Computer simulation was carried out to develop the tracer composition of a high performance to be able to be observed by not only the naked eye but also the thermal imaging system attached to the weapon system. The results of computer simulation show that the optimum Mg content among the trace compositions is about 40% and the formulation consisted of Viton A has a higher flame temperature compared with that of chloride compound. But the only use of Viton A radiates a yellow light and the composition adding a chloride compound radiates the red light. The light intensity of the tracer composition involving Viton A is higher than that of chloride compound. The tracer composition involving Viton A shows more clear images in case of all tests.
We present a Brownian dynamics simulation study on the diffusion of a neutral tracer particle confined in a regularly crosslinked polymer network, especially, when the tracer size is comparable to the mesh size of the network. Polymer networks with different mesh sizes are prepared and compressed to the extent that the total polymer densities become the same. Irrespective of the network mesh size, the tracer diffusion in the networks is slowed down, showing the subdiffusion on intermediate time scales followed by the normal diffusion at long times. However, the confinement effect on the tracer diffusion becomes more significant when network strands are tightly stretched with smaller mesh size. The time scales of dynamic transitions are analyzed in terms of the probability distribution of time-correlated particle displacements.
Reynolds and Froude numbers, along with tracer tests, have been widely used to estimate hydrodynamics in full-scale horizontal sedimentation basin in water treatment plants (WTPs). In spite of this, the former numbers do not reflect actual operating conditions, instead most often being based on the dimensions of the structures. The index and graphic analyses most often used were found to be too subjective to accurately analyze tracer test results. In order to overcome these limitations, dispersion number was applied for analysis of tracer test results. Tracer tests were conducted in eight full-scale sedimentation basins in six WTPs, and then analyzed by index and graphic analyses as well as by dispersion number. The dispersion number was more useful as an indicator of the hydrodynamic behavior in the basin. It was also found that as dispersion number decreased, flow approached the ideal for plug flow in which case, higher sedimentation efficiency could be expected.
Single-well tracer tests, especially push pull tracer tests, are more effective to estimate hydraulic parameters and microbial metabolic activities in terms of duration and cost compared to multi-well tracer tests. However, there are some drawbacks in accuracy, complicated data analysis and uniqueness. These shortages are thought to be derived from the applied conditions which affect mass recovery curve and breakthrough curve. Factors such as extraction rate, resting period, hydraulic conductivity and hydraulic gradient are considered as the major factors determining the mass recovery rate and shape of the breakthrough curve. The results of the sensitivity analysis are summarized as follows: 1) the significant change in concentration of breakthrough curve is obtained when the extraction rate increases. This effect would also be much higher if the hydraulic conductivity is lower; 2) the mass recovery rate decreases with the increase of resting time, and the difference of mass recovery rates for different resting times is inversely proportional to the hydraulic conductivity; 3) the sensitivity values decrease with time. The hydraulic conductivity affects not only the early period, but the later period of the breakthrough curves; 4) The influence of the hydraulic gradient on the breakthrough curves is greater at earlier stage than at later stage. The mass recovery rate is inversely proportional to the hydraulic gradient.
Studies were performed on evaluating the applicability of activated carbon bugs on dye tracer tests as tracer detectors by using its adsorption isotherm of the grained activated carbon. We preliminary conducted several standard adsorption and extraction tests and obtained the relationship between standard dye solution and detected concentrations from activated carbon samples in dry and wet conditions. the slopes of the regression line were 0.71 for wet condition and 0.74 for dried one. Field dye tracer tests were performed in a karst area, where several faults occur along a stream and pass the test area. We sampled water samples and activated carbon samples at three points in Hwangji Pond, where groundwater outflows from the karst conduit. According to the results of breakthrough curve analysis, the regional flow along the conduit, which is assumed to cause a karst conduit, was estimated as 0.18 m/day. The relationship between the concentrations of water sample and extracted activated carbon bugs shows the similar slopes with those from standard solution tests. This suggests that activated carbon could be useful as a dye tracer detector because the extraced concentration can be quantified.
It was clinically important to substitute the physiologic centric relation to the therapeutic position of the patients who needed the oral rehabilitation or occlusal treatment. There were several methods for recording the centric relation. One of the known methods was to use the gothic arch tracer. However the existing intraoral device was difficult to adjust the three dimensional angulation of the recording plate and recording stylus depending on the hinge movement arch of the individual. The purpose of this study was to develop new intraoral tracer which had adjustable stylus within hinge movement arch for the record of centric relation and to evaluate the clinical application of this device. The results were as follow; 1. A stylus of new developed intraoral tracer was so adjustable that the recording of mandibular positions could be reproducible within the hinge movement arc. 2. A record plate of new developed intraoral tracer was so adjustable to parallel with the occlusal plane that lateral recording of mandibular position was able to obtain stably. This study showed that new developed intraoral tracer allowed the determination of the treatment position which can be used in the full mouth rehabilitation and occlusal treatments.
Hydraulic efficiency was a vital component in evaluating the disinfection capability of clearwell. Current practice evaluates these system based on the tracer test only. In this paper, CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) was applied on the clearwell for alternating or supplementing the tracer test. The baffle factor derived from the CFD modeling closely matched the values obtained from full scale tracer testing. And, for suggesting proper numerical model in clearwell; the turbulence model, discretization scheme, convergence criteria were investigated through separate simulation runs. The model validation was conducted by comparing the simulated data with experimental data. In the turbulence model, the realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model were found to be more appropriate than RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model. The residuals of convergence criteria should be used as not $10^{-3}$ but $10^{-4}$ or $10^{-5}$. In discretization scheme, the difference of simulated values in 1st, 2nd, 3rd upwind scheme was found to be insignificant. Moreover, the result of this study suggest that CFD modeling can be a reliable alternative to tracer testing for evaluating the hydraulic efficiency.

The drag of the excess charge in an electrical double layer at the solid fluid interface due to water flow induces the streaming current, i.e., the streaming potential (SP). Here we introduce a sandbox experiment to study this hydroelectric coupling in case of a tracer test. An acrylic tank was filled up with homogeneous sand as a sand aquifer, and the upstream and downstream reservoirs were connected to the sand aquifer to control the hydraulic gradient. Under a steady-state water flow condition, a tracer test was performed in the sandbox with the help of peristaltic pump, and tracer samples were collected from the same interval of five screened wells in the sandbox. During the tracer test, SP signals resulting from the distribution of 20 nonpolarizable electrodes were measured at the top of the tank by a multichannel meter. The results showed that there were changes in the observed SP after injection of tracer, which indicated that the SP was likely to be related to the solute transport.
