is almost impossible to achieve talk time level of the 802.11b MAC transmission method because IEEE 802.11g uses OFDM modulation, which is a kind of multi-carrier method and OFDM transmission speed is 54 Mbps faster than normal modulation. In this paper, a new concept of a Holdover time as a power saving method during a call with 802.11g terminal is suggested for the first time. Increase in the number of engaged terminals as a result of holdover time causes to QoS problem because of the increase in the number of back-off and then contention window. In this paper, to solve the QoS problem, a new approach is suggested such that when in down lint the sequence number of 802.11 G.711 is analyzed in the MAC of the terminal and then the Hold over time depending on loss rate is changed. Also, consumption of an electric current of 802.11b/g and MAC parameter's performance due to busy traffic caused by increase in the number of terminal are analyzed and then real data using VQT and Airopeek are analyzed.

Fire Suppression Test using the Automatic Monitor System for Double-Deck Tunnel (복층터널 자동 모니터 소화설비를 이용한 화재진압 실험)

  • As one of the solutions to deal with economic loss caused by traffic congestion in metropolitan area, a deep underground road has been planned and implemented at home and abroad. The part of them has been pushed ahead with a double-deck scheme which has an advantage in constructability and cost efficiency comparing to traditional road tunnel. However, the double-deck tunnel has a lower floor height than the general road tunnel due to the special structure used as the upper and lower lines by installing the middle slab on one excavation section. Therefore, it is relatively weak against fire accidents and ventilation problems occurring in tunnels. Thus study to develop the life safety system optimized to a double-deck tunnel has been systematically carried out in order to overcome their weak point. In this study, automatic monitoring fire extinguisher (AMFE) is developed to suppress a fire and prevent its spread at early stage of tunnel fire, conducting the performance test through vehicle fire tests as verification. The tests were conducted with AMFE being 30 m apart from the vehicle and 10 m apart from engine room. As a results, it was confirmed that AMFE enables to suppress a fire and prevent its spread in both cases.

  • Road roughness, as the key factor influencing not only drivers' ride quality and safety but also pavement deterioration, is one of the most important pavement performance indicator to be evaluated by users' subjective assessment. For this reason, a specific number of the pavement roughness has been adopted to monitor the condition of a road for pavement management systems and to evaluate the quality of newly constructed sections, however, none of the unified methodology was internationally accepted. In Korea highway network, road roughness has been used mainly to evaluate newly placed pavement by using 7.6m CP (California Profile meter) to calculate PrI (Profile Index). But this instrument is manually operated to measure road profiles by traffic closure and their interpretation depends on personal bias. Therefore, problems arisen from the manually operated instrument will be overcome by using the APL (Longitudinal Profile Analyzer) which can be operated in the speed of 80km per hour. A study was conducted to correlate the relation from both concrete and asphalt pavement between IRI (measured by APL) and PrI (measured by 7.6m CP). Test results showed that there was a good correlation between IRI and PrI.

A Comparison of Concrete Median Barriers in terms of Safety Performance using Computer Simulation (컴퓨터 모의층돌시험을 통한 콘크리트 중앙분리대 방호울타리 형식별 성능비교 연구)

  • The concrete median barriers are the most popular safety appurtenance that can be installed on narrow medians and are effective in keeping uncontrolled vehicles from crossing into opposing lanes of traffic. It is necessary to install and maintain median barriers because it is very difficult to reserve enough room required for medians in KOREA. Also, concrete median barriers are accepted as the actual alternatives for median barriers, mostly because they require almost no maintenance even after serious collisions. Typical concrete median barriers are 810mm high and have 596mm high glare screens on top of them. However we have experienced a number of "climb" and "roll-over" accidents of heavy vehicles and most of all, there have been some serious accidents caused by the part of broken glare screens. So the improvement study of concrete median barriers started. Prior to this study, a new type of concrete median barrier was suggested which is 1,270mm high and has no glare screens on top of it. So it was required to compare the properties of various types of concrete median barriers including the new type to find the optimal type of concrete median barrier. In this study, we have evaluated the characteristics of four types of concrete median barriers (New Jersey type, F type, constant slope type, and wall type). We have performed many computer simulations for the evaluation of the crashworthiness of them, and through the simulations we have tried to find a proper type of concrete median barrier. Through the computer simulations, we evaluated the structural stability and safety of the four types of concrete median barriers. We confirmed the structural stability and safety of them But in regard to the probability of "roll-over" of heavy vehicles, the higher concrete median barriers showed better performances than the lower. As the result of this study a new type of concrete median barrier was recommended.

