  • In this study optimal analysis of pipe network was performed using linear and non linear analysis method for complex real pipe network system of Mungyeong water purification field system which consists of 70 nodes and 86 elements. From the examination result of total flow which is distributed to each pipe, it is found that KYPIPE2 Model supplies less amount than NLAM. It is known that dynamic water level and pressure head of KYPIPE2 Model and NLAM are nearly in accordance with each other from each method of the pipe network analyses, and appeared that both methods of analysis shows high reliable result since the distribution of dynamic water level for every node is the short range of EL. 205.0m~EL. 210.0m besides the pressed dynamic water level. The analysis results of pressure in the methods of pipe network analysis for KYPIPE2 Model and NLAM are similar and it is satisfactory result that the pressure distributions of the tab water design criterion of 5.0kgf/cm$^2$ besides the small part of highland.

  • The effect of pintle shapes and position to the thrust performance of Solid Rocket Motor was studied by experimental-aided Computational Fluid Dynamic(CFD). Among the turbulent models for RANS in Fluent, Spalart-Allmaras model was better agreement with the nozzle wall pressure distribution attained by cold-flow test than other models. When nozzle throat area was decreased, magnitude of thrust was increased. The bigger pintle size was, the more thrust of pintle tip pressure was obtained. Meanwhile the more thrust of nozzle and chamber pressure decreased. Hence, total thrust of big pintle was less than a small pintle under same throat area condition.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation of the influence of the blade back sweep angle on the performance and flow characteristics in a centrifugal compressor with a vaneless diffuser. Five impellers with different back sweep angles were tested in the flow simulations. It was found that a low back sweep angle could improve the total-to-total pressure ratio and the work coefficient over whole operating ranges. However, the flow field in an impeller with a low back sweep angle produced a more non-uniform velocity distribution at the impeller exit because the wake region was significantly increased. As a consequence, the impeller with a low back sweep angle caused a low diffuser performance.

  • Combustion characteristics of full-scale gas generators were studied experimentally by changing the injector number installed at the injector head. Three full-scale gas generators were utilized; they have same total mass flow rate but mass flow rates per injector are different. Thirteen, nineteen and thirty seven injectors, which have internal-mixing and double-swirl characteristics, are distributed in injector heads, respectively. The results showed that pressure fluctuations in the gas generators with 13 and 19 injectors didn't occur around longitudinal resonant frequency, however longitudinal-mode pressure fluctuation appeared slightly in the gas generator with 37 injectors. As the number of injectors increased, deviations of temperature distribution in the combustion chamber decreased gradually, but the damage of injector LOx posts became a little severe.

  • This Paper aims at investigating the distribution of stresses and the displacement of soft foundation layer subject to embankment load by the finite elements method (FEM). The stresses include the volumetric stress, the Pore water Pressure, the vertical stress. The horizontal stress and the shear stress. The Christian-Boehmer's method was selected as technique for FEM and the general elasticity model and modified Cam-clay model as the governing equations under Plain-strain condition depending on drained and undrained conditions. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The volumetric stress is almost consistent with the pore water pressure. This means that the total stress is the same value with the pore water pressure under the undrined condition 2. The vertical stress appears in the same value regardless of the drained or undrained condition and the model of the constitutive equations. 3. The horizontal stress has almost same value with the drain condition model. 4. depending on the constitutive model. The shear stress is affected by both the drain condition and the constitute model. The resulted value by the modified Cam-clay model has the largest. 5. The direction of the displacement vector turns outward near the tip of load during the increasing load. 6. The magnitude of displacement due to the modified Cam.clay model is as twice large as that due to elastic model.

  • There are several types of compressors which are appropriate for hydrogen gas station. Diaphragm type of compressor is the one of them and it satisfies the requirements for that purpose in terms of maintaining gas purity and making high pressure over 700 bar. The objective of this study is to find an optimal design of oil distribution hole configuration. The number of holes is changed maintaining total cross-sectional area of holes. Five cases(1 hole, 4, 8,16 and 24 holes) were studied through Fluid Structure Interaction(FSI) analysis method. Gas and oil pressure, the deflection and stress of the diaphragm were analysed during compression and suction process respectively. There is no specific difference among the cases during compression. An additional deflection due to the existence of hole was found during suction for all case. But the highest deflection and stress were found in the 1 hole case. It was seen that 60% decrease of stress in magnitude in 24 hole case compare to the 1 hole case.

  • As an alternative measure to replace reactive stance with proactive one, a risk based management scheme has been commonly applied to enhance public satisfaction on water service by providing a higher creditable solution to handle a rehabilitation problem of pipe having high potential risk of leaks. This study intended to examine the feasibility of a simulation model to predict a recurrence probability of pipe leaks. As a branch of the data mining technique, probabilistic neural network (PNN) algorithm was applied to infer the extent of leaking recurrence probability of water network. PNN model could classify the leaking level of each unit segment of the pipe network. Pipe material, diameter, C value, road width, pressure, installation age as input variable and 5 classes by pipe leaking probability as output variable were built in PNN model. The study results indicated that it is important to pay higher attention to the pipe segment with the leak record. By increase the hydraulic pipe pressure to meet the required water demand from each node, simulation results indicated that about 6.9% of total number of pipe would additionally be classified into higher class of recurrence risk than present as the reference year. Consequently, it was convinced that the application of PNN model incorporated with a data base management system of pipe network to manage municipal water distribution network could make a promise to enhance the management efficiency by providing the essential knowledge for decision making rehabilitation of network.

  • In this study, we investigate the performance variations of an automotive turbocharger compressor with respect to the height variation of the recirculating casing treatment (RCT). We use three RCT heights, namely 1.2 mm, 1.5 mm, and 1.8 mm. We vary the compressor speed from 90,000 to 150,000 rpm, and the flow rate from 0.015 kg/s to 0.08 kg/s. The calculation results of the total pressure ratio and isentropic efficiency showed good agreement with the performance data provided by the manufacturer within a 0.7 percent error. The results showed that the RCT heights of 1.2 mm, 1.8 mm, and 1.5 mm, in that order, exhibited a more uniform pressure distribution, higher pressure ratio, and wider operational range. As the number of revolutions per minute increased, we obtained typical characteristics of a compressor map having a narrower operational range in the region of higher pressure ratio.

  • This study is a fundamental investigation for standardization of the heavy-weight floor impact measuring method by the impact ball. The distribution chrematistics of floor impact sound level and reverberation time in a receiving room of the testing building for floor impact sound were measured with variations of number and arrangement of the sound-absorbing materials. Total 8 cases were investigated. The distribution of the floor impact sound level($L_{i,\;Fmax}$) was measured at 30 points with same intervals. The absorption coefficient of the room is 0.10 in case of installation of 6 absorbing materials and 0.02 in case of non-installation. The distribution shape of the impact sound pressure level was similar to the result of the bang machine driving at the measured frequency range. However, the overall reduction of the impact sound level investigated in the 125 to 500 Hz shows that the sound absorption characteristics of the receiving room actually affects the result of the heavy-weight impact measurement.
