  • This paper presents a novel discriminative visual tracking algorithm with an adaptive incremental extreme learning machine. The parameters for an adaptive incremental extreme learning machine are initialized at the first frame with a target that is manually assigned. At each frame, the training samples are collected and random Haar-like features are extracted. The proposed tracker updates the overall output weights for each frame, and the updated tracker is used to estimate the new location of the target in the next frame. The adaptive learning rate for the update of the overall output weights is estimated by using the confidence of the predicted target location at the current frame. Our experimental results indicate that the proposed tracker can manage various difficulties and can achieve better performance than other state-of-the-art trackers.

  • Features which exhibit scale and rotation invariance, such as SIFT, are notorious for expensive computation time, and often overlooked for real-time tracking scenarios. This paper proposes a descriptorless matching algorithm based on motion vectors between consecutive frames to find the geometrically closest candidate to each tracked reference feature in the database. Descriptor-less matching forgoes expensive SIFT descriptor extraction without loss of matching accuracy and exhibits dramatic speed-up compared to traditional, naive matching based trackers. Descriptor-less SIFT tracking runs in real-time on an Intel dual core machine at an average of 24 frames per second.

  • A new alignment calibration method of attitude sensors for the precisionattitude determination of a spacecraft based on the extended Kalman filter is proposed. The proposed method is divided into two steps connected in series: the gyro and thestar tracker calibration. For gyro calibration, alignment errors and scale factor errorsare estimated during the calibration maneuver under the assumption of a perfect startracker. Estimation of the alignment errors of the star trackers and compensation ofthe gyro calibration errors are then performed using the measurements includingpayload information. Performance of the proposed method are demonstrated bynumerical simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid target tracking algorithm which combine the conventional Kalman filter algorithm and the fuzzy neural network. Conventional methods are degraded in the presence of uncertanties and the environmental noise. These problems can be resolved by the proposed method. The training data for the proposed target tracker is obtained by the off-line simulation. Unlike other target trackers usging fuzzy inference system, our method can be easily integrated into the existing system. A numerical simulation is included to show the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • Recently, correlation filter based trackers have shown excellent tracking performance and computational efficiency. In order to enhance tracking performance in the correlation filter based tracker, search area which is image patch for finding target must include target. In this paper, two methods to discriminatively represent target in the search area are proposed. Firstly, search area location is estimated using pyramidal Lucas-Kanade algorithm. By estimating search area location before filtering, fast motion target can be included in the search area. Secondly, we investigate multi-channel Local Edge Pattern(LEP) which is insensitive to illumination and noise variation. Qualitative and quantitative experiments are performed with eight dataset, which includes ground truth. In comparison with method without search area estimation, our approach retain tracking for the fast motion target. Additionally, the proposed multi-channel LEP improves discriminative performance compare to existing features.

  • This letter presents a multi-modal approach to tracking geographic objects such as buildings and road signs in a video sequence recorded from a moving vehicle. In the proposed approach, photogrammetric techniques are successfully combined with conventional tracking methods. More specifically, photogrammetry combined with positioning technologies is used to obtain 3-D coordinates of chosen geographic objects, providing a search area for conventional feature trackers. In addition, we present an adaptive window decision scheme based on the distance between chosen objects and a moving vehicle. Experimental results are provided to show the robustness of the proposed approach.

  • We propose a novel multiple-object tracking algorithm for real-time intelligent video surveillance. We adopt particle filtering as our tracking framework. Background modeling and subtraction are used to generate a region of interest. A two-step pedestrian detection is employed to reduce the computation time of the algorithm, and an iterative particle repropagation method is proposed to enhance its tracking accuracy. A matching score for greedy data association is proposed to assign the detection results of the two-step pedestrian detector to trackers. Various experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm tracks multiple objects accurately and precisely in real time.

  • In this paper, we propose the novel tracking method which uses the weighted discriminative correlation filter (DCF). We also propose the PSPR instead of conventional PSR as tracker performance evaluation method. The proposed tracking method uses multiple DCF to estimates the target position. In addition, our proposed method reflects more weights on the correlation response of the tracker which is expected to have more performance using PSPR. While existing multi-DCF-based tracker calculates the final correlation response by directly summing correlation responses from each tracker, the proposed method acquires the final correlation response by weighted combining of correlation responses from the selected trackers robust to given environment. Accordingly, the proposed method can provide high performance tracking in various and complex background compared to multi-DCF based tracker. Through a series of tracking experiments for various video data, the presented method showed better performance than a single feature-based tracker and also than a multi-DCF based tracker.

  • Spin reticle infrared seekers have good linearity, and the pulse-modulated reticle seekers have good digital characteristics for anti-jamming processing. A basic design for a spin pulse-modulated reticle is introduced. This design uses the rotating design of the optical system in the spin infrared seekers and an improved design of the reticle in the pulse-modulated seekers. The reticle contains a unique well-designed slit to produce one pulse for each target in the spinning period. The target data will be carried by the unique pulse parameters. A simulation tool is implemented using the MATLAB packages for analyzing and evaluating the new design.

  • The efficiency of photovoltaic generation systems depends on the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique. Among the various schemes presented in the literature, the incremental conductance (INC) method is one of the most frequently used due to its superb tracking ability under changes in insolation and temperature. Generally, conventional INC algorithms implement a simple duty-cycle updating rule that is mainly found on the polarity of the peak-power evaluation function. However, this fails to maximize the performance in both steady-state and transient conditions. In order to overcome this limitation, a novel regulated INC (r-INC) method is proposed in this paper. Like the compensators in automatic control systems, this method applies a digital compensator to evaluate the INC function and improve the capability of power tracking. Precise modeling of a new MPPT system is also presented in the optimized design process. A 120W boost peak power tracker is utilized to obtain comparative test results and to confirm the superiority of the proposed method over existing techniques.
