Evaluation of Sidewalk Level of Service Considering Land Use Patterns (용도지역 특성을 고려한 보도 설계 서비스수준 평가방안)

  • Pedestrians and vehicle users should be treated with equal importance in urban street design. However, current street design suggests that the design criteria for sidewalks is based on the functional hierarchy of the vehicles, therefore it is necessary to develop sidewalk design standards that give more weight to pedestrians rather than vehicles. For this, this study suggests that the level of service of pedestrians should be considered in the process of designing sidewalks. Currently, level of service (LOS) criteria for pedestrians in the Korean Highway Capacity Manual are based on pedestrian volume, but the volume of pedestrians is seldomly estimated in practice. So, the current LOS criteria has limitations in terms of practical use. Also, the study assumes that the pedestrian flow rate is hardly the dominant factor that could affect the LOS of pedestrians at most urban sidewalks. In this context, the study considers a new LOS for sidewalk design based on the comfort of pedestrians while passing pedestrians coming from the opposite direction. Then the study attempts to link the new LOS criteria to the land use patterns using data of pedestrian traffic characteristics acquired from the field. In addition to this, the scope in which the suggested criteria can be applied is suggested.

Development of Auto-calibration System for Micro-Simulation Model using Aggregated Data (Case Study of Urban Express) (집계자료를 이용한 미시적 시뮬레이션 모형의 자동정산체계 개발 (도시고속도로사례))

  • The application of micro-simulation model has been extended farther with improvement of computer performance and development of complicated model. To make a micro-simulation model accurately replicate field traffic conditions, model calibration is very crucial. Studies on calibration of micro-simulation model have not been enough while lots of studies on calibration of macro-simulation model have been continued in our country. This paper presents an auto-calibration of parameter values in micro-simulation model(VISSIM) using genetic algorithm. RMSE(Root Mean Square Error) of collected volume on the urban expressway versus simulated volume is set as MOP(measure of performance) and objective function of optimization is set as to minimize the RMSE. Applying to urban expressway(Nae-bu circular) as a case study, it shows that RMSE of optimized parameter values decrease 60.4%($19.3{\longrightarrow}7.6$) compared to default parameter values and the proposed auto-calibration system is very effective.

  • In korea, Freight generation models developed in korea were estimated by spatial unit method which predict freight flow by traffic zone. But it is difficult to predict freight generation using these models, because there are the difference of the totality method of sampling data on freight volume and the variability of the variables by these models on each case study, This study developed new estimation model to predict freight flow which is generated from each company using the characteristics of each company such as the freight outbound & inbound volume, the number of employee, sales, gross area, land area. This model is simpler than the that of spatial unit and can apply to the other region. The subjects of study were companies in metropolitan area and types of model were exponential regression models. The adequate explanatory variable in the models were sales. this study have a uniqueness apply micro research method to estimate freight generation not use spatial unit method but use flow unit method by each company unit.

A Study on the Improvement of Inter-Terminal Transportation Using Buffer Space (완충지역을 활용한 타부두 환적 컨테이너 운송 개선 방안)

  • Competition between ports around the world is intensifying to attract transshipment cargo. However, recently, there have been concerns about the departure of transshipment cargo volume at Busan Port, such as the lifting of the cabotage policy in China's shipping sector and the implementation of a safe fare system. In terms of operation, terminal congestion and vehicle waiting time are seriously occurring due to imbalance in the transshipment volume of each terminal and vehicles concentrated in a specific time period. In this paper, we propose a method of inter-terminal transportation (ITT) using buffer space to solve the problem caused by inefficient ITT systems and presented a mixed integer programming (MIP) for the problem. The effect of using the buffer space was analyzed for various work volumes and capacity fluctuation ranges by applying the terminal congestion pattern and ITT vehicle in/out pattern based on the Busan New Port data.

Region-wide Road Transport CO2 Emission Inventory (지역단위 도로교통 탄소배출 인벤토리구축 방법론)

  • Due to its excessive $CO_2$ emissions, road transport sector becomes a target for emission reduction strategies. Although precise and reliable emissions inventories are necessary for evaluating plans and strategies, developing the region-wide inventory is a difficult task mainly because of a lack of data including travel patterns and modal volumes in the reginonal context. Most existing inventory methodologies employ fuel sale data within the target region, which ignores actual regional traffic patterns and thus not suited to its geographical context. To overcome these problems, this study develops region-wide $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology by utilizing the Korea Transport DB (KTDB). KTDB provides a number of useful information and data, such as road network with which one can identify in and out trips over the entire region, traffic volumes of various modes, distance of travel, travel speed and so on. A model of equations that allow the computation of volume of $CO_2$ emitting from the road transport activities within the target region is developed. Using the model, numerical analyses are performed for the case of Busan Metropolitan City to demonstrate the applicability of the developed model. This study is indeed exploratory in the sense that using the existing data, it develops the $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology which can produce better results than those from conventional fuel sales methodology. This study also suggests further reresarch directions to develop more refined methodologies in region-wide basis.

