고령탑승자의 좌석별 상해정도에 관한 연구 (Multinomial Logit Framework to Evaluate the Impact of Seating Position on Senior Occupant Injury Severity in Traffic Accidents)

  • A rapid increase in traffic accidents involving senior vehicle occupants has been an issue in Korea because of the aging of the population occurring at one of the fastest rates in the world; unfortunately, few studies beyond several looking at the effect of senior occupants on the level of accident injury severity can be found in the literature. A Multinomial logit model was estimated with Newton-Raphson algorithm to perform bias-reducing penalized likelihood optimization. Model covariates integral to developing the model were included, but the main focus was on the interaction of seating position and injury to senior vehicle occupants. It was found that the likelihood of an accident resulting in a fatality increased: 2.2 times for the driver seat, 2.7 times for the front passenger seat, and even 6.7 times for the rear seat. A mandatory seatbelt law to be extended to the rear seat needs to pass the assembly as soon as possible, and government, industry, and safety groups should be encouraged to join forces to strongly carry out targeted campaigns for the wearing of seatbelts in all vehicle seats to enhance the safety of senior occupants as well as other occupants who are vulnerable to road traffic accidents.

고령운전자 연령구간별 사망사고 발생위험도와 사고비용 분석 연구 (Study on Fatality Risk of Older Driver and Traffic Accident Cost)

  • Korea is facing a surge in the aging population, showing that population aged 65 and above will be accounted for 42.5% of the total population in 2065 with the emphasis on the over-80 population consisting of 19.2%. In response to this abrupt change in population structure, the number of traffic fatality accident referring to older driver as aged 65+ years had been increasing from 605 fatalities in 2011 to 815 fatalities in 2015 resulting in increases in 34.7% in oppose to happening to decreases in 17.2% about non-older driver. With Logit analysis based on Newton-Raphson algorithm utilizing older driver's traffic fatality data for the 2011-2015 years, it was found that the likelihood of an accident resulting in a fatality for super older driver aged 80 years and above considerably increased compared to other older driver with aging classification: 2.24 times for violation of traffic lane, 2.04 times for violation of U-turn, 1.48 times for violation of safety distance, 1.35 times for violation of obstacle of passing; also average annual increase of traffic accident cost related to super older driver was fairly increased rather than other older driver groups. Hence, this study proposes that improving and amending transport safety system and Road Traffic Act for super older driver needs to be urgently in action about license management, safe driving education, etc. when considering the increase of over-80 population in the near future. Also, implementing a social agreement with all ages and social groups to apply with advanced driver assistance system for older driver groups will be able to become a critical factor to enhance safe driving over the face of the country.

건설기계 교통사고 예방 대책 연구 (Study on the Prevention of Traffic Accidents of Construction Machinery)

  • 우리나라는 도로를 주행할 수 있는 지게차와 같은 건설기계가 유발하는 교통사고를 예방하기 위해 「건설기계관리법」 을 제정하여 건설기계의 안전성을 관리하고 있다. 하지만, 지금까지 건설기계로 인해 발생하는 교통사고에 관한 체계적인 관리는 일반 자동차에 비해 상대적으로 부족하였다. 본 연구에서는 건설기계 관리에 대한 해외 선진국 사례조사를 바탕으로 우리나라의 제도와 비교 분석하여 개선사항들을 도출하였다. 현황분석에서는 최근 5년간 전체 교통사고와 건설기계 교통사고의 추세를 제시하고, 건설기계 교통사고에 대한 사고유형별 특징과 사례를 통해 건설기계 교통사고가 발생하는 요인들을 분석하였으며, 도로이용자 인식조사를 통해 건설기계의 도로주행에 관한 의견을 수집하였다. 건설기계 면허를 취득하는 과정에서 발생되는 교육과정·시간에 대해 미준수하는 사례가 일부 발생하는 것이 확인되었으며, 운전면허증을 가지고 있지 않아도 건설기계를 도로에서 운행할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 제도적 허점을 보완하고 사후관리 대책 마련이 시급하며, 별도의 교통안전에 대한 교육과정 신설과 시설개선을 통해 안전한 도로주행 환경을 조성하는 것이 필요하다.

