Traditional market which is characterized by the folksy retailing market has lost its competitiveness rapidly due to the emergence of the Internet and the change of customer's purchasing behavior. The recession of the traditional market contracts the regional economy. We suggest a u-Market, a traditional market with ubiquitous computing capability, to revitalize traditional market. The suggested u-Market system applies ubiquitous computing technologies characterized by communications between customers and objects without limitations of time and location. The proposed u-Market system offers location information and specific contents of traditional market to customers. Furthermore, u-Market system recommends the store and product list that customers are likely to visit and purchase based on their contexts, so they can save their time and effort to search the products or contents.

The challenge shop is a means of countermeasure for empty store at downtown in Japan and takes effect all part of the city from 2000. Local self-government, chamber of commerce and industry or other organizations introduce the challenge shop with the object of a nurture talent. Raises the talented man can be the commencement of an enterprise to empty store from the area. It will reduce the empty store. But it is hard to accomplish purpose of business only by the founder of recruitment in manage challenge shop. Even though the challenge shop is not making more active only one time that is contributing to business district. This study focuses on the key success factor based on the way of managing challenge shops in Japan and draws the conclusion from the domestic challenge shop of Anyang Central market and Daejeon underground Central market that one market-on-one university exclusive charge system produces founders of new business.
In this paper we aim to find out consumer behavior based on fish shares in their buying ingredients, path segmentation, product and service quality, customer satisfaction and then we try to analyze the impact of them on each consumer buying behavior. In this study, first, consumers, divided by general merchandise retail store and traditional fish retail store, these also divided by two groups that are with high spending group and low spending group, so totally we have four parts of consumer behavior segmentation market profiles. Second, we analysis the affect of each factor on consumer behavior. That is, we try to analysis the effect of product and service quality on customer satisfaction in four seafood market group. The results of this study are summarized as follows;
Purpose: Support policies for small and medium-sized retailers (SMSRs) have been promoted in various ways over the past 20 years, but they are generally regarded as unsuccessful. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process and impact of policy changes, identify the reasons for the lack of success, and explore policy alternatives. Research design, data and methodology: This study explored major policies in various categories such as the retail industry, traditional markets, and Micro-Enterprises from the mid-1990s to the present. It also analyzed the short- and long-term impacts of major policies at the retail format level like SMSRs, using data from Statistics Korea's service industry survey. Results: This research found that sudden shifts in policy philosophy conflicted with the existing market structure and reduced the effectiveness of policies. It also found that policies aimed at improving competitiveness at the SMSRs-level had some effect, while polices aimed at supporting expenses at the individual store-level were difficult to achieve their intended purpose. Conclusions: The failure of the policy to support SMSRs is fundamentally due to the late response and conflicts between policies. It was also not successful due to the policy's focus on individual store-level expenses and maintaining employment rather than structural improvements of SMSRs format.

