Design and Implementation of parallel Media server in current system environment (기존 시스템 환경에서의 병렬 미디어 서버의 설계 및 구현)

  • As network resources have become faster and demands for multimedia service through network have increased, the demand for Media server system has increased. These kinds of media server solve their bottle neck problem of internal storage device by using parallel system which takes advantage of fast network resource. Many vendors have suggested each of their media server system to solve these problem radically, but most of them require major modification of infra component and additional drawback has added. For example, storage mechanism for specific media requires new file system which is totally different from traditional one, and algorithm for enhancing performance may not suit for traditional operating system environment. In this paper, we designed a parallel media server based on web interface of traditional system and implemented a program for media server. Implemented server system performs parallel processing through web interface without any modification of traditional system, and controls which is related to merging load by distributed data is charged only to client and control server and consequently load of storage server can be minimized. And also, data transfer protocol for streaming media includes Retransfer algorithm and client Admission control policy relevant to performance of whole system.

  • The role of the Engineer in the era of nano-technology is explored, a trend in manufacture which is expected to yield a $20-30 billion per annum business throughout the world by the year 2020. The engineers who will be working in this subject will be required to have broadly based experience, over a range of traditional disciplines, such as physics. electronics, software engineering, control and mechanical engineering. As well as having an appreciation of other disciplines such as air conditioning, vibration analysis and its minimisation, the selection of materials for maximum stability and minimal thermal distortion as well as an understanding of ultra precision design and nano tribology. In other words the engineer who is to be successful in this new and emerging field, will have to be broader based than engineers of the past, where it was traditional to break up the elements of a discipline to smaller subsets. But as nano-technology advances and the subject brings about the evolution of nanotronics to provide a successful solution to emerging problems, it will be essential for a breed of engineers to develop who can consider the subject in a holistic manner. This paper therefore considers the emergence of nano-technology, predicts the subsets of the development and places them in context of the new engineer which will be required in increasing numbers. The paper summarises the skills of the proposed nanotronics engineer and provides a basis for their training and development.

  • Major changes of the industrial engineering curricula in U.S.A. were analysed in three stages: 1938, 1958 and 1984. There are tendencies that the traditional plant operation oriented courses are combined and compressed to a few courses while the system oriented courses such as SA, OR, computer applications, man-machine systems are expanding. It will be necessary to organize a study group such as ASEE conducting further studies to meet our needs by upgrading the engineering curriculum for the coming 90's education.

  • The traditional speed and pole position sensors, which are inevitable to drive the permanent magnet synchronous motors, are removed by the parameter identification using model reference adaptive systems. Also, the current detecting method is proposed on the synchronously rotating axis without the position information, and this enables the implementation of the proposed algorithm. The proposed methods have been confirmed both by digital simulation and experiments.

  • A new finishing process, magnetic-electrolytic-abrasive polishing(MEAP), combining Lorentz' force effect in the traditional electrolytic finishing process was developed to realize the high efficiency as well as high surface quality of finishing . The paper describes the theoretical basis about the modification of electrolytic ions motion by the magnetic field. The effect of magnetic field on the electrolytic process was discussed was and analyzed from the result of model test.

  • Seawater desalination is the production of the water, suitable for human consumption, from seawater. Since the water supply produced by desalination is at least as good, in quality than that provided by traditional catchment, the decision as to whether or not desalination plant is to be installed should be made on technical, social, economic grounds. By analysis of these criteria, we selected some regions required seawater desalination.

  • Extreme sea statistics and combinations of environmental events or response for structures are very important problem in performance evaluation and design of coastal and Offshore structures. A probabilistic method is developed that leads to the combination of Typhoon (Hurricane) or winter storm induces winds, waves, currents and surge for a generic site. The traditional recommendation for the fixed structures is a combination of the 100 years maximum wave height with the 100 years wind and current. (omitted)

Optimal Control of Dualistic Economic Growth

  • The paper illustrates a possible application of control theory to an economic growth system. Simultaneous nonlinear system of differential equations has been modeled which is different from the traditional formulation, based on the theory of economic growth for a two-sector (dual) economy. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the optimal control are derived directly from the Hamiltonian, and the optimal controls are also obtained by solving simultaneous equations. Obtaining the trajectories of the optimal control and state variables, however, should rely on the numerical procedures. Empirical application has been conducted for the case of the Korean economy as an illustration.

  • Methods for calculating k shortest paths in a network system, are based on a analogy which exists between the solution of a network problem and traditional techniques for solving linear equations. This paper modifies an algebraic structure of the K shortest path method and develops k maximum flow methods. On the basis of both theoretical and algebraic structure, three iteration methods are developed and the effective procedure of each method are provided. Finally, computational complexity is discussed for those methods.
