This research extracted traffic light from input video, recognized colors of traffic light, and suggested traffic light color recognizing algorithm applicable to manless autonomous vehicle or ITS by distinguishing signs. To extract traffic light, suggested algorithm extracted the outline with CEA(Canny Edge Algorithm), and applied HCT(Hough Circle Transform) to recognize colors of traffic light and improve the accuracy. The suggested method was applied to the video of stream acquired on the road. As a result, excellent rate of traffic light recognition was confirmed. Especially, ROI including traffic light in input video was distinguished and computing time could be reduced. In even area similar to traffic light, circle was not extracted or V value is low in HSV space, so it's failed in candidate area. So, accuracy of recognition rate could be improved.

Nowadays, a blind man finds it very difficult to cross the roads. They should be very vigilant with every step they take. To resolve this problem, Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN) is a best method to analyse the data and automate the model without intervention of human being. In this work, a traffic signal recognition system is designed using CNN for the visually impaired. To provide a safe walking environment, a voice message is given according to light state and timer state at that instance. The developed model consists of two phases, in the first phase the CNN model is trained to classify different images captured from traffic signals. Common Objects in Context (COCO) labelled dataset is used, which includes images of different classes like traffic lights, bicycles, cars etc. The traffic light object will be detected using this labelled dataset with help of object detection model. The CNN model detects the color of the traffic light and timer displayed on the traffic image. In the second phase, from the detected color of the light and timer value a text message is generated and sent to the text-to-speech conversion model to make voice guidance for the blind person. The developed traffic light recognition model recognizes traffic light color and countdown timer displayed on the signal for safe signal crossing. The countdown timer displayed on the signal was not considered in existing models which is very useful. The proposed model has given accurate results in different scenarios when compared to other models.

This paper proposes an improve method of the detection performance of traffic lights for autonomous driving cars. Earlier detection methods used to adopt color thresholding, template matching and based learning maching methods, but its have some problems such as recognition rate decreasing, slow processing time. The proposed method uses both detection mask and morphological preprocessing. Firstly, input color images are converted to YCbCr image in order to strengthen its illumination, and horizontal edge components are extracted in the Y Channel. Secondly, the region of interest is detected according to morphological characteristics of the traffic lights. Finally, the traffic signal is detected based on color distributions. The proposed method showed that the detection rate and processing time improved rather than the conventional algorithm about some surrounding environments.

A next generation video based car navigation is researched to supplement the drawbacks of existed 2D based navigation and to provide the various services for safety driving. The components of this navigation system could be a load object database, identification module for load lines, and crossroad identification module, etc. In this paper, we proposed the traffic lights and road sign recognition method which can be effectively exploited for crossroad recognition in video-based car navigation systems. The method uses object color information and other spatial features in the video image. The results show average 90% recognition rate from 30m to 60m distance for traffic lights and 97% at 40-90m distance for load sign. The algorithm also achieves 46msec/frame processing time which also indicates the appropriateness of the algorithm in real-time processing.
Traffic violations such as moving while the traffic lights are red have come from a simple omission to a premeditated act. The traffic control center cannot timely monitor all the cameras installed on the roads to trace and pursue those traffic violators. Modern vehicles are equipped and controlled by several sensors in order to support monitoring and reporting those kind of behaviors which some time end up in severe causalities. However, such applications within the vehicle environment need to provide security guaranties. In this paper, we address the limitation of previous work and present a secure and privacy preserving protocol for traffic violation reporting system in vehicular cloud environment which enables the vehicles to report the traffic violators, thus the roadside clouds collect those information which can be used as evidence to pursue the traffic violators. Particularly, we provide the unlinkability security property within the proposed protocol which also offers lightweight computational overhead compared to previous protocol. We consider the concept of conditional privacy preserving authentication without pairing operations to provide security and privacy for the reporting vehicles.
In this paper, we propose an efficient traffic light detection (TLD) method as an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) for elderly drivers. Since an increase in traffic accidents is associated with the aging population and an increase in elderly drivers causes a serious social problem, the provision of ADAS for older drivers via TLD is becoming a necessary(Ed: verify word choice: necessary?) public service. Therefore, we propose an economical TLD method that can be implemented with a simple black box (built in camera) and a smartphone in the near future. The system utilizes a color pre-processing method to differentiate between the stop and go signals. A mathematical morphology algorithm is used to further enhance the traffic light detection and a circular Hough transform is utilized to detect the traffic light correctly. From the simulation results of the computer vision and image processing based on a proposed algorithm on Matlab, we found that the proposed TLD method can detect the stop and go signals from the traffic lights not only in daytime, but also at night. In the future, it will be possible to reduce the traffic accident rate by recognizing the traffic signal and informing the elderly of how to drive by voice.
This paper proposes a new method of the traffic signal detection and the recognition in an HSI color model. The proposed method firstly converts a ROI image in the RGB model to in the HSI model to segment the color of a traffic signal. Secondly, the segmented colors are dilated by the morphological processing to connect the traffic signal light and the signal light case and finally, it extracts the traffic signal light and the case by the aspect ratio using the connected component analysis. The extracted components show the detection and the recognition of the traffic signal lights. The proposed method is implemented using C language in Raspberry Pi 4 system with a camera module for a real-time image processing. The system was fixedly installed in a moving vehicle, and it recorded a video like a vehicle black box. Each frame of the recorded video was extracted, and then the proposed method was tested. The results show that the proposed method is successful for the detection and the recognition of traffic signals.

This paper describes the use of fuzzy control and decision making to simulate the control of traffic flow at an intersection. To show the value of fuzzy logic as an alternative method for control of traffic environments. A traffic environment includes the lanes to and from an intersection, the intersection, vehicle traffic, and signal lights in the intersection. To test the fuzzy logic controller, a computer simulation was constructed to model a traffic environment. A typical cross intersection was chosen for the traffic environment, and the performance of the fuzzy logic controller was compared with the performance of two different types of conventional control. In the hardware verifications, fuzzy logic was used to control acceleration of a model train on a circular path. For the software experiment, the fuzzy logic controller proved better than conventional control methods, especially in the case of highly uneven traffic flow between different directions. On the hardware si e of the research, the fuzzy acceleration control system showed a marked improvement in smoothness of ride over crisp control.

In this study, traffic safety technology was developed for rural areas by reviewingthe relevant literature and data from the Traffic Accident Analysis System for the Chungcheong region. The goal is to reduce traffic accidents in small regional cities and rural areas in Korea. A road shoulder recognition light was developed to fit the pedestrian characteristics of the people using transportation in rural areas. It also minimizes damage to crops due to light pollution from traffic lights and street lights, and it supplements problems of damage from collision with vehicles and agricultural machines. The efficiency of the technology developed in this study was verified by comparing and analyzing the number of traffic accidents and the saved cost before and after its installation. A test bedwas established based on rural areas and is being evaluated for its applicability and effectiveness. It is expected that the reliability of such facilities could be improved through continuous studies, data collection, and analysis.

This paper presents an intelligent signal for controling the traffic lights on traffic junction network with dynamic traffic flow, When a junction is connected to adjacent junctions on four sides. Prior researches have been done on the single traffic junction. However, it is dificult to apply single junction controller to real traffic situation. In this paper, we develop a fuzzy taffic network controller which adjusts the extension time of current green phase by using teh fuzzy input variables such as the number of entering cars at the green light, the number of waiting cars during the red light, and the traffic volume. The proposed method was compared to the existing junction signal control methods on controllers in terms of average delay time of cars and the cost function defined in this paper.
