Achieving consistent geometric design is an important goal in highway design to ensure obtaining safe, economical and smooth traffic operation. Most evaluation of consistency is based on 'speed change' in speed profile. According to literature, the speed depends on geometric elements, speed on tangent section prior to a curve, and background around roads. Especially, the radius is the most main element mentioned in various literature. Therefore, this paper shows two ways of calculating horizontal radius on real road, that is, three-dimensional road. First of all, the radius of horizontal curve is calculated based on physical method. The calculated radius contains not only superelevation but also longitudinal grade while the current minimum radius is calculated by considering superelevation and side friction according to the point-mass equation. Secondly, the problem of composed curves with distorted appearance by overlaying sag or crest vertical alignment has been known. To quantify the extent of distortion effects, the method of calculation of real seen so called 'Perspective Radius' is developed. The paper presents the perspective radius and recommended perspective radius.
In the present work Einstein's(l942) suspended load equation IS refined in vanous aspects. After checking the flow characteristics a new method is presented for the estimation of zero velocity point at the condition of smooth turbulent flow, and non-dimensional number of suspended load is introduced for the clear representation of suspended load equation. And a recent equation of bed load is employed in order to calculate accurately the sediment concentration at a reference point. Several approximation equations are also developed to compute directly or explicitly two integrals introduced in the equations. The refined equation has been tested against the measurement data collected by Brownlie(l981) in comparison with Einstein's original equation.uation.
This study aims to develop mathematical models for estimating saturation flow rates at the stop line of signalized intersection due to Workzones in the vicinity, since the saturation flow rate is the most critical parameter in capacity analysis for signalized intersections. It was found by reference review that saturation flow rates are sensitively influenced by the location of Workzone, the number of lanes, cycle length and effective green time. Extensive microscopic simulation runs were also performed and compared to the those of mathematical models for model verification. Mathematical models were developed based on traffic flow theory and dualizing them by the location of workzones. And then each result produced by changing important parameter values was carefully examined and analyzed. Small but consistent differences in saturation flow rate values between mathematical models and simulations exist. However, the pattern of changes in saturation flow rates depending on each variable was similar.

This paper is aimed at developing an location tracking system of mobile station based on currently available mobile communication network or mobile Phone and PCS(Personal Communication System). When the location tracking of mobile stations is in services, Emergency-119, all of crime investigation, effective urban traffic management and the safety protection of Alzheimer's patients can be available. In order to track the location of the mobile and base station, assumption in this paper is to use the statistic characteristics of LOS when modeling the standard noise in case that radio path is LNOS environment. The standard variation of the standard noise is $\pm150$. First, location is estimated by the positioning algorithms of TOA and TDOA and compared each other. Second, after canceling the standard noise by Kalman filter, location is estimated by the above two positioning algorithms. Finally, the location by the Kalman filter and two positioning algorithms is estimated by smoothing method. As a result, 2 dimensional average location error is imvoved by 51.2m in TOA and 34.8m in TDOA when Kalman filer and two positioning algorithms are used, compared with the two positioning algorithm used. And there is 3 more meter improvement after smoothing than Kalman filer and two positioning algorithms used.
This study had a focus on investigating technical validity of Two-Lift Concrete Pavements which had never been constructed in Korea in order to olve the problem of existing concrete pavements. This study found out the application of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) which was one of ew techniques. Also, optimal steel fiber contents and pavement thickness were determined. This study also measured compressive strengths, lexural strengths, toughness indexes, tensile strengths and fatigue strengths to estimate the performance of SFRC of according to results of aboratory experiments, slumps and air contents of concrete specimens the standards satisfied and compressive strengths to open traffic. At bending ests, Toughness Index of SFRC increased but flexural strength didn’'t increase as compared with non-steel fiber concretes. And, energy absorption of SFRC was very good and SFRC showed improvement in freezing and thawing resistances. To complete this research, we will evaluate the pplication methods and performance of SFRC at field section.
Until now, several research on the relationship of traffic crash occurrences and geometric had been conducted and revealed that projects of road alignment, geometric improvement and hazardous segment selection reduced the number of accidents and accident severities. However, such variables did not consider the non-homogeneous characteristics of roadway segments due to the difficulty of data collection, which results in under-estimation of the standard error affecting the overall modeling goodness-of-fit. This study highlights the importance of non-homogeneity by looking at the effect of the non-homogeneous geometric variables through the modeling process. The model delivers meaningful results when using some geometric variables without relevant geometrics' variables.

