고속도로의 용량산정 방법론 개발에 관한 연구 (Development of New Freeway Capacity Estimation Method)

  • PURPOSES : This study aimed to develop a new highway capacity estimation method and provide comparative results among traditional capacity estimation methods and the recommended values in the latest version of KHCM. METHODS : The limitations of the existing methods, such as inconsistency and underestimation of the capacity value, are summarized through an extensive literature review. To overcome these limitations, a new method is introduced by adopting a definition of capacity and traffic flow characteristics at or near breakdown points. This method can produce the capacity value by searching a point corresponding to the maximum traffic flow through analysis of gradient changes (point of inflection) of the traffic flow and speed distribution. Comparative results of capacity values from each method are also presented to validate the new method by using data collected from detectors on freeways. RESULTS: From the analysis results, it is shown that a consistent capacity value can be estimated by applying the new method. In addition, the resulting capacity values are 3%-4% higher than those recommended in KHCM. CONCLUSIONS : The capacity values listed in the current KHCM tend to produce underestimated results. The new method presented in this paper may be included in the future edition of KHCM.

Multi-Scaling Models of TCP/IP and Sub-Frame VBR Video Traffic

  • Recent measurement and simulation studies have revealed that wide area network traffic displays complex statistical characteristics-possibly multifractal scaling-on fine timescales, in addition to the well-known properly of self-similar scaling on coarser timescales. In this paper we investigate the performance and network engineering significance of these fine timescale features using measured TCP anti MPEG2 video traces, queueing simulations and analytical arguments. We demonstrate that the fine timescale features can affect performance substantially at low and intermediate utilizations, while the longer timescale self-similarity is important at intermediate and high utilizations. We relate the fine timescale structure in the measured TCP traces to flow controls, and show that UDP traffic-which is not flow controlled-lacks such fine timescale structure. Likewise we relate the fine timescale structure in video MPEG2 traces to sub-frame encoding. We show that it is possibly to construct a relatively parsimonious multi-fractal cascade model of fine timescale features that matches the queueing performance of both the TCP and video traces. We outline an analytical method ta estimate performance for traffic that is self-similar on coarse timescales and multi-fractal on fine timescales, and show that the engineering problem of setting safe operating points for planning or admission controls can be significantly influenced by fine timescale fluctuations in network traffic. The work reported here can be used to model the relevant characteristics of wide area traffic across a full range of engineering timescales, and can be the basis of more accurate network performance analysis and engineering.

Big Data Based Dynamic Flow Aggregation over 5G Network Slicing

  • Today, smart grids, smart homes, smart water networks, and intelligent transportation, are infrastructure systems that connect our world more than we ever thought possible and are associated with a single concept, the Internet of Things (IoT). The number of devices connected to the IoT and hence the number of traffic flow increases continuously, as well as the emergence of new applications. Although cutting-edge hardware technology can be employed to achieve a fast implementation to handle this huge data streams, there will always be a limit on size of traffic supported by a given architecture. However, recent cloud-based big data technologies fortunately offer an ideal environment to handle this issue. Moreover, the ever-increasing high volume of traffic created on demand presents great challenges for flow management. As a solution, flow aggregation decreases the number of flows needed to be processed by the network. The previous works in the literature prove that most of aggregation strategies designed for smart grids aim at optimizing system operation performance. They consider a common identifier to aggregate traffic on each device, having its independent static aggregation policy. In this paper, we propose a dynamic approach to aggregate flows based on traffic characteristics and device preferences. Our algorithm runs on a big data platform to provide an end-to-end network visibility of flows, which performs high-speed and high-volume computations to identify the clusters of similar flows and aggregate massive number of mice flows into a few meta-flows. Compared with existing solutions, our approach dynamically aggregates large number of such small flows into fewer flows, based on traffic characteristics and access node preferences. Using this approach, we alleviate the problem of processing a large amount of micro flows, and also significantly improve the accuracy of meeting the access node QoS demands. We conducted experiments, using a dataset of up to 100,000 flows, and studied the performance of our algorithm analytically. The experimental results are presented to show the promising effectiveness and scalability of our proposed approach.

