In the present study, laboratory tests including the seepage-induced consolidation test, suction test, and desiccation shrinkage test are performed to investigate characteristics of the desiccation shrinkage in reclaimed hydraulic fills. Soil samples for laboratory tests are obtained from three sites (districts of Haenam, Kogeum and Koheung in Chunnam area). Desiccation shrinkage settlement caused by three dimensional volume change is numerically evaluated using finite difference technique based on the governing equation proposed by Abu-Hejleh & Znidarcic. Also characteristics of the desiccation shrinkage analyzed from the test results are used as input data for numerical evaluations. Further predicted total settlements including the self-weight consolidation settlement are compared with values measured at the site of Haenam district. Finally, effects of parameters related to the desiccation shrinkage on settlements are examined.

The plasma chemical vapor deposition is one of the most utilized techniques for the diamond growth. As the applications of diamond thin films prepared by plasma chemical vapor deposition(CVD) techniques become more demanding, improved fine-tuning and control of the process are required. The important parameters in diamond film deposition include the substrate temperature, $CH_4/H_2$ gas flow ratio, total, gas pressure, and gas excitation power. With the spectroscopic ellipsometry, the substrate temperature as well as the various parameters of the film can be determined without the physical contact and the destructiveness under the extreme environment associated with the diamond film deposition. It is introduced how the real-time spectroscopic ellipsometry is used and the data are analyzed with the view of getting the growth condition and the accompanied features for a good quality of diamond films. And it is determined the important parameters during the diamond film growth, which include the final sample will be measured with Raman spectroscopy to confirm the diamond component included in the film.
In this study, a standard consolidation test (Oedometer) was performed on the relative density of sand in the south coast to evaluate long-term creep settlement characteristics. Experimental results show that the cumulative settlement at the final loading stage decreases as the relative density increases and the variation of the void ratio decreases. As a result of analyzing the settlement rate of long-term creep of sand, creep settlement of 4.7~11.0% occurred depending on relative density with respect to total settlement. The creep parameter, Beta, of Schmertmann et al. (1978) was estimated to be 0.17~0.40 (average 0.21), and it tended to converge to a certain value when the load step becomes more than a certain level. It was found that there is no significant difference in the creep parameter depending on the layer thickness, and it was confirmed that the creep parameter could be applied regardless of the field layer thickness.
ZnO thin films were grown on a glass by RF sputtering system with RF power 100W and oxygen partial pressure of $0%{/sim}30%$. Elliptic constants were measured by using a phase modulated spectroscopic ellipsometer and analyzed with the Tauc-Lorentz dispersion formula and best fit method in the range of 1.5 to 3.8eV. Also, scanning electron microscope(SEM) was used for the analysis of surface crystallization condition. From elliptic constants spectra, optical constants, thickness and roughness of ZnO films were evaluated. Total thickness of ZnO films obtained by ellipsometry showed good agreement with SEM data. It was found that the grain size of the films were getting smaller with increasing oxygen partial pressure. Band-gap of ZnO films increase with the oxygen partial pressure. These findings clearly indicate that optical properties of ZnO films are strongly dependent on the oxygen partial pressure. It could be explained that increasing the oxygen partial pressure induced high crystalline imperfection in the ZnO films.

Objectives: To investigate the rate of postoperative urinary retention (POUR) and identify the risk factors for this complication in women who underwent transvaginal uterosacral suspension surgery. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted for 75 women who underwent transvaginal uterosacral suspension surgery with vaginal hysterectomy, repair of cystocele, and levator myorrhaphy with/without transobturator anti-incontinence surgery. POUR was defined as a need for continuous intermittent catheterization on the third day subsequent to removal of the urethral indwelling catheter. Results: Acute POUR was reported in 18 women (24.0%). Thirty-six of the 75 patients (48.0%) had undergone anti-incontinence surgery. Crude analysis revealed significant association between the following variables and the risk of POUR: hypertension, the lower average flow rate in the pressure-flow study (PFS), greater post-void residual (PVR) urine volume in PFS, and PVR >30% of the total bladder capacity (TBC) in PFS. In the logistic regression analysis, PVR >30% of the TBC in PFS was identified as the only significant predictor of POUR (odds ratio, 15.4; 95% confidence interval, 2.5-90.9; P = 0.003). Conclusions: The PVR >30% of the TBC in PFS was identified as the only predictive factor of acute POUR in women who underwent transvaginal uterosacral suspension surgery.

