  • Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) has been actively researched through various approaches, including computational methods. This paper aims at providing an overview of domestic studies using the computational techniques in TKM field. A literature search was conducted in Korean publications using OASIS system, and major studies of data mining in TKM were identified. A review was presented in six diagnosis fields, including sasang constitution diagnosis, eight constitution diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, pattern diagnosis for stroke, diagnosis based on ontology, diagnosis for cause of disease. They collect clinical data themselves for experiments and primarily applied a algorithm of decision tree, SVM, neural network, case-based reasoning, ontology reasoning, discriminant analysis. In the future, there needs to identify which algorithm is suitable to diagnosis or other fields of TKM.

  • The aim of this study is to confirm clinical usefulness of MCG data by analyzing korea medical results of heart disease patients. We used the Heart Disease Questionnaire which asks for Qi deficiency-pattern, Blood deficiency-pattern, Yin deficiency-pattern, Yang deficiency-pattern, Qi stasis-pattern, Blood stasis-pattern, Heart heat-pattern, Phlegm-pattern. Magnetocardiography(MCG) is the measurement of magnetic fields emitted by the human heart from small currents by electrically active cells of the heart muscle. Comparing the MCG results and korea medical diagnosis, we showed clinical usefulness of MCG results and korea medical diagnosis.

The theoretical basis forming the Tibetan Medicine is the substance of phlegm, bile, and wind each of which is divided into five kinds. These physiological substances can be transformed into pathological factors when certain environment is formed. 3. Ayurveda, Tibetan and Korean medicine, three main axes of the traditional medicine arouse western medical researchers' interest by their peculiar views of the disease and the system of their medical theories. • Objectives: Traditional oriental herbal medicine is used in cancer care to alleviate symptoms. Anorexia is a symptom which is frequently observed in patients with cancer and impairs their quality of life. The objective of this systematic review is to summarize current available evidence to evaluate the effect of traditional oriental herbal medicine on anorexia in cancer patients. Methods: The review evaluated randomized controlled trials (RCTs) measuring the effect of any types of herbal medicine on anorexia in cancer patients within 4 electronic databases and manual search up to December 2015. The Cochrane risk of bias tool (ROB) was used to assess the quality of RCTs. Results: In total, 11 RCTs met the inclusion criteria. All of the studies reported the rate or severity of anorexia improved after treatment in herbal-conventional medicine combined group compared to conventional medicine group. 7 of 11 studies showed between-group statistical differences. The methodological quality of RCTs was insufficient with unclear and high ROB. Conclusions: Traditional oriental herbal medicine may have a potential to improve anorexia in patients with cancer. To confirm the clinical recommendation, further researches with rigorous study design are required to support the effects of herbal medicine.

  • Objectives : This study seeks to grasp the current status of Koryo medical research in North Korea, by focusing on researchers and research topics. Methods : A network analysis of co-authors and keyword which were extracted from Koryo Medicine - a North Korean traditional medicine journal, was conducted. Results : The results of author network analysis was a sparse network due to the low correlation between authors. The domain-wide network density of co-authors was 0.001, with a diameter of 14, average distance between nodes 4.029, and average binding coefficient 0.029. The results of the keyword network analysis showed the keyword "traditional medicine" had the strongest correlation weight of 228. Other keywords with high correlation weight was common acupuncture (84) and intradermal acupuncture(80). Conclusions : Although the co-authors of the Koryo Medicine did not have a high correlation with each other, they were able to identify key researchers considered important for each major sub-network. In addition, the keywords of the Koryo Medicine journals had a very high linkage to herbal medicines.

  • Objectives : This study was performed to review the research trends in treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (O.C.D) in traditional Chinese medicine. Methods : We searched articles in CNKI(China National Knowledge Infrastructure) from 1995 to 2012 with key words, "强迫症", "强迫性神经症", "强迫神经", and "强迫性恐惧", and we selected 14 studies except for non-clinical, unrelated or insufficient number of case studies. Then we performed a systematic review of them. Results : 14 studies were divided into 8 case reports and 6 control studies. Most of the studies reported that one or more of Herbal medicine, Psychotherapy, Electroacupuncture therapy, Acupoint stimulating control, and acupuncture treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder were very effective. However, the quality of these clinical studies was not high. Conclusions : It seems that the researches for obsessive-compulsive disorder have been performed actively in traditional Chinese medicine. We hope that our study can activate clinical research for this disorder in Korean traditional medicine.

  • Experts of Sasang Constitution Medicine of Traditional Korean Medicine have classified stroke patients with four types of Sasang constitutions in their clinical practice and some types of Sasang constitutions have been regarded as risk factors of stroke, but this is uncertain because there were no evidences by large scale of prospective studies. The purpose of this was to study the association between strokes and Sasang constitutions. Case-control study has been conducted to the patients admitted to the research hospitals. The patients were confirmed stroke by brain MRI or CT scans and recruited from May 2003 to August 2005. The subjects who met the requirement of inclusion and exclusion criteria were 108 patients as the cases and 107 as healthy controls. Data collection has been performed by the trained specialists majoring neurologists through interviews, physical examinations, and laboratory testes. No statistical significance was obtained between the strokes and Sasang constitutions, yet Taeumin, and Soyangin types showed a trend of increase in the incidence of strokes as compared with Soeumin. To acquire more concrete data on this theme, we need further and large scale of prospective researches.
