  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the magnitude of mandibular rotational torque movements in subjects with TMJ sounds, and to analyse correlation between quantitative characteristics of TMJ sounds and mandibular rotational torque movement. Twenty dental college students with TMJ clicking and twenty students without any TMD signs and symptoms were examined by mean of SonoPak and Rotate program of BioPAK system(Bioresearch Inc. MilWaukee, wisconsin, USA) in this study. Mandibular rotational torque movements were recorded and analysed during maximum mouth opening, protrusion, and lateral excursion in frontal and horizontal planes. The obtained results were as follows: 1. On maximum mouth opening, mandibular rotational angle and distance of clicking group were significantly greater than those of control group in frontal plane. (P<0.05). 2. During maximum mouth opening closing, maximum mandibular rotational angle and distance of clicking group were significantly greater than those of control group in frontal plane. (P<0.01). 3. On protrusion, mandibular rotational angle and distance of clickin group were significantly greater than those of control group in horizontal plane. (P<0.05). 4. On lateral excursion, there was no significant difference in mandibular rotational angle and distance between clicking group and control group in frontal and horizontal planes. 5. There were significant correlations between peak amplitude of TMJ sounds and maximum mandibular rotational distance during maximum mouth opening (r=-.481) and mandibular rotational distance on maximum mouth opening (r=-.455) in horizontal plane. 6. There were significant correlations between Above 300/(0-300)Hz ratio of TMJ sounds and mandibular rotational angle (r=-.499) and distance (r=-.457) on maximum mouth opening in frontal plane.

  • This paper presents high speed position controller using stepping motor. The proposed position controller has close loop and open loop mode. In the high speed region, torque angle which is controlled by PI controller and memory based look-up table, is used to keep the reference position. The memory based look-up table produces a torque angle according to motor speed, and the PI controller can compensate the torque angle error. So, the fast dynamic response can be expected in the same position error. The open loop control mode which is divided by 3-modes control the actual position in the low speed and small position error. Each open loop modes are designed to reduce position error and dynamic brake in the stop command. The proposed position control scheme is verified by the practical stepping motor.

  • As the importance of transmission efficiency to reducing fuel consumption and conserving the environment rapidly increases, reducing the drag torque in an automotive wet clutch is emerging as an important issue in the automotive industry. The drag torque in a clutch occurs from viscous drag generated by automatic transmission fluid in the narrow gap between separate friction plates. In this study, the drag torques in an automotive wet clutch are investigated with respect to the angle and density of the grooves between separate friction plates by three-dimensional finite element simulation of a single set of wet clutch disks considering the two-phase flow of air and oil. The simulation results shows that the drag torque generally increases with the rotational speed to a critical point and then decreases at the high-speed regime. The grooves between the plates plays an important role in reducing the drag peak, and the inclined angle of the grooves affects the oil flow. The grooves with an angle of $50^{\circ}$ shows the lowest drag torques at both low and high speeds. The flow vectors inside the $50^{\circ}$ grooves shows clear evidence that the fluid flows out more easily from the grooves compared with the flow vectors inside grooves with lower angles. The simulation results shows that increasing the number of grooves (density of grooves) decreases the drag torque.

  • In indirect vector control, if the value or the rotor tine constant used in slip calculation is different from the actual rotor time constant because of the temperature rising and flux saturation level, model flux angle and actual flux angle is different so that the transient and steady state response is degraded. In this paper, flux deviation angle is calculated by using actual torque and reference torque, and this flux deviation angle is summed to slip angle, therefore rotor flux angle is always accurate and indirect vector control is satisfied.

  • In this paper, we design the microcontroller-based optimal lead angle control system on the basis of the presented maximum average torque formula of the permanent-type stepping motor with respect to the inductance. We confirm that optimal lead angle enlarges the operating range twice as much and increases the torque over all of the operating range in the case of presented formula as well as experimental results.

  • Objective: To determine the unique contribution of geometrical design characteristics of orthodontic mini-implants on maximum insertion torque while controlling for the influence of cortical bone thickness. Methods: Total number of 100 cylindrical orthodontic mini-implants was used. Geometrical design characteristics of ten specimens of ten types of cylindrical self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants (Ortho Easy$^{(R)}$, Aarhus, and Dual Top$^{TM}$) with diameters ranging from 1.4 to 2.0 mm and lengths of 6 and 8 mm were measured. Maximum insertion torque was recorded during manual insertion of mini-implants into bone samples. Cortical bone thickness was measured. Retrieved data were analyzed in a multiple regression model. Results: Significant predictors for higher maximum insertion torque included larger outer diameter of implant, higher lead angle of thread, and thicker cortical bone, and their unique contribution to maximum insertion torque was 12.3%, 10.7%, and 24.7%, respectively. Conclusions: The maximum insertion torque values are best controlled by choosing an implant diameter and lead angle according to the assessed thickness of cortical bone.

  • Since the stator winding of High-Speed Permanent Magnet Generator (HSPMG) has few winding turns and low inductance value, it is more prone to be influenced by harmonic current. Moreover, the operation efficiency and the torque stability of HSPMG will be greatly influenced by harmonic current. Taking a 117 kW, 60 000 rpm HSPMG as an example, in order to analyze the effects of harmonic current on HSPMG in this paper, the 2-D finite element electromagnetic field model of the generator was established and the correctness of the model was verified by testing the generator prototype. Based on the model, the losses and torque of the generator under different frequency harmonic current were studied. The change rules of the losses and torque were found out. Based on the analysis of the influence of the harmonic phase angle on torque ripple, it is found that the torque ripple could be weakened through changing the harmonic phase angle. Through the analysis of eddy current density in rotor, the change mechanism of the rotor eddy current loss was revealed. These conclusions can contribute to reduce harmonic loss, prevent demagnetization fault and optimize torque ripple of HSPMG used in distributed power supply system.

  • The control of the SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is usually based on the non-linear inductance profiles with positions. So determination of optimal switching angle is very different. This paper proposed that the determination method of turn-on/off angle in the SRM drives is to maintain the high torque, which is realized by using self-tuning control method. During the sampling time, a number of pulses from the encoder are checked by using micro-controller. And compared with pre-checked a number of pulses. After calculating difference between two data, turn-on/off angle moves forward or backward direction by using self-tuning method. The optimal turn-on/off angle is determined by iterating such a process and the maximum torque is maintained. Experimental results are provided to demonstrate the validity of the self-tuning controller.

  • This paper presents a simple torque estimation method and switching angle control of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) using Neural Network (NN). SRM has gaining much interest as industrial applications due to the simple structure and high efficiency. Adaptive switching angle control is essential for the optimal driving of SRM because of the driving characteristic varies with the load and speed. The proper switching angle which can increase the efficiency was investigated in this paper. NN was adapted to regulate the switching angle and nonlinear inductance modelling. Experimental result shows the validity of the switching angle controller.
