PURPOSES : Traffic cameras have been installed to reduce traffic accidents. The effectiveness of traffic cameras has been proved by dozens of studies, but recently questions over its effectiveness have been raised by a series of studies. In this study, the effectiveness of traffic cameras was analyzed with a focus on different road environments. METHODS : The effectiveness of the traffic cameras was analyzed by extracting the occurence frequency before and after camera installation. The effect of reduction was analyzed comprehensively considering the installation position, monitoring direction, and surrounding environment of traffic cameras. RESULTS : The result of this study is as follows. First, the installation of cameras in an area with relatively low accidental traffic was more effective. Secondly, the effect of camera installation on car-to-pedestrian collisions was better than that of car-to-car collisions. Thirdly, accidents tended to occur more frequently when cameras were installed in front of the accident-prone owing to the negative spill-over effect. CONCLUSIONS : The result can be used to guide placement of traffic cameras. Moreover, the installation of cameras with consideration of the road environment is expected to contribute to a reduction in traffic fatalities.
This study highlights the main effect of job demand, work shift, work environment and stressors on the railway traffic controller's health, and the moderating effect of work0life balance. The result of empirical analysis based on questionnaires received from 328 traffic controllers working at 10 railway operating companies indicates that job demand, work shift, work environment and stressors have significant effect on their health, among which stressors is a major factor. In the respect of moderating effect, WLB showed no significance except for job demand. This result implies that controller's health can not be enhanced through their individual family or leisure life. Therefore, effective countermeasures and policy to mitigate their health problems and heal their symptoms are urgent.
This paper proposes drivers' rational belief formation under a bounded traffic environment. This is to escape the criticism that excessive rationality (e.g., a driver's calculating ability and memory capacity) is required of drivers. Under bounded traffic environments. drivers do not have structural knowledge of traffic conditions and others' decisions. Simulations are carried out using a program coded in C. Consequently, the author found the learning process of drivers and the value of information can be differentiated by route conditions and the characteristics of driver groups. Also, it was found that rational drivers form different beliefs about traffic conditions even though they have the same traffic environment in a bounded traffic environment.

In adjacent sea areas of Yeosu, there are many crossing traffics between eastbound and westbound vessels. Traffic congestion is increasing in sea area of east Sori island and near Yokji Island. In this research, we established TSS near Yeokmando Areas and new recommended route which connected to Seopdo west recommended route to reduce meeting traffic between eastbound vessels and westbound vessels.
Recently the road traffic noise has appeared as a significant environmental issue because of dramatic increase of vehicles and expansion of newly constructed road. Therefore, this study proposes the method that improves prediction factors and models through analysis of the existing road traffic noise prediction model. Prediction factors can be improved by establishing guideline for diffraction attenuation and applying daily traffic discharge, peak traffic discharge, and average traveling speed through an analysis of level service. Prediction must be made by periods of one or five years during 20 years. Prediction models also can be improved to include better prediction model through setting the database, establishing functional relation between physical properties and noise levels by acoustic analysis, and developing models for road traffic noise prediction in residential areas.

The purpose of this study is to analyze traffic patterns by use of TRANSYT-7F Model, and to choose the optimum traffic-light cycle length and cycle splite to improve traffic flow and air quality at Samsung Intersection in Seoul. Emission rates of air pollutants are calculated for three time segments 0700-0900, 0900-1800 and 1800-2000. The traffic volume correlated reasonably well with air pollutants emitted ; however, the phasing and timing of traffic signals was found to equally be important. The results of performance with optimal setting indicate that the best cycle length were 80sec(0700-0900), 95sec(0900-1800) and 90sec(1800-2000), res-pectively. As expected the highest emissions of air pollutants were observed during the evening rush hours (1800-2000). A properly designed signalized intersection can help reduce traffic delay, driver discomfort, fuel consumption, and air pollution by efficiently the capacity of existing intersection.

In this study, a traffic light recognition algorithm was implemented and validated for low-speed special purpose vehicles in an urban environment. Real-time image data using a camera and YOLO algorithm were applied. Two methods were presented to increase the accuracy of the traffic light recognition algorithm, and it was confirmed that the second method had the higher accuracy according to the traffic light type. In addition, it was confirmed that the optimal YOLO algorithm was YOLO v5m, which has over 98% mAP values and higher efficiency. In the future, it is thought that the traffic light recognition algorithm can be used as a dual system to secure the platform safety in the traffic information error of C-ITS.

The validity of simulation has been well-established for decades in areas such as computer and communication system. Recently, the technique has become entrenched in specific areas such as transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and their driver's characteristics, even though it is known that they are important factors for any traffic flow analysis, have never been considered sufficiently. In this paper, the traffic simulation using a multi-agent approach with considering vehicle dynamics is proposed. The multi-agent system is constructed with the traffic environment and the agents of vehicle and driver. The traffic environment consists of multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals. To ensure the fast calculation, the agents are performed on the based of the rules to regulate their behaviors. The communication frameworks are proposed for the agents to share the information of vehicles' velocity and position. The model of a driver agent which controls a vehicle agent is described in the companion paper. The vehicle model contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation has proceeded for an interrupted and uninterrupted flow model. The result has shown that the driver agent performs human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful to fast and aggressive driving behavior, and that the change of the traffic state is closely related with the distance and the signal delay between intersections. The system developed shows the effectiveness and the practical usefulness of the traffic simulation.

In recent years, the maritime traffic environment has been changing in various ways, and the traffic volume has been increasing constantly. Accordingly, the requirements for maritime traffic analysis have become diversified. To this end, traffic characteristics must first be analyzed using vessel trajectory data. However, as the conventional method is mostly manual, it requires a considerable amount of time and effort, and errors may occur during data processing. In addition, ensuring the reliability of the analysis results is difficult, because this method considers the subjective opinion of analysts. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an automated method of traffic network generation for maritime traffic analysis. In the experiment, spatiotemporal features are analyzed using data collected at Mokpo Harbor over six months. The proposed method can automatically generate a traffic network reflecting the traffic characteristics of the experimental area. In addition, it can be applied to a large amount of trajectory data. Finally, as the spatiotemporal characteristics can be analyzed using the traffic network, the proposed method is expected to be used in various maritime traffic analyses.
Traffic accidents increase with the increase of the vehicles in operation on the street. Especially big traffic accidents composed of over 3 killed or 20 injured accidents with the property damage become one of the serious problems to be solved in most of the cities. The purpose of this study is to build the discrimination model on big traffic accidents using the Quantification II theory for establishing the countermeasures to reduce the big traffic accidents. The results are summarized as follows. 1)The existing traffic accident related model could not explain the phenomena of the current traffic accident appropriately. 2) Based on the big traffic accident types vehicle-vehicle, vehicle-alone, vehicle-pedestrian and vehicle-train accident rates 73%, 20.5% 5.6% and two cases respectively. Based on the law violation types safety driving non-fulfillment center line invasion excess speed and signal disobedience were 48.8%, 38.1% 2.8% and 2.8% respectively. 3) Based on the law violation types major factors in big traffic accidents were road and environment, human, and vehicle in order. Those factors were vehicle, road and environment, and human in order based on types of injured driver’s death. 4) Based on the law violation types total hitting and correlation rates of the model were 53.57% and 0.97853. Based on the types of injured driver’s death total hitting and correlation rates of the model were also 71.4% and 0.59583.