With the advent of ubiquitous environments, the smart phone has come into wide use and the demand for various content increases. Thus, in order to efficiently utilize limited resources cognitive radio technology is regarded as a possible solution. Besides spectrum sensing or access schemes, the provision of VoIP traffic service for secondary users with limited spectrum resources is a very important issue. In this paper, a resource allocation and control system for VoIP QoS provision in cognitive radio networks is proposed. Firstly, as the system model, the time structure of the network is addressed and, according to the structure, a bandwidth broker is proposed. In addition, based on available bandwidth estimated by the bandwidth broker, a connection admission control for secondary users is developed. It is demonstrated that the provision of VoIP QoS is greatly affected by channel utilization, the number of channels, and the length of timeslot.

According to EMEP/EEA Emission Inventory Guidebook, the emissions produced by vehicle in cold start phase should be calculated differently compared to hot start phase. In this study, considering this driving cycle, more appropriate procedures for estimating Environmental Benefits was suggested. Using Tier 3 standard, all links within the impact area were included in estimating emissions. Traffic volume and travel distance were analyzed using EMME/3 software. For application of the procedures in this study, the case study was carried out with real transportation project. As a result, the Environment-Benefits increased by 30%. If the methodology suggested in this study is applied to feasibility study it will help to activate the investment of the environment-friendly modes like railway in the future.
Unit load approach has been used to estimate the non-point pollutant load in Total Water Pollution Load Management System (TWPLMS). In this study, locally applicable unit loads for road and parking lot were developed based on the measurements of 9 rainfall events from 2007 to 2008 in Yongin city of Gyeongan stream watershed. Observations showed that stormwater runoff began at low precipitation (>1 mm) and peak pollutant concentration occurred at the beginning of the runoff because of impervious nature of the sites. Averaged event mean concentrations (EMCs) of road (parking lot) were estimated as COD 105.36(62.69) mg/L, BOD 15.94(13.20) mg/L, TSS 183.45(66.52) mg/L, T-N 4.63(3.28) mg/L, T-P 0.45(0.39) mg/L. Higher EMCs at the road than parking lot may reflect heavier traffic. Unit loads Estimated from the EMCs and 10 year average rainfall data were COD $331.17kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, BOD $50.20kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, TSS $580.13kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, T-N $14.68kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, T-P $1.43kg/km^2{\cdot}day$ in the road and COD $186.59kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, BOD $39.22kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, TSS $199.15kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, T-N $9.70kg/km^2{\cdot}day$, T-P $1.16kg/km^2{\cdot}day$ in the parking lot. The estimated unit loads are not so comparable to the ones listed in TWPLMS technical guideline and published data that locally developed unit loads should be used to estimate non-point pollutant loads.

Variable message sign (VMS), which is used for providing real-time information on traffic conditions and accident occurrences, is one of the important components of intelligent transportation systems. It is essential that the scheme of VMS message phase and duration should be designed with the consideration of drivers' message reading time that will be depended on various causal factors, such as the amount of VMS messages, drivers' travel speed, and geometric conditions. However, there have been not much efforts to explore the relationships between the drivers' message reading time and the above causal factors. Driving simulator experiments were conducted to obtain drivers' message reading time with respect to the amount of VMS messages, drivers' travel speed, and different geometric conditions. Regression modeling techniques were applied to develop an estimation model for drivers' message reading time. Probabilistic outcomes of the proposed model would be greatly utilized to design proper VMS message phase and duration.