The Gongju Sanseong Traditional Market, the subject of this study, was formed in the early 1900's, and along with the development of Gongju, it has been constantly changed and expanded up until now. The Sanseong Traditional Market located in Gongju, the Korea's representative historic city, exhibits merits in the aspects as a city based on the symbolic significance of the city where it is located and historical characteristics; however, it also presents some problems as well in consideration of user convenience and accessibility. Thereupon, this study conducted literature review on traditional markets, field research with a field trip, and a survey in order to analyze the spatial characteristics of the market environment and grope for the methods of activation. The conclusion suggested through this is as written below: First, the changes of types regarding spatial use according to the modernization project of traditional markets are essential, so about the spatial use according to the spatial changes, it is needed to distribute it balancedly considering the central space of the market. Second, with the understanding of the spatial types of traditional markets, it is needed to build a plan for alternation in the types of physical space based on that. Third, it is necessary to suggest the methods of integrated spatial use among standing markets and 5-day markets. In particular, through the approaches from the aspects of architectural and urban design and through reasonable spatial planning, a systematic approach considering the convenience of the users and merchants using it as their living space should be prioritized. And lastly, it is needed to reorganize the space according to the physical and non-physical methods in order to figure out the methods of activating traditional markets in agricultural areas and minor cities. With the complex approaches above, we can grope for the methods of activating traditional markets.
Most merchant of traditional markets think that the condition of market management is getting worse because of decreasing customers caused appearance of large retail stores such as discount store and changing of consumer's life style. Therefore special law was legislated for the activation of traditional markets in 2005. This special law include important articles about surroundings improvement, business management modernization and redevelopment of traditional markets. According to the small and medium business administration data, korea government furnished 177billion and 11billion(won) separately for the facilities and management modernization of traditional markets. Traditional markets of whole country planned and practiced modernization of facilities and management of traditional markets. And most of traditional markets interested in a large project such as establishment of arcade and car parking, remodelling of building, pavement of passageway etc. By the way, under the long term viewpoint, a large project presented above are not the best solution for the traditional markets because of its effectiveness. Maybe, for example, improvement of store signboard and display stand is more effective for the long time. As the problem of management modernization, yet a credit transactions. is the most important factor, only four markets have a plan for the credit transactions. And above all, we must realize that activation of traditional markets can be accomplished by merchant's own initiative participation.
The purposes o this study were to investigate buying behaviors of patrons of six retail store types for clothing and the satisfaction levels of the six store types (department stores, specialty stores, chain store, discount stores, bonded goods stores and traditional market), and to test the differences in purchase behaviors and store satisfaction levels among the groups determined by demographic characteristics. A questionnaire survey was administered to male and female university students living in the Seoul metropolitan area from April 27 to May 11, 1999 ; 443 were collected and 391 were used for the data analysis. Data were analyzed by SPSS statistical package. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Chi-square analysis and Duncan's multiple range test were employed for the data analysis. In terms of the store usage, most of the subjects tended to choose the store types they patronized for buying coats, suits, blouses, T-shirts, slacks/skirts and jeans items ; but, they used department store and specialty store for coat, suit, blouse, T-shirt, slacks/skirt and jeans for purchasing selected clothing items. Regarding criteria used for store selection, the most important criterion was the diversity of products offered and other store types. In terms of the store satisfaction levels of the six store types, the patrons of all store types were most satisfied with the stores they patronaged.
When Korea's retail industry was liberalized, new store formats such as large discount stores and Super Supermarket(SSMs) have grown. New types of business have borne significant influence on traditional market. Traditional markets have been in gradual decline since they fail to meet to consumer's purchasing behavior. The South Korean government has been making sustained efforts to revitalize the modernization of traditional markets since 2004. This research is conducted to analyze how changes in the distribution of different types of distributors influence the consumer's purchasing behaviors depending on the changes in the market environment. The purpose of this research is to present a policy to invigorate consumer-oriented traditional markets by analyzing the consumption behavior among major retail channels at a point when competition among retail channels is becoming intensified. In order to examine the effect of the spatial competitive landscape among major retail channels on consumption behavior, an empirical analysis was conducted with 613 consumers in 6 cities nationwide, using the multiple regression model. This research identified three main areas of factors. The analysis result indicates that the physical factor (time required to go to the traditional market), socioeconomic factors (the number of vehicles owned and average monthly income), and competitive factors (intensity of competition in spatial locations and average monthly spending in supermarkets) have significant influence on consumption patterns of consumers. The findings present that the Korean government should go ahead with policies aimed to revitalize traditional markets, keeping in mind the factors that influence the consumption patterns of customers based on these results. We propose that the policy supporting traditional markets need to be a customized-strategy, considering traditional market's characteristic.
Purpose - A traditional retail market is a place that offers economic opportunity to employees and employers alike it also is a place where the community can meet. The Korean government has invested three trillion won to improve physical and non-physical aspects in traditional retail markets since 2004. However, little research on this has been conducted. We explore this research gap that could lead to theory extension. We analyze consumption behavior with respect to traditional retail markets through an empirical analysis, thus overcoming limits in previous research. We empirically analyze policy effects of traditional retail market projects supported by the Korean government. Research design, data, and methodology - We propose a traditional retail market improvement plan via the relation between cause and effect resulting from the analysis. More specifically, logit analysis was carried out with 1,754 consumers in 16 cities nationwide. In order to analyze consumer consumption behaviors nationwide, the probability was analyzed using a logit model. This research analyzes the link between support and non-support by the Korean government using binary values. The dependent variable is whether Korean government support is implemented; the binomial logistic regression is used as the statistical estimation technique. The object variables are:1 (support) or 0 (nonsupport), and the prediction value is between 1 and 0. As a result of the factor analysis of questions related to attributes of service quality, four factors were extracted: convenience, product, facilities, and service. Results - The results indicate that convenience, product, and facilities have a significant influence on consumer satisfaction in accordance with the government's traditional retail market support. Additionally, the results reveal that convenience, product, facilities, and service all have a significant influence on consumer satisfaction in a traditional retail market's service quality and consumer satisfaction. Finally, the analysis indicates that the highly satisfied traditional retail market customer has a significant influence on revisit intention. Moreover, the results reveal that the highly satisfied traditional retail market customer has a significant influence on recommendation intention. Conclusions - This research focused on consumers nationwide to measure policy effects of traditional retail markets compared to previous research that focused on one traditional retail market or a specific area. We verified the relationship of service quality and customer satisfaction and consumer behavior based on service quality theory. The results indicate that consumer satisfaction of traditional retail markets supported by service quality factors has a significant impact. In a concrete form, the results indicate that these effects are from facility modernization projects and marketing support projects of the Korean government. The results also imply that these facility and management support effects from the Korean government have been consistent. We realize that the Korean government has to selectively support traditional retail markets in major cities and small and medium-sized cities. To that end, the Korean government needs to select a concentration strategy for the revitalization of traditional retail markets.

The study used GIS methods to analyze a business district consisting of traditional markets and large-scale stores, to determine the level of support needed for small enterprises in an urban area of Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. Data gathered on the area was analyzed using GIS tools such as Kernel density, Network analysis, and Huff modeling. Traditional markets are concentrated in areas where large-scale stores are located, and data analyses show that the number of consumer'use of large-scale stores (157,071) was three times that of traditional markets (59,953). One explanation for these results is that the large-scale stores are located either in densely populated areas or are adjacent to the traditional markets. Therefore, standards and regulations are needed to support small enterprise business districts. In the future, the results of this study can be used as a reference for planning and supporting traditional market business districts.