영상기반 차량인식 기법을 이용한 교통류 추정에 관한 연구 (A Study on Estimation of Traffic Flow Using Image-based Vehicle Identification Technology)

  • 교통 데이터는 교통계획이나 교통시스템 운영에 필요한 기초 자료이며 최근 ADAS 카메라로 측정한 선행 차량과의 거리를 이용하여 교통류를 파악하는 방법이 시도되고 있다. 본 연구는 영상기반 차량인식의 거리오차를 반영한 미시적 시뮬레이션 분석을 통해 교통류를 추정하기 위한 ADAS 차량의 활용 가능성을 살펴보았다. 차로수, 교통수요, 프로브 차량의 점유율(MPR), 시공간 검지영역 등에 따른 교통류 추정치의 표준 평균 제곱근 오차를 통해 분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과, ADAS 카메라의 최대 인식거리의 한계로 저밀도 교통류(LOS A, LOS B)의 추정치는 신뢰할 수 없는 수준이다. 다차로나 교통수요가 크고 점유율(MPR)이 높을 경우 추정치의 신뢰성이 개선될 수 있지만, 인위적으로 점유율(MPR)을 높이는 것은 현실적으로 어려움이 있다. 또한, 검지영역의 시간범위를 연장함으로써 추정치의 신뢰성을 개선할 수 있지만, 가장 크게 영향을 미치는 것은 ADAS 차량의 주행행태로서 해당 차량이 도로의 교통류와 상이한 주행행태를 보일 경우 그 추정치는 신뢰할 수 없게 된다. 결론적으로 모든 교통류를 정확히 추정하지는 못 하지만 ADAS 카메라의 성능이나 기능을 개선함으로써 ADAS 차량의 활용 가능성은 확대될 것이다.

차량 동역학을 이용한 멀티에이전트 기반 교통시뮬레이션 개발 I : 교통 환경 개발 (Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamic Model I : Development of Traffic Environment)

  • The validity of simulation has been well-established for decades in areas such as computer and communication system. Recently, the technique has become entrenched in specific areas such as transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and their driver's characteristics, even though it is known that they are important factors for any traffic flow analysis, have never been considered sufficiently. In this paper, the traffic simulation using a multi-agent approach with considering vehicle dynamics is proposed. The multi-agent system is constructed with the traffic environment and the agents of vehicle and driver. The traffic environment consists of multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals. To ensure the fast calculation, the agents are performed on the based of the rules to regulate their behaviors. The communication frameworks are proposed for the agents to share the information of vehicles' velocity and position. The model of a driver agent which controls a vehicle agent is described in the companion paper. The vehicle model contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation has proceeded for an interrupted and uninterrupted flow model. The result has shown that the driver agent performs human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful to fast and aggressive driving behavior, and that the change of the traffic state is closely related with the distance and the signal delay between intersections. The system developed shows the effectiveness and the practical usefulness of the traffic simulation.

고속도로 합류부 지점에서의 최적 검지기 설치 위치 산정에 관한 연구 (Studies on Determining Optimal Downstream Loop Detector Location on Freeway Merging Section)

  • 고속도로 합류부 지점의 감응식 루프 검지기를 통한 정보 수집의 질은 검지기의 설치 위치와 관련이 있다. 검지기로부터 얻은 교풍자료들은 안정된 교통의 흐름과 높은 안전 수준을 유지하게 위해 필수적으로 사용된다. 또한, 이러한 정보는 교통관리전략 위한 입력 자료로도 사용된다. 본 연구에서는 대표적인 교통관리 전략중 하나인 램프 미터링의 효과를 극대화하기 위해 고속도로 합류부에서의 검지기 최적 설치 위치를 통계기법을 이용하여 산정하였고, 주요한 분석도구로써 미시적 교통 시뮬레이션 모형인 PARAMICS를 사용하였다. 검지기 설치 위치 산정은 통계분석을 통해 도로 구간 별 교통류 특성에 매우 의존하고 있음을 규명하였다.

