Track maintenance works based on track geometry recordings are essential to enhance the safety and comfort of railway transportation. Usually, the track irregularity has been measured by a special inspection trains which all were imported from abroad. Because the inspection train speed is limited under 160 km/h, it takes a long time to inspect railways and there is difficulty in daytime operation. To solve this problem, we started to develop a track geometry measuring system (TGMS) with measurement speed up to 300 km/h which can be installed in commercial vehicles such as HEMU-430X. In this paper, we introduce a newly developed inertial TGMS and propose two inertial navigation system (INS) algorithms (method A, B) for measuring track geometry. In order to investigate advantage and disadvantage of each algorithm, we performed vibration test of the TGMS, which was simulated by 6-axis shaking table. Through the vibration test, we analyzed the influence of vehicle vibration on the TGMS which will be installed on bogie frame. To the vibration test, two methods satisfied the required accuracy of track geometry measurement under the level of the actual vehicle vibration of HEMU-430X train. Theoretically, method A is sensitive to vehicle vibration than method B. However, HEMU-430X's bogie vibration frequency range is out of interest range of measurement system. Therefore, method A can also apply the HEMU-430X train.
The structural responses are often used to identify the structural local damages. However, it is usually difficult to gain the responses of the track, as the sensors cannot be installed on the track directly. The vehicles running on a track excite track vibration and can also serve as response receivers because the vehicle dynamic response contains the vibration information of the track. A damage identification method using the vehicle responses and sensitivity analysis is proposed for the vehicle-track coupling system in this paper. Different from most damage identification methods of vehicle-track coupling system, which require the structural responses, only the vehicle responses are required in the proposed method. The local damages are identified by a sensitivity-based model updating process. In the vehicle-track coupling system, the track is modeled as a discrete point supported Euler-Bernoulli beam, and two vehicle models are proposed to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of damage identification. The measured track irregularity is considered in the calculation of vehicle dynamic responses. The measurement noises are also considered to study their effects to the damage identification results. The identified results demonstrate that the proposed method is capable to identify the local damages of the track accurately in different noise levels with only the vehicle responses.
KHST(Korean High Speed Train) has been utilized the total measurement system which evaluates the efficiency and a breakdown of the vehicle and it's results effect to secure reliability of the vehicle. Generally KHST has been received pulse signals from the wheel. It calculates the travel distance after counter the signals to confirm location information of the vehicle. However, there is a limit to measure the location of the vehicle due to slip, slide and the wheel attrition. We have developed a new measurement system by using GPS to complement those errors. In general, GPS receivers are composed of an antenna, tuned to the frequencies transmitted by the satellites, receiver-processors, and a highly-stable clock The GPS mounted on the roof of TT4 in KHST receives a signal from the RS232 communication port. It is connected to the network system in TT3 after converting with TCPIP communication. It is able to track the position of vehicle and synchronize the signal from different measurement system simultaneously. Therefore it is able to chase the fault occurrence, track inspection and electrical interruption at real-time situation more accurately. There is not an error coursed by vehicle conditions such as slip and the slide.
Vehicle dynamic behavior should be investigated to establish the track irregularity criteria because they have an impact on vehicle dynamic behavior. The influence of twist on running behavior and safety for KTX was instigated by numerical analysis among track geometry quality parameters such as vertical alignment, lateral alignment, twist and track gauge in this paper. The wavelength and amplitude of twist were considered in scenario of this numerical analysis. This research is based on just numerical analysis and the final result which include measurement will be published in the future.
This paper presents the overall measurement system for on-line test of super-speed maglev train. The super-speed maglev train is composed of vehicle, propulsion, power, and so on. In order to evaluate and diagnose for sub-system, we made overall measurement system. Just like the other measurement system, it is designed to distributed type. The hardware is consist of SCXI, PXI, Terminal, UPS, and so forth. It is installed on a train, control room, power room and track to collect lots of signals. The software controls hardware system, monitors main data such as inverter current, converter voltage. Using the measurement system, we evaluated a lot of performances for vehicle, track, and so forth. Through the developed system have improved reliability and safety for super-speed maglev train.
The running safety of rolling stock is assessed by derailment coefficient. It requires lots of preparatory time, expenditure and high measurement technique to measure derailment coefficient. If derailment coefficient could be measured when track or vehicle is maintained, safety will be improved. The measurement and assessment of running safety is necessary for safety especially for the vehicles newly developed and started service. Therefore measurement of derailment coefficient is most important thing to secure running safety. In this paper, we examined new assessment method which could estimate derailment coefficient by measuring vibration acceleration and displacement of vehicle operating at actual track irrespective of time and place. The new method could be used effectively as a mean confirming running safety.
This paper is focused on development of models for measuring lateral and vertical track irregularities from corresponding accelerometers of an in-service high-speed train. Generally, the track irregularity was measured by a special railway inspection vehicle or system with contact or non-contact sensors. However, the sensors are very expensive and vulnerable to a harsh environment. Displacement estimation from an inertial measurement unit and its wave-band filtering was already developed in the previous study, and it was found that their results included not only the track irregularities but also other information such as phase delay of the applied filters, and suspension and conicity of the wheel. To identify the track irregularities from those results, a compensation filtering method was proposed. Each directional compensation filter was derived by using a system identification method with the estimated directional displacement as input and the corresponding track irregularities as output. In this paper, they are integrated into a model for each direction and applied to the measured lateral and vertical acceleration data from the axle-box and bogie of an in-service high-speed train. Their results are compared with the data from the track geometry measurement system. From the comparison, the proposed models are a useful tool for the measurement of the track irregularities using accelerometers of in-service high-speed trains.
