Recently, Collision Warning System is developed to improve vehicle safety. This system chiefly uses radar. But the detected vehicle from radar must be decide whether it is the vehicle in the same lane of my vehicle or not. Therefore, Vision System is needed to detect traffic lane. As a preparative step, this study presents the development of algorithm to recognize traffic lane curve direction. That is, the Neural Network that can recognize traffic lane curve direction is constructed by using the information of short distance, middle distance, and decline of traffic lane. For this procedure, the relation between used information and traffic lane curve direction must be analyzed. As the result of application to sampled 2,000 frames, the rate of success is over 90%.t text here.

A subsea pipeline designed across active shipping lane prones to failure against external interferences such as anchorage activities, hence risk assessment is essential. It requires quantifying the geometric probability derived from ship traffic distribution based on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. The actual probability density function from historical vessel traffic data is ideal, as for rapid assessment, conceptual study, when the AIS data is scarce or when the local vessels traffic are not utilised with AIS. Recommended practices suggest the probability distribution is assumed as a single peak Gaussian. This study compares several fitted Gaussian distributions and Monte Carlo simulation based on actual ship traffic data in main ship direction in an active shipping lane across a subsea pipeline. The results shows that a Gaussian distribution with five peaks is required to represent the ship traffic data, providing an error of 0.23%, while a single peak Gaussian distribution and the Monte Carlo simulation with one hundred million realisation provide an error of 1.32% and 0.79% respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that the multi-peak Gaussian distribution can represent the actual ship traffic distribution in the main direction, but it is less representative for ship traffic distribution in other direction. The geometric probability is utilised in a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) for subsea pipeline against vessel anchor dropping and dragging and vessel sinking.
Why do some countries walk on the right and others on the left? People have a dominant hand which leads to a natural tendency to favor one side of the road or another depending on the means of transportation being used. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the stereotype of Korean regarding preferred walking direction in encountering various facilities and provide the appropriate information to traffic policy makers. Six hundred Korean male and female subjects aging from 12 to 83 were selected to investigate the various statistics about their preferred walking direction and their employment characteristics on walking diverse facilities. The walking directions of eleven different facilities were asked along with other relative subjects' characteristics(e.g., age, gender, hand and foot dominance) to determine the relationship among these obtained data. The descriptive statistics showed that 73.7% and 26.3% were preferred walking right and left direction respectively. Moreover, various statistical analysis revealed that general tendency of walking direction was varied by hand and foot dominances. There were strong tendency that right-handed people prefer walking right side of the road and vise versa, hence this should be considered in setting up traffic policies. As a concluding remark, it is better to design traffic policies and regulations in the way that peoples' preference and expectation.
PURPOSES : Traffic cameras have been installed to reduce traffic accidents. The effectiveness of traffic cameras has been proved by dozens of studies, but recently questions over its effectiveness have been raised by a series of studies. In this study, the effectiveness of traffic cameras was analyzed with a focus on different road environments. METHODS : The effectiveness of the traffic cameras was analyzed by extracting the occurence frequency before and after camera installation. The effect of reduction was analyzed comprehensively considering the installation position, monitoring direction, and surrounding environment of traffic cameras. RESULTS : The result of this study is as follows. First, the installation of cameras in an area with relatively low accidental traffic was more effective. Secondly, the effect of camera installation on car-to-pedestrian collisions was better than that of car-to-car collisions. Thirdly, accidents tended to occur more frequently when cameras were installed in front of the accident-prone owing to the negative spill-over effect. CONCLUSIONS : The result can be used to guide placement of traffic cameras. Moreover, the installation of cameras with consideration of the road environment is expected to contribute to a reduction in traffic fatalities.

