Selection of the Optimal Traffic Counting Links using Integer Program Method for Improving the Estimation of Origin Destination Matrix (기종점 OD행렬의 추정력 향상을 위한 교통량 관측구간 선정)

  • When we estimate an origin-destination matrix from traffic counts. origin-destination matrix estimation from traffic counts according to the selected optimal traffic counting links is method for improving the results of origin-destinaation matrix estimation and for increasing economic efficiency. This paper proposed model of selecting traffic counting links using integer program technique, and selected a traffic counting links using this model, and estimated and origin-destingtion matrix from traffic counts according to the selected optimal traffic counting links. Also, we compared a result of estimating origin-destination matrix from the selected optimal traffic counting links using this model to a result of estimating origin-destination matrix from the randomly selected traffic counting links. The error analysis result was more improved a result of origin-destination matrix estimation using this model than a result of randomly selected links.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel traffic measurement based detection of network attack symptoms on high speed Internet backbone links. In order to do so, we characterize the traffic patterns from the normal and the network attacks appeared on Internet backbone links, and we derive two efficient measures for representing the network attack symptoms at aggregate traffic level. The two measures are the power spectrum and the ratio of packet counts to traffic volume of the aggregate traffic. And, we propose a new methodology to detect networks attack symptoms by measuring those traffic measures. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can detect the network attack symptoms very exactly and quickly. Unlike existing methods based on Individual packets or flows, since the proposed method is operated on the aggregate traffic level. the computational complexity can be significantly reduced and applicable to high speed Internet backbone links.

  • In order to calculate accurate traffic and traffic speed, qualified and sufficient GPS data should be provided. However, it is difficult to provide accurate traffic information using restricted GPS data from probe vehicles because of communication costs. This paper developed a algorithm that recovers links omitted by restricted GPS data with topology information, and calculate traffic speed with original links and recovered links. T traffic information service of city with a new algorithm can provide more accurate traffic and traffic speed than the original system.

Dynamic Caching Routing Strategy for LEO Satellite Nodes Based on Gradient Boosting Regression Tree

  • A routing strategy based on traffic prediction and dynamic cache allocation for satellite nodes is proposed to address the issues of high propagation delay and overall delay of inter-satellite and satellite-to-ground links in low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems. The spatial and temporal correlations of satellite network traffic were analyzed, and the relevant traffic through the target satellite was extracted as raw input for traffic prediction. An improved gradient boosting regression tree algorithm was used for traffic prediction. Based on the traffic prediction results, a dynamic cache allocation routing strategy is proposed. The satellite nodes periodically monitor the traffic load on inter-satellite links (ISLs) and dynamically allocate cache resources for each ISL with neighboring nodes. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed routing strategy effectively reduces packet loss rate and average end-to-end delay and improves the distribution of services across the entire network.

Selection of the Optimal Location of Traffic Counting Points for the OD Travel Demand Estimation (기종점 수요추정을 위한 교통량 관측지점의 적정위치 선정)

  • The Origin-Destination(OD) matrix is very important in describing transport movements in a region. The OD matrix can be estimated using traffic counts on links in the transport network and other available information. This information on the travel is often contained in a target OD matrix and traffic counts in links. To estimate an OD matrix from traffic counts, they are the major input data which obviously affects the accuracy of the OD matrix estimated, Generally, the quality of an estimated OD matrix depends much on the reliability of the input data, and the number and locations of traffic counting points in the network. Any Process regarding the traffic counts such as the amount and their location has to be carefully studied. The objective of this study is to select of the optimal location of traffic counting points for the OD matrix estimation. The model was tested in nationwide network. The network consists of 224 zones, 3,125 nodes and 6,725 links except to inner city road links. The OD matrix applied for selection of traffic counting points was estimated to 3-constrained entropy maximizing model. The results of this study follow that : the selected alternative to the best optimal counting points of six alternatives is the alternative using common links of OD matrix and vehicle-km and traffic density(13.0% of 6,725 links), however the worst alternative is alternative of all available traffic counting points(44.9% of 6,725 links) in the network. Finally, it should be concluded that the accuracy of reproduced OD matrix using traffic counts related much to the number of traffic counting points and locations.