비신호교차로에서의 교통류특성 및 접근지체모형 개발 -상충지역 통행속도 이용- (Traffic Flow Characteristics and Approach Delay Models of Unsignalized Intersections Based on the Travel Speed)

  • The purposes of this study are to identify Traffic Flow characteristics and to develop approach delay model of unsignalized intersection based on the travel speed in the conflicting area. The results of this study are as following ; 1. The cumulative frequency distributions of Left-turning speed show a few differences among approaches and they are distributed to lower range of speeds. On the other hand, those of through speed show obvious differences among bounds. The similar results also show in the analysis of Percentile speed. 2. The effectiveness of conflicting movements to travel speed in the conflicting area are analyzed using regression analysis. Left-turning speed model shows that Left-and Right-Conflicting speed. Through-speed model is also developed, when approaching through volume is less than 420vph. 3. Since the lost time due to the acceleration stop, and decelerlation is occured in the conflicting area, approach delay model is delivered using the travel speed models under the condition of small queuing delay.

  • 일반적으로 도로시설의 기본구간에 대한 서비스수준(LOS)의 효과척도로 밀도가 사용되지만, 도로시설의 현장에서 관측된 관측밀도와 교통특성자료로부터 산정된 산정밀도사이에는 오차가 발생할 수 있기 때문에 도로시설의 서비스수준을 제대로 나타낼 수가 없다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 연구대상 도시고속도로의 본선구간 상에 관측기기를 설치하여 실시간의 교통특성 자료(교통량, 속도, 점유율, 차두시간, 차두거리 등)를 수집 조사하고, 수집 조사된 교통특성자료의 상호관계로부터 연구대상 기본구간 상의 최대 교통류율을 비교 분석하며, 비교 분석된 최대 교통류율을 중심으로 각 서비스수준별 점유율과 v/c비율사이의 관계에 기초하여 도시고속도로의 기본구간에서 서비스수준의 평가기준을 산정 평가하고자 하는데 있다.

광대역 혼합트래픽의 효과적인 분석 방법 (An efficient method to analyze the mixed broadband traffic)

  • After the introduction of ATM as a proper technology for B-ISDN, there have been many research efforts to realize ATM networks. But a computationally tractable modelling technique which reflects diverse characteristics of the ATM traffic accurately is not available yet. In this study, we try to establish an accurate but still convenient ATM traffic model. We first introduce the modelling technique for the voice traffic based on the fluid flow approximation. Then we present a traffic model for the mixed traffic from multiple video sources and voice sources. The video source model is based on the 3 state continuous time Markov chain. The accuracy of the model is demonstrated by some comparison results with respect to simulation.

Cell Transmission 이론을 이용한 동적통행배정기법 개발에 관한 연구 (The Development of A Dynamic Traffic Assignment Technique using the Cell Transmission Theory)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 기존 동적통행배정모형의 접근 기법과는 달리 교통류이론을 이용하여 동적분석모형을 구축하고, 이 모형에 적합한 동적통행배정기법을 개발하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 기존 동적교통류 모델 중 동적통행배정에 가장 적합하다고 판단되는 Daganzo의 cell transmission theory를 이용하여 동적분석모형을 구축하였으며, 동적통행배정기법인 분류부분할모델, 비용갱신모듈, 링크비용함수모듈을 새롭게 개발하였다. 또한 Daganzo가 명확하게 제시하지 않은 최대대기시간 결정 알고리듬을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서 구축한 모형을 가상의 네트워크에 적용한 결과 병목구간분석, HOV타로 효과분석등은 교통특성을 현실적으로 반영하고 있다. 통행배정결과는 수학적 기법을 적용한 동적통행배정모형과 같이 완전한 균형(equibriun)상태의 해를 보여주지 못하지만, 노선별 평균통행시간이 시간대별로 비슷하게 유지해나가는 결과를 보이고 있다. 본 모형은 고속도로 합류부 및 분류부의 교통특성분석, HOV 효과분석, TCS 및 램프미터링과 접목하여 고속도로 운영에 이용될 수 있으리라 판단된다.