The seismic responses of traffic light poles are investigated using a finite element analysis. Among the traffic light poles, single- and bi-directional traffic light poles are considered since such poles are frequently installed on vehicle roads. For a more detailed investigation, three different lengths of the mast arm are considered for each directional pole. For a time-history analysis, six actual and two artificial earthquakes are considered and applied to each direction of the poles (x and y) to investigate which direction input provides more significant responses due to the unsymmetrical structural shape. Herein, the x and y directions are respectively parallel and perpendicular based on the single mast pole case. From the analysis results, the average maximum displacement response is developed with the x-direction input case for both types of light poles. Also, the bi-directional traffic light poles show a 13% larger response than the single-directional traffic light poles. Even though the y-direction input case produces a smaller response, the response difference between the single- and bi-directional light poles considerably increases by about 60%. The average maximum acceleration responses are almost similar for both types of light poles.
In this parer, we introduce an algorithm to control flows of the traffic in multi-intersections. It is pointed out that the main problem in traffic control is how to resolve the congested situations for the particular time-durations and directions. The heavy load to a certain direction usually leads the intersection to congested situations, and the adjacent intersections are affected. We control and analyze the traffic flow of multi-intersections consisting of five intersections, in which four intersections are linked to the four directions of the central one. The entrance of vehicles of each direction is described using the concept of probability. We compare the performance of the pretimed signal controls to the traffic adaptive signal controller using a Petri Net simulation tool, Exspect.
Binocular-pair images obtained from two cameras can be used to calculate the three-dimensional (3D) world coordinate of a feature point. However, to apply this method, measurement accuracy of binocular vision depends on some structure factors. This paper presents an experimental study of measurement distance, baseline distance, and baseline direction. Their effects on camera reconstruction accuracy are investigated. The testing set for the binocular model consists of a series of feature points in stereo-pair images and corresponding 3D world coordinates. This paper discusses a method to increase the baseline distance of two cameras for enhancing the accuracy of a binocular vision system. Moreover, there is an inflexion point of the value and distribution of measurement errors when the baseline distance is increased. The accuracy benefit from increasing the baseline distance is not obvious, since the baseline distance exceeds 1000 mm in this experiment. Furthermore, it is observed that the direction errors deduced from the set-up are lower when the main measurement direction is similar to the baseline direction.
This study deals with traffic accidents at the ramps of trumpet interchanges. The purpose of the study is to analyze the relations between tke turning direction of ramps (and combinations with other factors) and traffic accidents. In Pursuing this analysis, this study gives particular attention to the combination of turning direction and grade and the combination of turning direction and radius of curvature in the case of the trumpet interchange ramps. The null hypothesis tests show that the average accident number and average accident rate ate rejected at the 90% and 95% significance level respectively Also. the null hypothesis tests show that the combinations or turning direction and Evade as well as turning direction and radius are all rejected at the 95% significance level. In summary, right turn movements ate more dangerous than left turns on the trumpet interchange vamps. Also, ramps with a right turn and up grade or with a left turn and radius more than 200m have more traffic accident Potential than other types of ramps.

In this paper, we will make a model that finds optimal phase for each crossroad. When the traffic volume, traffic capacity, and the lane width of every direction is given for each crossroad, we aim to find the most efficient phase. We established an evaluation function that evaluates the efficiency of each phase using the values of the average waiting time in one direction, the average delay time, the standard deviation of the delay time, and the average delay time in each direction. The time allocation to optimize a phase pattern can be obtained by using the gradient decent method. Through this research, we hope to decrease the waiting time in transporation, thus improving the overall traffic condition in cities.
In this paper, we reviews the need and contents of aerodrome control simulator for air traffic controllers' training. In the view of managing the aviation safety, the departure and landing phases of aircraft are very important, because more than 60% of aircraft accidents and incidents have occurred in the take-off and landing phases. According to the benchmark each as practice type, simulation device and fidelity of reality of the air traffic control simulator, we have evaluated the implementation level of the domestic air traffic control simulator and checked up the current simulator's problems through the air traffic controllers' survey. Therefore, we suggest to the direction of developing a HI-FI simulator for aerodrome controllers.
