As the structure is taller and its member is larger, the effect of the deformation of Panel zone on the displacement of structure becomes larger. The analysis using the centerline dimensions in the steel moment frame structure can not consider the accurate effect of panel ton And the finite element analysis using infinitesimal solid and shell element is impractical for the total tall building structure. Therefore, this paper proposes the analytical model using linear element in order to be able to evaluate the reasonable deformation of panel zone. the proposed analytical model makes the analysis of the building structure simple and ease because it uses the only linear elements. In addition it can easily incorporate the various parameters affecting the deformation of panel zone. In order to prove the validith of the prosed analytical model, the analysis result using the proposed analytical model is compared with the result using finite element analysis with shell element
In order to analyze the tensile deformation characteristics of laser welded tailored blanks. laser welded blanks of different thikness and strength combinations were prepared and tensile tests were done. The tensile elongation along the direction perpendicular to weld line of laser welded blanks was reduced as increasing the deformation restraining force (strength X thicknes) ratio between two welded sheets and fracture occurred at weaker side of base sheets if void ration of welded sheets and fracture occurred at weaker side of base sheets if void ratio of weld section was less than 45% The tensile elongation along weld line reached above 90% of the elongation of base material if welding was done perfectly. Total elongation along the direction perpendicular to weld line was able to be predicted by force equilibrium and power law behavior of base sheets and it was related with the deformation of stronger sheet and formability of weaker side.
Cold forging has several advantages as compared with conventional forming by cutting process. In this study, the elastic deformations of straight bevel gear and die induced by cold forging process are investigated to use 3D-Scanner. So we could estimate the total elastic deformation as comparing between forged bevel gears and die. And finite element analysis has been performed to predict the elastic deformation, each of cold forged bevel gear and die. The predicted values are compared with the experimental values and as a result they are well agreed with experimental data.
The problem of cylindrical cavity expansion incorporating deformation dependent of intermediate principal stress in rock or soil mass is investigated in the paper. Assumptions that the initial axial total strain is a non-zero constant and the axial plastic strain is not zero are defined to obtain the numerical solution of strain which incorporates deformation-dependent intermediate principal stress. The numerical solution of plastic strains are achieved by the 3-D plastic potential functions based on the M-C and generalized H-B failure criteria, respectively. The intermediate principal stress is derived with the Hook's law and plastic strains. Solution of limited expansion pressure, stress and strain during cylindrical cavity expanding are given and the corresponding calculation approaches are also presented, which the axial stress and strain are incorporated. Validation of the proposed approach is conducted by the published results.
This paper presents a new model on deformation characteristics of cylindrical tubes under pure bending. The model is based on the upper bound method that minimizes total strain energy of a system. It does not assume inextensibility condition. Geometric relations and displacement fields are derived by analysis of deformation behaviors of elastic tubes. Simulations are calculated using numerical optimization and integration techniques. The results give information about cross-sectional deformation of cylindrical tubes. Simulation results are compared with available data in literatures, which show that this method predicts deformation characteristics of tube bending process.
In this study, the safest model can be selected by the simulation result of structural safety analysis according to the shape of impact bar affected at side door of automobile. The open sectional model of semicircle type has the lowest deformation and stress among 4 kinds of models. As the weight of this model has 30% in comparison with other models, it becomes most economical and stable. As the open sectional model of cap type the highest deformation and stress among 4 kinds of models, it becomes weakest. The closed models with circular and rectangular types has the stress far lower than cap type. The maximum deformation is shown at the center part of impact bar but the maximum stress occurs at the joint part between impact bar and frame.

The design dimension may not be satisfactory at the final stage due to the welding during the assembly stage, leading to cutting or adding the components in large structure constructions. The productivity is depend on accuracy of the welding quality especially at assembly stage. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to decide the component dimension during each assembly stage considering the above situations during the designing stage by exactly predicting welding deformation before the welding is done. Further, if the system that predicts whether welding deformation is equipped, it is possible to take measures to reduce deformation through FE analysis, helping in saving time for correcting work by arresting the parts which are prone to having welding deformation. For the FE analysis to predict the deformation of a large steel structure, calculation time, modeling, constraints in each assembly stage and critical welding length have to be considered. In case of fillet welding deformation, around 300 mm is sufficient as a critical welding length of the specimen as proposed by the existing researches. However, the critical length in case of butt welding is around 1000 mm, which is far longer than that suggested in the existing researches. For the external constraint, which occurs as the geometry of structure is changed according to the assembly stage, constraint factor is drawn from the elastic FE analysis and test results, and the magnitude of equivalent force according to constraint is decided. The comparison study for the elastic FE analysis result and measurement for the large steel structure based on the above results reveals that the analysis results are in the range of 80-118% against measurement values, both matching each other well. Further, the deformation of fillet welding in the main plate among the total block occupies 66-89%, making welding deformation in the main plate far larger than the welding deformation in the longitudinal and transverse girders.
Because of the increasing need to use clayey soil as the backfill in reinforced soil structures and embankment material, nonwoven geotextiles with the drain capability have been receiving much attention. However, there are few studies of the deformation behavior of nonwoven geotextiles at geosynthetics reinforced soil structures in the field because the nonwoven geotextile, which has low tensile stiffness and higher deformability than geogrids and woven geotextiles, is difficult to measure its deformation by strain gauges and to prevent the water from infiltrating. This study proposes a new, more convenient method to measure the deformation behaviour of nonwoven geotextile by using a strain gauge; and examines the availability of the method by conducting laboratory tests and by applying it on two geosynthetics reinforced soil (GRS) walls in the field. A wide-width tensile test conducted under confining pressure of 7kPa showed that the local deformation of nonwoven geotextile measured with strain gauges has a similar pattern to the total deformation measured with LVDT. In the field GRS walls, nonwoven geotextile showed a larger deformation range than the woven geotextile and geogrid; however, the deformation patterns of these three reinforcement materials were similar. The function of strain gauges attached to nonwoven geotextile in the walls works normally for 16 months. Therefore, the method proposed in this study for measuring nonwoven geotextile deformation by using a strain gauge proved useful.
Deformation characteristics of miniature plate tensile specimens have been studied to develop the thickness requirement and a correlation to estimate the mechanical properties of bulk material from miniature specimen data. The material used was a SA 508 C1.3 reactor pressure vessel steel and the thicknesses of miniature tensile specimens varied from ().12 m to 2 mm. The effects of thickness on the tensile deformation properties such as strength, ductility, and necking characteristics were analyzed. The yield and ultimate tensile strengths were independent of specimen thickness when the thickness was larger than about 0.2 mm. The uniform and total elongations decreased as the specimen thickness decreased. It was also observed that the uniform strain component in the width direction decreased with decrease in the specimen thickness, however, that in the thickness direction was rather constant in total thickness range studied. Based on this observation and a relationship between the necking angle and the ratio between strain components, a correlation between the uniform elongations of miniature specimen and standard specimen was derived. The uniform elongations calculated by this new correlation agreed well with the measured values.
