Effect of interval exercise versus continuous exercise on excess post-exercise oxygen consumption during energy-homogenized exercise on a cycle ergometer

  • [Purpose] The purpose of this study was to confirm that the difference in excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) during exercise of the spending the same calories between the continuous and interval exercise. [Methods] Thirty-four healthy college students who did not regularly exercise volunteered to participate in our study. Continuous exercise was performed on an ergometer for 30 min at 60% of maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). Interval exercise was performed on a cycle ergometer at 80% VO2 max for 2 min initially, followed by 40% VO2 max for 1 min, and 80% VO2 max for 3 min. This was repeated six times for a total of 26 min. [Results] The major findings were as follows: (1) energy consumption during exercise was not significantly different between continuous exercise and interval exercise groups; (2) EPOC was higher in interval exercise than in continuous exercise for all dependent variables (i.e., total oxygen consumption, total calories, summation of heart rate); and (3) there were no significant differences in the lipid profile between continuous and interval groups. [Conclusions] Our study confirmed that after equalizing energy expenditure for continuous and interval exercise on a cycle ergometer in subjects in their twenties, interval exercise results in higher EPOC than continuous exercise. These data suggest that interval exercise may be more effective than continuous exercise in reducing body fat, for a given amount of energy expenditure.

농촌주택에 적합한 제로에너지 하우스의 프로토타입 연구 (The Study on the Zero-Energy House Prototype of Country House)

  • Due to the building energy consumption of total energy consumption of Korea takes over 24%, economizing building energy and using renewable energy resources is being required. To suggest the prototype of zero energy house of country house, the passive systems and active systems are applicated and simulated. In case of wall insulation system is applicated, the heating load of building is reduced. Also, clear triple pair glazing system reduced 2.1% of heating load of building. The amount of reducing heating load by infiltration is depending on the Heating system. In this model, the 0.3ACH made 14.6% saving on heating load from base infiltration 0.82ACH. The solar thermal system of active system could save 80% of DHW and PV system supplies electric power more than average consumption of year. Through the optimum process, the end use of zero energy house of country house is 36kWh/m2.yr and total energy consumption is reduced about 74.2%.

BFS 알고리즘을 적용한 독립형 가로등 LED 사용시간 연장 알고리즘 연구 (A study on the algorithm for extending the usage time of a stand-alone street light LED using the BFS algorithm)

  • In this paper, to expand the use of standalone street lights, an algorithm for controlling LED energy consumption was proposed. The proposed method uses an LED module of a standalone street light divided into n zones. This is a method of reducing total power consumption by preventing the increase in power consumption due to high heat generation by weakly operating the entire LED according to the illuminance. When the amount of sunlight decreases, the whole LED operates weakly and then brightens, and unlike streetlight that act as streetlight, a method of dividing LEDs by area and limiting the number of LEDs operating according to illumination intensity was proposed. This is a way to use a lot of time with limited battery capacity by reducing the generation of heat that consumes the most power in streetlight. It is also a method of continuously changing the initial usage area to improve the total usage time of the LED substrate. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the proposed method extends the service time because it generates less heat than the conventional stand-alone streetlight.

Feed Consumption Pattern of Laying Hens in Relation to Time of Oviposition

  • A total of sixty 67 week-old Manina White strain laying hens were individually housed in cages to investigate feed consumption pattern during the day in relation to time of oviposition. Hourly feed intake and time of oviposition were recorded for each bird for seven days. Mean hourly feed intake of all hens showed a smaller peak at 10:00-12:00 and a larger peak at 17:00-19:00. There were no significant differences in amount of daily feed consumption and hourly eating pattern between egg-laying days and non-laying days. However, hens consumed about 10 g more feed (p<0.01) on egg-forming days (the day before oviposition) than on non-eggforming days. Hourly feed intake decreased prior to oviposition, but increased immediately during the time of oviposition. The peak consumption during the evening hours (17:00-19:00) was consistent regardless of the time of oviposition.

  • In recent years, many wearable devices and mobile apps related to life care have been developed, and a service for measuring the movement during walking and showing the amount of exercise has been provided. However, they do not measure walking in detail, so there may be errors in the total calorie consumption. If the user's behavior is measured by a multi-axis sensor and learned by a machine learning algorithm to recognize the kind of behavior, the detailed operation of walking can be autonomously distinguished and the total calorie consumption can be calculated more than the conventional method. In order to verify this, we measured activities and created a model using a machine learning algorithm. As a result of the comparison experiment, it was confirmed that the average accuracy was 12.5% or more higher than that of the conventional method. Also, in the measurement of the momentum, the calorie consumption accuracy is more than 49.53% than that of the conventional method. If the activity recognition is performed using the wearable device and the machine learning algorithm, the accuracy can be improved and the energy consumption calculation accuracy can be improved.