Three-year Analysis of Patients and Treatment Experiences in the Regional Trauma Center of Gachon University Gil Hospital between 2011 and 2013 (가천대학교 길병원 권역외상센터 3개년 내원 환자 및 치료 경험 분석(2011~2013))

  • Purpose: The first regional trauma center selected in Korea was the Gachon University Gil hospital regional trauma center; expectation on its role has been high because of its location in the Seoul metropolitan region. To determine if those expectations are being met, we analyzed the patients visiting the center and their treatment experiences for the past 3 years in order to propose a standard for the operation of a trauma center. Methods: The visiting route, visiting methods, performance of emergency surgery, the ward and the length of stay, the injury mechanism, the injury severity score (ISS), the department that managed the surgery, and the cause of death were analyzed for 367 patients visiting the center from its establishment in June 2011 through December 2013. Results: The mean age of the patients was 47 years (285 male and 82 female patients). A total of 187 patients directly visited the center whereas 180 were transferred to the center. Traffic accidents comprised the majority of injury mechanisms, and 178 patients underwent emergency surgery. The mean length of stay per patient was 11 days for those in the ICU and 27 days for those in a general ward. These patients occupied 4 beds in the ICU and 10 beds in the general ward per day. A total of 1.21 surgeries were performed per patient, and the mean number of surgeries performed per day was 0.49. The mean ISS was 15.91, and 183 patients (50%) had an ISS of ${\geq}16$. Thirty-one patients died; they had a mean ISS of 28.42. The most frequent cause of death was multi-organ failure. The mean number of treatment consultations during a patient's stay was 6.32. Forty-five patients (13%) were discharged from the center, and 291 (79%) were transferred to another hospital. Conclusion: A systematic approach to establishing a treatment model for trauma patients, including injury mechanism, multidisciplinary treatment, and trauma surgeon intervention, is required for treating trauma patients.

  • This study aims to evaluate the availability of ABM (Active-Based Model), FEATHERS, as a policy evaluation tool. To achieve the goal, scenario analysis on flexible working policy was conducted to measure its impact on activity-travel behavior. As a consequence, there seems no significant change in worker's daily life, other than mitigating traffic congestion due to decreasing commuting travel in the rush hour. The result of VKT (vehicle kilometers traveled) shows an opposite pattern according to given household/individual constraints. The scenario analysis on telecommuting indicates a decreasing trend in both travel frequency and distance because of the diminished number of commuting trips. As the activity space of telecommuters is shifted to a residential area, there are more short-distance trips by using non-motorized transport, which leads to decrease in VKT (using a private vehicle). Thus, the sensitivity of VKT by population groups varies due to transport mode shift (between personal and another mode) and growing non-work trips (using a private mode). This study found few things. First, it is necessary to evaluate the details of policy impact by population groups since it can be varied depending on household/individual characteristics. Second, the case study shows a promising performance of ABM as policy measurement that provides reality in policy evaluation. Third, ABM allows us to do more accurate analysis (i.e. time-series analysis by population groups) of policy assessment than those of FSM (Four-Step Model). Lastly, a further effort in data collection, literature review, and expert survey should be made to enhance the accuracy and confidence of future research.