Development of Traffic Accident Prediction Model Based on Traffic Node and Link Using XGBoost (XGBoost를 이용한 교통노드 및 교통링크 기반의 교통사고 예측모델 개발)

  • This study intends to present a traffic node-based and link-based accident prediction models using XGBoost which is very excellent in performance among machine learning models, and to develop those models with sustainability and scalability. Also, we intend to present those models which predict the number of annual traffic accidents based on road types, weather conditions, and traffic information using XGBoost. To this end, data sets were constructed by collecting and preprocessing traffic accident information, road information, weather information, and traffic information. The SHAP method was used to identify the variables affecting the number of traffic accidents. The five main variables of the traffic node-based accident prediction model were snow cover, precipitation, the number of entering lanes and connected links, and slow speed. Otherwise, those of the traffic link-based accident prediction model were snow cover, precipitation, the number of lanes, road length, and slow speed. As the evaluation results of those models, the RMSE values of those models were each 0.2035 and 0.2107. In this study, only data from Sejong City were used to our models, but ours can be applied to all regions where traffic nodes and links are constructed. Therefore, our prediction models can be extended to a wider range.

Opportunistic Routing for Bandwidth-Sensitive Traffic in Wireless Networks with Lossy Links

  • Opportunistic routing (OR) has been proposed as a viable approach to improve the performance of wireless multihop networks with lossy links. However, the exponential growth of the bandwidth-sensitive mobile traffic (e.g., mobile video streaming and online gaming) poses a great challenge to the performance of OR in term of bandwidth guarantee. To solve this problem, a novel mechanism is proposed to opportunistically forwarding data packets and provide bandwidth guarantee for the bandwidth-sensitive traffic. The proposal exploits the broadcast characteristic of wireless transmission and reduces the negative effect of wireless lossy links. First, the expected available bandwidth (EAB) and the expected transmission cost (ETC) under OR are estimated based on the local available bandwidth, link delivery probability, forwarding candidates, and prioritization policy. Then, the policies for determining and prioritizing the forwarding candidates is devised by considering the bandwidth and transmission cost. Finally, bandwidth-aware routing algorithm is proposed to opportunistically delivery data packets; meanwhile, admission control is applied to admit or reject traffic flows for bandwidth guarantee. Extensive simulation results show that our proposal consistently outperforms other existing opportunistic routing schemes in providing performance guarantee.

Improving Overall WMN Performance in Peak Times Using Load-sharing Aware Gateways

  • In recent years, Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a compelling topic to many network researchers due to its low cost in deployment, ease and simplicity in installation and scalability and robustness in operation. In WMN, Gateway nodes (Access Point-AP) are in charge of steering the traffic from the external network (e.g. Internet...) to client devices or mesh clients. The limited bandwidth of wireless links between Gateways and intermediate mesh routers makes the Gateways becomes the bottleneck of the mesh network in both uplink stream and downlink stream. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to permit Gateways collaboratively work to manipulate the traffic to fit our network. They will move the traffic from congested links to the unused capacity on other links.

  • A combination of VPNs and dial-up access, such as DSL and Cable, usually provides the cost-effective solution as the substitution of private networks on high-cost leased line. The business demand for high availability has increased with VPN spreading. This paper presents the schemes for a high availability of network access and a load balancing of network traffic in VPN gateways by using multiple links or multihoming capability based on active-active approach. The high availability and load balancing of network links can be achieved by duplicating external network access into multiple independent links. This can provide a continuous network connection to internal users even if one of the links is failed. Moreover, it can provide twice network bandwidth by distributing the traffic into the links. Static and dynamic algorithms are proposed as the load balancing algorithms.

  • This paper analyzes the range and attributes of the traffic information service between domestic public institutions and private companies, and suggests the possibility of joint application of node-link information for each company and the possibility of joint use of private traffic information. For this purpose, the present condition and attributes of domestic and foreign traffic information node-links (link length, node ID number, U-turn information, lane information, left turn information, right turn information, etc.) were analyzed. The analysis targets, the node-link of the national standard node and the two companies were analyzed. The area of the experiment was selected in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where standard-link information is complex, traffic volume is high, and various standard-links exist. The experiment was conducted by comparing and analyzing the traffic information attributes of three types of node-links and performing node-links overlapping matching (utilizing encoding_decoding method), and the possibility of matching node-links and attributes of different specifications was analyzed using Open LR technique.