  • The power consumption pattern of high-speed railway has rarely during night time. But, during service time, the power is consumed irregularly related to train operation. Especially certain unusual about 1-2 days of service time interval to indicate the power consumption is rapidly growing phenomenon, which causes the capacity of the power contract is the annual electricity bill to rise rapidly as the cause. Normally, amount of peak power consumption bill rate at railway substation is over 20% of total electrical bill. Therefore, high-speed railway substation is expected to be considerably larger savings by reducing the peak power of the default charge(demand power).

동적열해석프로그램을 이용한 대형할인매장의 에너지 소비 특성 분석 (The Energy Performance Analysis of Large Scale Store Using Dynamic Thermal Analysis Simulation Program)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the situation of energy consumption and its characteristics in large scale store. The related survey is carried out in large scale store to investigate the energy consumption and energy use trend of heating, cooling, hot water, lighting, ventilation, equipments and others. The area of large scale discount store is about $65000m^2$, located in Daejeon. For Annual Energy Analysis of building, We surveyed used energy for 1 year and simulated using a building energy simulation(TRNSYS 16). The results of this study are as follows. 1)The amount of annual total energy consumption are 18615.244MWh/yr(286.4KWh/$m^2yr$), The rate of heating, cooling and base energy(for hot water, lighting, ventilation, equipments, cooking and others) is 3054MWh/yr(47kWh/$m^2yr$), 5660.09MWh/yr(87.08kWh/$m^2yr$), 9900.47MWh/yr(152.31KWh/$m^2yr$) respectively. The total used energy is higher than others building in Korea. Especially, The energy consumption of large scale store is very depends on operating period and pattern such as space temperature, occupancy, lighting system, equipments operating schedule and etc.

방향성 섬유제품의 소비현황 및 소비자 특성에 따른 차이 연구 (Research on Consumption Status and Differences by Consumer Characteristics about ScentedTextile Products)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore consumption status of scented textile products and to determine differences in consumption behaviors of scented textile products among subject groups separated by demographic (sex, age) and lifestyle (health concern, fashion involvement, innovativenss) characteristics. A total of 530 consumers who had used scented textile products participated in the web survey for the study. Consumer data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, chi-square test, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and LSD test. In the results, the most often used products were small commodities, socks, bedding, and underwear of hub and flower scents. Consumers considered a product test as the most crucial information source and scent as the most significant decision making factor for purchase. Demographic and lifestyle group differences were found in some of the product types in use as well as in purchase behaviors (total spending amount, purchase venue, information source, considering factors when purchasing). The applicability of the study result to the theory of innovation adoption was discussed. Marketing implications were suggested based on the study results.

전남지역 일부 청소년들의 음료 섭취 실태 및 기호도에 관한연구 (The Study on Korean Youth's Status of Beverage Consumption and Preference of beverage in Chunnam Area)

  • This study was undertaken to investgate status of veverage consumption and preference of beverage among growning generation in order to provide basic knowledge for nutrition education to be able to settle right food habit of Korean youth. Four hundred and sixty middle and high school students in Chunnam area were asked to fill out the questionaries. The results were summarized as follows : The subjects usually drank total 671.6ml/day, water 304.1ml soft drink 156.9 ml milk 110.5 ml, fruit juice 36.2 ml. vegetable juice 15.5ml coffee & tea 32.9 ml and Korean tea 26.5 ml The male drank 685.5 ml and the female drank 654.9 ml. The average amount of beverage consumption per a unit weight was total 28.5 ml and middle shool students drank more than high school students but it was about the same between the male and female. The students who have snacks very often drank more than those who sometimes have. The students who like a meat-diet drank much more than those who like a vegetable or mixed-diet, And the students who eat bread often drank more than those who have rice every mealtime. The preferences of beverage were high in orange juice water milk, lactobacillus, sikhea, while some Koran and alcohoic beverage were less preferred.

  • Our country is aiming at 30% reductions in building energy consumption accounting for 39% of the total energy consumption by 2020[1]. For this purpose, the government is developing and applying the Building Energy Management System (hereinafter, referred to as "BEMS", Smart plug, etc.) while the researches on new renewable energy development. BEMS, which is applied with focus on large buildings, is inducing energy management of the entire building through energy measurement and data management, but considering its economic efficiency, it's very difficult to apply BEMS to small & medium-size buildings. Hereupon, this study intends to implement the case analysis of deterioration and economic efficiency of major equipment in buildings on the basis of electricity consumption which has been measured targeting small & medium-size buildings for a certain period by taking into account that equipment deterioration is a contributor to the increase in energy consumption.