Changes in Demographic and Housing Characteristics of New Towns in Korea: Focused on Five New Towns in Seoul Metropolitan Area (우리나라 신도시의 인구 및 주거특성 변화: 분당, 일산 등 1기 신도시를 중심으로)

  • In the late 1980s, 5 new towns such as Bundang, Ilsan, Pyeongchon, Sanborn, Jungdong were constructed to solve housing problems and to disperse functions concentrated within Seoul. As the city got matured, it began to appear the initial signs of urban problems such as aging of high rise-density apartment sites, traffic congestion, lack of parking spaces and aging of infrastructure. Therefore, in order to cope with urban problems, it is very important to apprehend the process of urban growth, its change and the feature of physical/human elements. So, the purpose of this thesis is to analyze the changes in housing and population characteristics for past 20 years by use of Census data from 1995 to 2010. First, the new town's goal of population and housing plan at the time of construction was analyzed how it was achieved, and it is close to the performance of the goal. And the trend of changes in the population and household characteristics was analyzed by every five year's data. As the result of analysis, it shows socio-demographic changes such as aged and elderly population growth, rapid increase in one generation's household and single person household, highly educated city, monthly rent household's increase and charter household's reduction. Results of this analysis can be utilized to aforethought management of new towns. But it is required more sustained and systematic urban monitoring and data analysis because the one-off analysis of the city's characteristics alone is difficult enough to grasp them.

Performance Evaluation of MAC Protocols Considering Various Input Traffic in WDM Metro Ring Networks (WDM 메트로 링 망에서 다양한 입력 트래픽을 고려한 MAC 프로토콜의 성능분석)

  • 본 논문에서는 광대역 통신 방송 융합 서비스 제공을 고려한 WDM 메트로 링 망을 위한 매체 접근 제어(Medium Access Control; MAC) 프로토콜의 성능을 분석한다. 현재 인터넷은 통신 방송 융합 망으로 진화하고 있으며 다양한 트래픽 특성을 갖는 서비스가 액세스 망에서 메트로 망으로 유입되고 있다. 그러나 기존 메트로 망의 MAC 프로토콜은 이러한 망 환경 변화를 고려하지 않고 단순하고 동일한 트래픽만을 고려하여 성능을 분석하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 메트로 링에 연결된 액세스 노드의 입력 트래픽을 Self-Similar와 Poisson 트래픽으로 분류하여 기존 MAC 프로토콜의 성능을 분석하고 평가한다. 메트로 링 망에 연결된 액세스 노드는 이 두 종류의 트래픽 중에서 하나를 망에 유입하며 채널을 공유하는 노드 수에 따라서 다양한 트래픽 환경이 고려된다. WDM 메트로 링망의 기본 MAC 프로토콜은 CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance)이며, 패킷을 빈 슬롯에 전송하고 송신지에서 패킷을 제거하는 SS (Source-Stripping) 기반으로 운용된다. 본 논문에서는 SS 방식으로 생성된 빈 슬롯을 바로 패킷 전송에 이용하는 방식과 그렇지 않은 방식을 각각 1-Persistent와 non-Persistent로 분류하고 MAC 프로토콜을 분석하여 기존 방식의 장 단점을 비교한다. 또한 전송 공정성과 처리율을 같이 고려하여 적용할 수 있는 확률 기반 p-Persistent MAC 프로토콜도 분석하였으며 시뮬레이션을 통하여 각 프로토콜을 노드 처리율, 전송 지연, 패킷 손실률, 전송 공정성 관점에서 비교하고 평가한다.y 수행을 여러 서버로 분산처리하게 함으로써 성능에 대한 신뢰성을 향상 시킬 수 있는 Load Balancing System을 제안한다.할 때 가장 효과적인 라우팅 프로토콜이라고 할 수 있다.iRNA 상의 의존관계를 분석할 수 있었다.수안보 등 지역에서 나타난다 이러한 이상대 주변에는 대개 온천이 발달되어 있었거나 새로 개발되어 있는 곳이다. 온천에 이용하고 있는 시추공의 자료는 배제하였으나 온천이응으로 직접적으로 영향을 받지 않은 시추공의 자료는 사용하였다 이러한 온천 주변 지역이라 하더라도 실제는 온천의 pumping 으로 인한 대류현상으로 주변 일대의 온도를 올려놓았기 때문에 비교적 높은 지열류량 값을 보인다. 한편 한반도 남동부 일대는 이번 추가된 자료에 의해 새로운 지열류량 분포 변화가 나타났다 강원 북부 오색온천지역 부근에서 높은 지열류량 분포를 보이며 또한 우리나라 대단층 중의 하나인 양산단층과 같은 방향으로 발달한 밀양단층, 모량단층, 동래단층 등 주변부로 NNE-SSW 방향의 지열류량 이상대가 발달한다. 이것으로 볼 때 지열류량은 지질구조와 무관하지 않음을 파악할 수 있다. 특히 이러한 단층대 주변은 지열수의 순환이 깊은 심도까지 가능하므로 이러한 대류현상으로 지표부근까지 높은 지온 전달이 되어 나타나는 것으로 판단된다.의 안정된 방사성표지효율을 보였다. $^{99m}Tc$-transferrin을 이용한 감염영상을 성공적으로 얻을 수 있었으며, $^{67}Ga$-citrate 영상과 비교하여 더 빠른 시간 안에 우수한 영상을 얻을 수 있었다. 그러므로 $^{99m}Tc$-transierrin이 감염 병소의 영상진단에 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된