교통사고율에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석 (Factors Affecting Traffic Accident Occurrence Rate)

  • 2003년 1월부터 2008년 6월까지 5년 6개월 동안 대전지역에서 발생한 교통사고와 같은 기간 경찰에서 단속한 통계를 근거로 통계적으로 의미가 있다고 판단된 전체분석, 중앙선침범 분석, 신호위반 분석, 음주운전 분석, 무면허운전 분석, 이륜차 분석, 보행자 분석, 교통사망자 분석 및 교통안전시설 분석, 안전홍보 및 교육 분석, 차량등록 수와 교통사고와의 관계를 SPSS12.0 통계프로그램을 이용하여 분석을 시도한 결과, 의미 있는 결과들이 산출되었다. 교통단속과 교통사고가 일정한 상관관계가 있음이 증명되어 모형이 산출되었고, 교통단속의 효과는 일정한 시간적 간격을 가지고 나타났다. 교통단속과 교통사망자와의 관계는 상관계수가 너무 낮아 통계적으로 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타나 경찰의 단속이 교통사망사고 예방에는 거의 효과가 없는 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 지금까지 추진되어온 교통안전대책의 방향전환이 시급함을 나타내는 것이어서 보다 효과적인 대안수립이 필요하다고 할 수 있다.

  • This study investigates the delay declaration of the traffic insurance accident which is focused on a business truck causing the traffic insurance accident. The type of the delay declaration is classified as 15 types and it differs in level of payment of insurance money. It is most important that the support policy of government and the self-help of related business to reduce the delay declaration and pursue progressive solution. Moreover, it is essential not only introducing the strict regulation system but also adapting the various victim protection system.

철도관제사의 직무요구, 교대근무, 과업환경 및 스트레스 요인이 건강에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Job Demand, Shift, Work Environment and Stressors on the Railway Traffic Controller's Health)

  • This study highlights the main effect of job demand, work shift, work environment and stressors on the railway traffic controller's health, and the moderating effect of work0life balance. The result of empirical analysis based on questionnaires received from 328 traffic controllers working at 10 railway operating companies indicates that job demand, work shift, work environment and stressors have significant effect on their health, among which stressors is a major factor. In the respect of moderating effect, WLB showed no significance except for job demand. This result implies that controller's health can not be enhanced through their individual family or leisure life. Therefore, effective countermeasures and policy to mitigate their health problems and heal their symptoms are urgent.

대형로터리에서의 특수 회전교차로 운영효과 (Operational Effects of Special Roundabouts at Large-Scale Rotaries)

  • PURPOSES : The goal of this study is to analyze the operational effects of special roundabouts at large-scale rotaries in Korea. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attention to comparing standard roundabouts with special roundabouts. METHODS : This study reviews the various types of roundabouts, creates 270 scenarios, builds networks, and comparatively analyzes the operational effects by using VISSIM simulation model and SSAM(Surrogate Safety Assessment Model). RESULTS : First, the operational effects of standard and signalized roundabouts were analyzed, and it was determined that standard roundabouts are the best in the case of under-saturated traffic volume, and signalized roundabouts are the best in the case of over-saturated traffic volume. Second, the operational benefits of a Turbo roundabout were evaluated to be generally lower than the benefits of a standard roundabout, and the benefits of a Turbo roundabout increase when right-turn traffic volume increases. Finally, the safety conflicts of a Turbo roundabout were determined to be the least and decrease when right-turn traffic volume increases. CONCLUSIONS : This study suggests that Turbo roundabouts rank highest for safety, and signalized roundabouts are best for over-saturated traffic volume. This study can be expected to provide some implications for policy decision-making.
