In the field of yarn dyeing, the most generally employed method is a type of package dyeing which uses a package of cheeses stacked on a spindle made of a perforated tube. In order to understand the process of level dyeing, it is essential to perform a study of the porous flow through the spindle for the cheese dyeing method. In this paper, the axisymmetric, incompressible, Navier-Stokes equations are solved for several spindle configurations using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. For investigating the flow patterns through the spindle, porous diameter and porosity is varied in the present study. The computational results show that the total pressure loss depends only on the velocity of inflow regardless of porous diameter and porosity and a large percentage of the mass flow rate through the spindle is discharged at the upside of the spindle. Therefore, it is required to design a new spindle to obtain the level dyeing.
Recently, waste concrete emission has been increased by acceleration of urban development and the rapid growth of redevelopment projects, so recycling of waste concrete is actively progressed, But the usage is limited to a lower value added such as the roadbed material etc. To produce the high quality recycled aggregate, breaking and washing process is added to the existing process and inevitably increases the occurrence of particle, because old mortal is included in the recycled aggregate. Therefore, this study purpose is analysis the properties of lightweight foamed concrete made by waste concrete sludge which is the by-product from produce the recycled aggregate. In result, possibility of manufacture of lightweight foamed concrete which gives equal performance compared with ALC was detect(scope of density : $0.5{\sim}0.6$, scope of compressive strength : $3.5{\sim}4.0MPa$). And scope of porosity is as follow ; total porosity : $27{\sim}30%$, open porosity : $1{\sim}5%$
This paper presents the effect of aggregate type on high temperature resistance of self-compacting mortars (SCM) produced with normal and lightweight aggregates like expanded perlite and pumice. Silica fume (SF) and fly ash (FA) were used as mineral additives. Totally 13 different mixtures were designed according to the aggregate rates. Mini slump flow, mini V-funnel and viscometer tests were carried out on the fresh mortar. On the other hand, bulk density, porosity, water absorption and high temperature tests were made on the hardened SCM. After being heated to temperatures of 300, 600 and $900^{\circ}C$, respectively, the tensile strength in bending and compressive strength of mortars determined. As a result of the experiments, the increase in the use of lightweight aggregate increased total water absorption and porosity of mortars. It is observed that, the increment in the usage of lightweight aggregate decreased tensile strength in bending and compressive strengths of mortar specimens exposed to high temperatures but the usage of up to 10% expanded perlite in mortar increased the compressive strength of specimens exposed to $300^{\circ}C$.

In this paper, the effect of porosity on the acoustic phase velocity of the 3D printed Kelvin closed-cell structure was investigated using the spectral phase analysis. Since Kelvin cells bring about the large amount of scattering, acoustic pulses in ultrasonic measurements undergoes a distortion of waveforms due to the dispersion effect. In order to take account on the dispersion, mathematical expressions for calculating the phase velocity of longitudinal waves propagating normal to the plane of the Kelvin structure are suggested by introducing a complex wave number based on Fourier transform. 3D Kelvin structure composed of identical unit-cells, a polyhedron of 14 faces with 6 quadrilateral and 8 hexagonal faces, was developed and fabricated by 3D CAD and 3D printer to represent the micro-structure of porous materials such as aluminum foam and cancellous bone. Total nine samples of 3D Kelvin structure with different porosity were made by changing the thickness of polyhedron. Ultrasonic pulse of 1MHz center frequency was applied to the Kelvin structures for the measurement of the phase velocity of ultrasound using the TOF(time-of-flight) and the phase spectral method. From the experimental results, it was found that the acoustic phase velocity decreased linearly with the porosity.
The study on ice thermal storage system is to improve total system performance and increase the economical efficiency in actual air-conditioning facilities. To obtain the high charging and discharging efficiencies in ice thermal storage system, the improvement of thermal stratification is essential, therefore the process flow must be piston flow in the cylindrical type. In the influence of the inlet port type, the inflowing water in the distributor type diffuses through the whole storage tank more than in the slot type. In case of the flow process in the ice storage tank, the upward flow type in the charging process and the downward flow type in the discharging process make the stratification well, thereby the loss of energy wored be smaller. The influence of the inlet temperature difference and the change of the inlet flow rate is intensive when the temperature difference is larger, the flow rate is smaller in case of charging and the results are opposite in case of discharging with the reason that the good coduction condition. The total effeciency of the ice thermal storge system is 73% on condition that the porosity in the thermal storage tank is 0.55. This result shows that cylinderical ice storage tank has better storage capacity than rectangular type in case of the same porosity.