Sampling based Network Flooding Attack Detection/Prevention System for SDN (SDN을 위한 샘플링 기반 네트워크 플러딩 공격 탐지/방어 시스템)

  • Recently, SDN is actively used as datacenter networks and gradually increase its applied areas. Along with this change of networking environment, research of deploying network security systems on SDN becomes highlighted. Especially, systems for detecting network flooding attacks by monitoring every packets through ports of OpenFlow switches have been proposed. However, because of the centralized management of a SDN controller which manage multiple switches, it may be substantial overhead that the attack detection system continuously monitors all the flows. In this paper, a sampling based network flooding attack detection and prevention system is proposed to reduce the overhead of monitoring packets and to achieve reasonable functionality of attack detection and prevention. The proposed system periodically takes sample packets of network flows with the given sampling conditions, analyzes the sampled packets to detect network flooding attacks, and block the attack flows actively by managing the flow entries in OpenFlow switches. As network traffic sampler, sFlow agent is used, and snort, an opensource IDS, is used to detect network flooding attack from the sampled packets. For active prevention of the detected attacks, an OpenDaylight application is developed and applied. The proposed system is evaluated on the local testbed composed with multiple OVSes (Open Virtual Switch), and the performance and overhead of the proposed system under various sampling condition is analyzed.

Development of Smart Wireless Measurement System for Monitoring of Bridges (교량 모니터링을 위한 스마트 무선 계측 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, a research was performed to develop a wireless measurement system for bridge monitoring using MEMS sensor and bluetooth wireless communication module. First, in order to prove the suitability of MEMS sensor for the bridge measurement, its ranges of measuring acceleration and of frequency response were experimented. Also, the quality of wireless communication was tested by an experiment on long-distance communication for the knowledge of maximum communication distance, and also by an experiment on the data transmit-receive capability both inside and outside of a steel box bridge. Later, placing the wireless acceleration sensor system that had been developed in our lab on a bridge in public service, we acquired vibration data from the bridge under traffic load and analyzed its dynamic characteristics in realtime. For the analysis of the data, NExT & ERA algorithm were employed. The result of analysis was compared to the FE analysis of the same bridge, and the comparison made it possible to evaluate the performance of wireless acceleration sensor system. As a result, it was proven that the wireless acceleration sensor system developed with the use of MEMS sensor and bluetooth wireless communication module could be effectively applied to the measurement of structure whose vibration feature was low frequency like a bridge.