This study presents the visually observed behavior of fibers embedded in concrete samples that were subjected to a flexural bending test. Three types of fibers such as macro polypropylene, macro polyethylene, and the hybrid of steel and polyvinyl alcohol were mixed with cement by a designated mix ratio to prepare a total of nine specimens of each. The bending test was conducted by following ASTM C1609 with a net deflection of 2, 4, and 7 mm. The X-ray computed tomography (XCT) was carried out for 7 mm-deflection specimens. The original XCT images were post-processed to denoise the beam-hardening effect. Then, fiber, crack, and void were semi-manually segmented. The hybrid specimen showed the highest toughness compared to the other two types. Debonding based on 2D XCT sliced images was commonly observed for all three groups. The cement matrix near the crack surface often involved partially localized breakage in conjunction with debonding. The pullout was predominant for steel fibers that were partially slipped toward the crack. Crack bridging and rupture were not found presumably due to the image resolution and the level of energy dissipation for poly-fibers, while the XCT imaging was advantageous in evaluating the distribution and behavior of various fibers upon bending for fiber-reinforced concrete beam elements.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the ability to resist chloride ions penetration of the concrete structure under marine environment in south-east asia especially. In this study, high strength concrete(HSC) with various combination of ordinary portland cement(OPC), blast-furnace slag(SG) and silica fume(SF) are cured 23 and $35^{\circ}C$ considering the site weather, and are cured in water for 3, 7 or 56 days respectively. And to investigate the fundamental properties and the resistance of chloride penetration of various HSC, setting time, slump flow, compressive strength, void and ASTM C 1202 test were conducted. Test results show that the compressive strength of HSC is similar regardless of SG replacement ratio and total charge passed of chloride is the smallest at 40% replacement of SG. The compressive strength of G4FS HSC is, besides, outstandingly high at early age compare with other HSC, but the compressive strength of G4F HSC, which is vary according to curing temperature and condition, most high at the age after 7 days. Total passed charge of HSC get larger in the order G4FS
The molecular size distribution and fluorescence properties of soil fulvic acids (FA) were characterized by using gel filtration chromatography (GFC) and luminescence spectroscopy. The objectives of this work were to fractionate the FA extracted from a forest soil into different nominal molecular size using GFC system and to characterize the fluorescence properties (excitation, emission and synchronous) of these fractions using luminescence spectrometer. The GFC column was calibrated with polyethylene glycols, acetone and dextrane Blue. The total permeation volume of the GFC system was 404 mL and the void volume 130 mL. The GFC molecular weight of the soil FA was in the range of 190~8,900 Dalton and the molecular weight at the peak on the chromatogram was 930 Dalton. The fluorescence intensity ratio ($I_{498nm}/I_{390nm}$) was found to be increased with an increasing molecular weight. This results may suggest that the fulvic acid fractions with high molecular weight have large amount of the condensed aromatic compound.
Topography and soil characteristics of earth hummocks are examined in the summit crater of Mt. Halla in order to evaluate their morphoclimatic significance as an indicator of a periglacial environment. The hummocks are generally oval in outline, and they have a diameter of 42 to 200 cm and a height of 9 to 27 cm Seventeen hummocks are distributed In a 5$\times$5 m quadrat at an interval of 20 to 40 cm Excavation reveals the cryoturbated soil profiles which consist of upper dark brown layer and lower brown layer. The dark brown layer has 61.8% total clay and silt content, implying Its high frost susceptibility Earth hummocks have the dry density of 0.761 to 1.009 g/㎤ the void ratio of 1420 to 2.008, and the moisture content of 24.2 to 68.8% by weight, respectively. The hummocky soils become compacted and desiccated downward. Earth hummocks are frozen as a hard solid mass during winter and early spring, and freezing fronts reach about 45 cm below their apices. The layer with high lute content appears in the upper horizon of dark brown soil. but Ice lenses are not so much segregated The moisture content of hummocky soils generally increases up to 73.9 to 118.80% for dark brown layer and 49.9 to 82.8% for brown layer during thins period Because the cohesive soil of earth hummocks indicates 72.8% of the moisture content as a liquid limit, the dark brown layer is highly fluid and consequently subject to cryoturbation processes.
Commercial synthetic resins with great amount of hydrogen atoms were investigated for neutron shielding aggregates. Total three types of resins were considered in this study: high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), and ultra molecular weight polyethylene (UPE). When these resins replaced 20, 40, 60 vol% of fine aggregates, mechanical properties were first evaluated including compressive and tensile strengths, and then image/microstructure analyses such as cross-section analysis, SEM, and X-ray CT were performed. The results showed that the compressive and tensile strengths decreased with the increase of replacement ratio of HDPE and PP, which was found through image analysis that it was closely related to the distribution of resins at the failure surface of test specimens. The strength reduction of UPE was quite small compared to HDPE and PP but it abruptly increased when the replacement level exceeded 60 vol%. The results of microstructure analyses indicated that the replacement level significantly affected the amount of air void so that it is critical to determine the reasonable amount of UPE to make cementitous materials for neutron shielding.