Al and Zn are used to protect the steel structures from corrosion. In the present studies, 15Al-85Zn alloy wires has been used for the deposition of coating by arc thermal spray process. Moreover, this process of coating exhibited severe defects formation, therefore, this coating was post-treated with different concentrations i.e. 0.05, 0.1 and 0.5M sodium hexa meta phosphate (Na6[(PO3)6]: SHMP) to fill to defects of deposited coatings and assessed their corrosion resistance in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution with exposure periods. After the treatment, the porosity of the coating reduced significantly by formation of composite oxide films onto the coating surface. Initially, 0.5 M SHMP treated coating exhibited highest in total impedance due to significant reduction of porosity but once the exposure periods are extended, the composite oxides are dissolved, thus, total impedance is decreased.
We have conducted the study about the shelter effect against the wind by using the wind fence with various porosities and the measured distance from the wind fence, in three different types of it ; (Circle wind fence, Vertical wind fence, Horizontal wind fence) The shelter effect and turbulence characteristics of the selected wind barrier is throughly investigated by wind tunnel test. flow characteristics of velocities and turbulences behind wind fence were measured using hot-wire anemometer. we characterize the turbulence behind the wind fence by varying the porosity of 0 %, 20 %, 40%, and 60%, and the distances from the wind fence from 1 H to 9 H with maintaining the uniform flow velocity of 6 m/s. In addition, we investigated the overall characterization of the wind fence by measuring total of twenty eight points on the wind fence, which forms the lattice structure on it with seven points in lateral direction and four points in vertical direction. The results of analysis from the circle wind fence indicate that the degree of the turbulence is lowered and the velocity of the wind is decreased when the porosity of 40 % are used at the distance from 3 H to 9 H. On the other hand, the vertical, horizontal wind fence with the porosity of 20% is more advantageous at the distance of 2 H to 9 H. For the effectiveness of the wind fence depending on the position, the center part is the greatest and it decreases at the edges with 10 % to 30 % less than that of at the center.
Statement of problem. Titanium-Nickel alloy might be used in various prosthetic restorations since it has a unique property such as super-elasticity and high fatigue resistance. However, little is known about the casting ability of this alloy. Purpose. This in vitro study compared the casting accuracy and the porosity made with different investments and various sprue designs to ascertain what casting condition would be better for the fabrication of Ti-Ni cast restorations. Material and methods. A total of 70 Ti-Ni alloy crowns were made and divided into 7 groups of 10 copings on a metal master die. For measuring the effect of the sprue numbers, two groups with one and two 8-gauge sprues were compared. Moreover, the results of the conventional sprue and the double thickness sprues were compared. Three investments were used; carbon free phosphate bonded investment, titanium investment and gypsum bonded investment. The cast restorations were evaluated at 48 points on the entire circumferential margin with a stereomicroscope measuring in micrometers. Each crown was radiographically examined for casting defects and porosity. Data on casting accuracy were analyzed using two-way and Post hoc Scheffe's comparison to determine whether significant differences existed at the 95% confidence level. Student-Newman-Keuls test were performed to identify significant differences in the number of voids. Results. The double sprueing group and double thickness group had significantly less marginal discrepancy than the single sprueing group (P<.05 and P<.01, respectively). The castings with phosphate bonded investment showed the least marginal discrepancy and the smoothest surface. The castings invested in the gypsum bonded investment had the greatest gaps in margin and the largest failure rate. The double sprueing group and phosphate bonded investment group had significantly smaller void numbers and smaller void size than the other groups. Conclusion. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, the casting accuracy of the groups using thicker, double sprue design and the phosphate bonded investment was significantly superior. Moreover, void number and size were less than other groups.
By introducing the concept of overpressurization of rim pores due to dislocation punching, the total pressure exerted on the rim pores is estimated. Then this concept is combined with the assumption that all the fission gases produced in the rim region are retained in the rim region to calculate the rim porosity. Rim porosities calculated in this way are compared with measured data, which produces reasonable agreement. Finally a correlation for the thermal conductivity of the rim region is obtained using the hypothesis that the rim region consists of pores and fully dense material of UO$_2$.