  • The expressway of the Korea has an important role in freight movement because 76 percent of the commodity is transported by trucks. However, there has been few indices on the role of expressways regarding freight transportation and truck traffic. The objective of this study is to propose four freight transportation related indices using ITS-related system such as TCS and HS-Wim: total truck's travel miles ($veh{\cdot}km/year$), total freight transport miles ($ton{\cdot}km/year$). efficiency of truck's travel ($veh{\cdot}km/km$), and efficiency of freight movement ($ton{\cdot}km/km$). These truck and freight related indices were estimated and compared by two different data sources: traffic volume data using VDS and OD data using TCS. These indices were designed to estimated on real time and updated every day and month.

  • The purpose of this thesis is development of detection algorithm for stop-line detector. Detail detection area is set in basing detection area($1.8{\times}4.0m$) and traffic information(volume, occupancy, nonoccupancy) is collected by passive infrared detector at designing detection area. The basis detection area($1.8{\times}4.0m$) is named existing PIR and detection area applied on development algorithm is named proposal PIR. The proposal PIR is collected data such volume, occupancy, nonoccupancy, speed and lane change, but this thesis is limited to evaluate for volume, occupancy and nonoccupancy The procedure and each step of being developed algorithm is described in the next (1) The detection area of proposal PIR is made up of 2 of $1.8{\times}0.6m$ size(the detection area is named 1 and 3) and 1 of $1.8{\times}1.78m$ size(the detection area is named 2) (2) The image detection area is set on monitor to analyze outdoor photographing data then video frame analysis has been done by analyzer. (3) The occupancy, nonoccupancy and speed data of vehicle have been collected with the detection area 1 and 3 and lane change has been collected with combination of detection area 1, 2 and 3 The MAD and MAPE have been utilized to being compared with volume, occupancy and nonoccupancy for the field application and evaluation of a algorithm As the result, the proposal PIR data have been identified superior to the existing PIR data and the effect has been improved its information(volume, occupancy and nonoccupancy)

Calibration Method of Vehicle Weight Data from Weigh-In-Motion System According to Temperature Effects (온도의 영향에 대한 Weigh-In-Motion 시스템의 차량중량자료 보정기법)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the calibration method for temperature effects to improve the accuracy of the Weigh-In-Motion(WIM) system for collecting long-term truck weight data. WIM system was installed at a location where the truck traffic volume is high and weight data has been collected from January 2010. In this study, as a calibration measure, the first axle weight of Truck Type 10, the semi tractor-trailer is used based on the fact that the first axle weight is relatively constant, independent of the cargo weight. From this fact, calibration equations are developed from the relationship between the axle weight and the temperature(daily mean, maximum and minimum). Analysis on calibrated weight data shows adequacy of the proposed calibration method. Results of this study can be used to improve the accuracy of the WIM system and to carry out more rational design of pavement and bridge structures.

  • The Purpose of this study is to analyze wether the composition of training sample have a relation with the Predictive ability and the learning results of ANNs(Artificial Neural Networks) fur predicting one cycle ahead of the queue length(veh.) in a signalized intersection. In this study, ANNs\` training sample is classified into the assumption of two cases. The first is to utilize time-series(Per cycle) data of queue length which would be detected by one detector (loop or video) The second is to use time-space correlated data(such as: a upstream feed-in flow, a link travel time, a approach maximum stationary queue length, a departure volume) which would be detected by a integrative vehicle detection systems (loop detector, video detector, RFIDs) which would be installed between the upstream node(intersection) and downstream node. The major findings from this paper is In Daechi Intersection(GangNamGu, Seoul), in the case of ANNs\` training sample constructed by time-space correlated data between the upstream node(intersection) and downstream node, the pattern recognition ability of an interrupted traffic flow is better.

Duplicate Video Packet Transmission for Packet Loss-resilience (패킷 손실에 강인한 중복 비디오 패킷 전송 기법)

  • The transmission of duplicate packets provides a great loss-resilience without undue time-delay in the video transmission over packet loss networks. But this method generally deteriorates the problem of traffic congestion because of the increased bit-rate required for duplicate transmission. In this paper, we propose an efficient packetization and duplicate transmission of video packets. The proposed method transmits only the video signal with high priority for each video macroblock that is quite small in volume but very important for the reconstruction of the video. The proposed method significantly reduces the required bit-rate for duplicate transmission. An efficient packetization method is also proposed to reduce additional packet overhead which is required for transmitting the duplicate data. The duplicated high priority data of the Previous video slice is transmitted as a Piggyback to the data Packet of the current video slice. It is shown by simulations that the proposed method remarkably improves the packet loss-resilience for video transmission only with small increase of redundant duplicated data for each slice.
